The House's two most conservative caucuses, the Blue Dogs and New Democrats, are banding together to come up with shared principles on healthcare and counter a process many see skewing to the left.

The two groups, which combined have 131 members - more than half the House Democratic Caucus - have been holding meetings to see where they can agree on a healthcare plan.

"We're looking at things like what the structure of a public plan would look like," said Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.).

Democratic leaders have taken note. Kind said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called a meeting with New Democrats and Blue Dogs in her office Wednesday to discuss healthcare. The results of that meeting were not known at press time.

There is concern among centrists in the caucus that the draft bill, to be released Friday, will reflect some of the more liberal ideas in the caucus, although leadership has already rejected the idea of a single-payer system. It is being put together by the House Education and Labor, Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees.

"You have a bunch of crazy liberal chairs and their crazy liberal staffers, and they want to lay down a marker," said a senior Democratic aide.

The two caucuses have already put out separate written principles on healthcare that are similar, expressing reservations about a public option and opposing a "Medicare-like" system.

Where they differ is on the Blue Dogs' demand that the public option should be a last resort, kicking in only if reforms fail to achieve cost savings and there isn't enough competition. New Democrats have made no such request.

"Their principles mirror ours, except for the trigger," said an aide to a Blue Dog member active in the health debate.

Both groups say they're concerned about a public plan, and specifically don't want it to look like Medicare, which is exactly what the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus are pushing for.

Both sets of principles are geared toward making sure any public plan won't gain a competitive advantage over private insurance plans.

The 69-member Progressive Caucus threatened that its members will vote against healthcare legislation if it doesn't have a "robust public plan."

another scripted performance

another scripted performance by the corporate bagboys in DC for we the sheeple, right down to the media promo presentation in the article headline and content wordage: 'centrist...crazy liberals...progressive...black....medicare...trigger..' etc etc..then we have this very imformative piece of drivel: "We're looking at things like what the structure of a public plan would look like," said Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.). wow; very informative huh? americans are idiots, with a fundamental selfish ignorance brought about by, and successfully maintaining what amounts to, the poisoning of their own water supply. not only that but they will actually argue and fight within their ignorance to have that very right to poison it. any real enlightened human society would not allow $$$ to be made from other people's misfortune, sickness, suffering and death. stop this insane corruption of simple human dignity. single payer now.

Why don't you name names?

Why don't you name names? I'd like to know where my representatives stand.

This article is a "smoking

This article is a "smoking gun" for a perversion of journalism that has been going on since the term "centrist Democrat" started to be bandied around. The title and lead (as appearing on Truthout.org) are as follows and I quote (** added by me for emphasis): "**Centrist Democrats** Make Voices Heard on Health Care. ** The House's two most conservative caucuses, the Blue Dogs and New Democrats, ** are banding together to come up with shared principles on healthcare " Okay so that's a journalistic "smoking gun" The article admits that "centrist Democrat" is orwellian newspeak for "right-wing Democrat"

juliet...but thats just the

juliet...but thats just the thing:YOU need to know who your reps are yourself and what they are enabling in your name. and then if you don't like what they're doing you need to let them know. and if they still don't satisfy, vote them out.

Just like big oil,

Just like big oil, electricity and banks the insurance sector's profit are carefully safeguarded by our Congress who will NOT (any time soon) do any less than insure that such profits will continue to flow aplenty, and without disruption. This will be another blank, like the Credit Card Billof "Rights" that Obama passed (a sad joke at the expense of hard working families, here in the US). But, it is amazing to see people talking about how this "socialized medicine" plan will portion out services and will cut people out who are in need. Why, isn't that what insurance companies are doing as we speak? They actually pay 'specialists' whose sole responsibility is to deny services to those in need. The more they deny the higher their bonuses will be. Ins. Co. also have another department whose sole job is to find a reason, ANY reason, to take the money back AFTER they have authorized a procedure. So, you'll have your treatment done thinking you are covered and then, BAM! They either deny payment or demand the money back from the doctor who will then, promptly call a bill collector against you, the patient. That's so "compassionate" AND oh-so "conservative". Let us keep the people sick, that should bring the economy to a full and prompt recovery (no pun intended). Until We, The People, gain control of OUR Congress nothing will change. And that is a fact. But, the longer we wait, the weaker and sicker we will be. People in financial, mental and physical stress can't pay attention to, much less counteract, the action of our Congress and that's how they get away with it. "All that have hears, let them hear"

It probably won't do any

It probably won't do any good, but I've registered my complaint with my Rep & Senators. Maybe we need rioting in the streets like in Iran, only more so. I totally agree w/ Anonymous @ 16:32. This corporate-driven BS is just too much! And these whores need to be ousted totally from the Congress and exiled to some desert island where they'll never be able to get off! "Blue Dogs", DLC "New Democrats" are nothing but fascist corporate shills, exactly like the current crop of Republicans -- they are neither "centrist" nor conservative, they're just plain old cheap whores, and don't even provide decent sex for their pay!!!

Why wouldn't they want it to

Why wouldn't they want it to look like a program that works? Probably because it would siphon money away from their insurance company contributors. Otherwise, why not go for the largest chunk of waste and put together a program that aims to delivers car rather than reject claims. That's what people need and want.

It makes me sick to think we

It makes me sick to think we are paying salaries to these DC shills for corporate interests in the name of being our "representatives". Since when do they listen to and represent the will of the people? They have had their palms greased by too many K Streeters and they are making too much money investing in things against our best interests (Nancy Pelosi/one million dollars invested in the bailouts.) When We the Taxpayers objected to Privatized health insurance, DC came up with the "Public Option" which is a different label for still privatized/for-profit health care. When We the Taxpayers pulled the covers on this scam, DC came up with a "co-op" scheme which allocates insurance to small/local/regional insurers with no clout to compete against the big box insurance companies . (You may read, business as usual.) If DC spent as much time on getting us Single-payer as they do on coming up with one hair-brained scheme after another, We the Taxpayers would be better off. Single-payer now.

It is outrageous that the

It is outrageous that the left, that is the representatives of the public's interest, has the right's private interests within it for division, making the left unable to represent the public's interests; as the Republican Party only represents private interests. If the right-wing NEW Democrats and the right-wing BLUE DOGS keep the common majority population from getting health care for all, then it is time for the common majority to unify and show their power, as there is no other alternative. All people must have a right to health care. Health care has been proven by many countries to be a benefit economically for all. Greed of private insurance and private drug companies can not be allowed to continue pulling the strings in the United States that keeps the common majority population from having adequate health care; it just cannot be allowed to continue. The common majority will have to take the situation into their own hands if this greed continues.

So money is making some

So money is making some "democrats" label system stabilizers as lefties? I knew some democrats were hypocritical as the far right Republicans. If we squander this opportunity, our decline will speed as does global warming. On the second thought, our planet is likely to die anyway so let the lords of money and hypocrisy decide whatever they want.... Pass gun laws so everyone can carry a machine gun, an armored vehicle and a tank/fighter planes. Abolish EPA, and all federal agencies. Do away with elections and let the rich and famous of the marketplace run affairs through invisible hands like 18th-19th century England. What wonderful time will free enterprise bring to the world united under a far right god....

I highly recommend everybody

I highly recommend everybody read Bob Cesca's ""My Face Was Ripped Off" and Other Arguments for a Public Option" [Google it]. He covers an overview of public opinion polls on the subject. Seems the only people who don't want single payer or some kind of public option are- you guessed it- the freeloaders on Capital Hill and the lousy stinking thieving goodfornuthin' lobbyists. Who get paid to rip the rest of us off. [much like the insurance companies]. I do hope everyone is wearing their noisemaking hats right now- because we should all be screaming bloody murder.

Run better Dems in the next

Run better Dems in the next primary. Use Norquist tactics. Let every "centerist" Democrat (whatever color dog they may be) understand that if they vote for a healthcare bill without a strong public option --one which can use the clout of its numbers in the public's behalf -- then we (Kos & Co. and others) will find support for someone to run against them in the next primary. Someone earlier wrote: It is "time for the common majority to unify and show their power, as there is no other alternative... The common majority will have to take the situation into their own hands if this greed continues." Well, think about HOW to show our power and HOW to take the situation into our own hands. A one-day HEALTH-OUT with all workers taking a day off to "lobby" their representatives is a good start. Who can organize it?

Gee, progressive liberals

Gee, progressive liberals don't kowtow to corporate lobbyists, but some aide says the Blue Dogs would like to agree but are just more concerned? For whom? What a load of crap. We should just start calling those Blue Dog Democrats what they really are: REPUBLICANS. I bet they will love being saddled with that loser brand!

Let's hope the Blue Dogs are

Let's hope the Blue Dogs are getting lots and lots of kickbacks, because they're going to lose their precious seats next election right along with the rest of the Repugs. We the people ain't gonna stand for this garbage any more.

These guys (and gals) in the

These guys (and gals) in the legislature just continue to ignore "we the people" while somebody out there continues to call anyone who is interested in the welfare of others as "crazy liberals." It is tiring. Meanwhile, the USA of all industrialized nations has the most absurdly expensive health care system that so few can afford. To imagine anything will change without a public option is just that: imagination. Anyone who chooses to open his or her eyes can see that no change will come of the insurance industry's insistence that things will improve. Public option at the very least. Best would be single payer. But when has our government been able to overcome the lobbyists and bring us the best. Agghhh.

Forget health care for all.

Forget health care for all. The best these corporate sock puppets can do is to sell us the same old sh_t in a brand new bag. We should have seen it during the campaign when Oscama refused to be specific about ANYTHING! I am convinced now that nothing will change in this country until the current systems collapse into rubble and turmoil. Now that's a pleasant thought, huh?
