In the latest move in the never-ending Minnesota Senate race, Norm Coleman's legal team today announced it would be filing a notice of appeal with the Minnesota Supreme Court. Coleman lawyer Jim Langdon said it could take anywhere from "two weeks to two months" for the court to begin hearing oral arguments. Langdon and fellow Coleman attorney Ben Ginsberg wouldn't say whether they would take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court if the Minnesota court ruled against Coleman.

While their legal reasoning behind the appeal was similar to their arguments in front of the three-judge panel - which ruled that Al Franken had won the most votes - Coleman's attorneys said they hoped the state Supreme Court will look at constitutional issues regarding the recount. They believed the lower courts might have felt "constrained" by prior Minnesota Supreme Court recount rulings, and that the court can set aside these rulings aside and look at the recount's equal-protection and due-process violations.

"Today, 4,400 Minnesotans have not had their voices heard or their votes counted," Coleman said in a statement released by his campaign. "The Minnesota Supreme Court is the right place for these issues to be heard, reviewed, and decided."

In a conference call responding to Coleman's appeal, Franken attorney Marc Elias said that Coleman's arguments are the "same old, same old" that the three-judge panel and Minnesota Canvassing Board rejected earlier. "Sometimes you come up on the short end of a close and bitter election," he said. "But at some point, you have to accept the reality for what it is" - that Franken won the election.

Elias added that Franken's legal team would file a motion with the state Supreme Court to expedite the proceedings.

Sen. Bob Menendez, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, released this statement: "It is sad, but not surprising, that Norm Coleman would continue to drag this process out any longer. While it is certainly within his right to appeal, given all of the challenges facing this country right now, we'd hope that he would put the interest of Minnesotans above his own and allow all of us to move on."

Coleman's continued appeals

Coleman's continued appeals have little or nothing to do with turning a lost election around. It is clearly yet another Repugnican political warfare tactic to prevent the Democrats from adding to their majority.

The sooner these ridiculous

The sooner these ridiculous Republicans are eradicated completely, the better. They argue for torture, they have mainstream media accepting that arguing for torture is somehow a partisan opinion. The sooner there are no more of these pure obstructuionists and anti-odernists, these backwards thinkers and profiteers, the better. Coleman is such a loser, how did anyone vote for this pointless pile of rubbish?

Can anyone recall all the

Can anyone recall all the flack that Gore got for the attempt to have a recount of the Florida 2000 vote where exit polls showed him to be the clear winner in spite of the election fraud of State Secretary Harris and Governor Bush, George's brother? The Supreme Court with Scalia and O'Connor at the helm handed the Presidency to the guy they liked, ignoring the US Constitution. Now we have had two complete recounts and the Republicans have delayed the rights of the citizens of Minnesota to have their lawfully elected representative actually enter office. It is really impossible to top the Republican Party members for shear unadulterated hypocrisy and a complete lack of honor or integrity at any level in this country's political and governmental processes. If only they had the Christian spirit that one might expect to be the result of their pseudo-christian evangelical beliefs. But these are the type of people that would have been cheering on the Romans while they crucified Jesus and making money afterward selling souvenirs - much as they do today with their support the troops stickers on their gas guzzling SUV's and the American flag label pins on their pin stripe suits.

Disgusting stalling tactics.

Disgusting stalling tactics.

Coleman must be trying to

Coleman must be trying to run out the calendar until the 2010 election. The facts and trends of the successive recounts and the judicial ruling have had no effect on his sulk and tantrum. Of course, the MN governor is in cahoots, refusing to certify Franken as the senator. The Gaga Old Party is certifiably insane.

The Republican Party has

The Republican Party has shown itself to be nothing more than an Obstructionist Party..they should change their name. Coleman lost..and he knows it. So he really must be getting his Orders from up the food chain to 'hang in there' and keep the Democrats from adding to their majority. Do they really think that all this is adding to their Appeal. In 2010, they will lose even more seats in the House and the Senate..mark my words. The American people are waking up to the tawdry shenanigans of the Republicans. Coleman should show some regard to his fellow Minnesotans and get Lost.

Maybe Al Franken should sue

Maybe Al Franken should sue Coleman for filing a frivolous, meritless lawsuit. It would be nice if the Minnesota Supreme Court were to recognize Coleman's endless stalling for what it is and give him the sharp smackdown he deserves. Punitive damages?

WOW! Talk about a sore

WOW! Talk about a sore loser... this guy takes the cake.

Coleman's tacky sore loser

Coleman's tacky sore loser behavior is just one more indication that the REPUGNICANS have lost whatever shred of honor and decency they MAY have clung to with their obstructionist claws in the past. They clearly have no sense of shame. Time to sue for damages ... and remind everyone in the next election of their ugly, pitiful tactics.
