Legislators for Sale

Members of Congress are failing to represent their constituents in the health care fight.

Finally tonight, as promised, a Special Comment on Health Care Reform in this country, and in particular, the "public insurance option." In March of 1911, after a wave of minor factory fires in New York City, the City's Fire Commissioner issued emergency rules about fire prevention, protection, escape, sprinklers. The City's Manufacturers Association in turn called an emergency meeting to attack the Fire Commissioner and his 'interference with commerce.'

The new rules were delayed. Just days later, a fire broke out at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. The door to the fire escape was bolted shut to keep the employees from leaving prematurely. One hundred and fifty of those employees died, many by jumping from the seventh floor windows to avoid the flames. Firefighters setting up their ladders literally had to dodge the falling, often burning, women. This was the spirit of the American corporation then. It is the spirit of the American corporation now. It is what the corporation will do, when it is left alone, for a week. You know the drill. We all know the drill.

You get something done, at a doctor's, at a dentist's, at an emergency room and the bills are in your hands before the pain medication wears off. And if you're one of the lucky ones, and you have insurance, you submit the endless paperwork and no matter whether it's insurance through your company, or your union, or your non-profit, or on your own dime, you then get your turn ... at the roulette wheel.

How much of it is the insurance company going to pay this time? How much of it is the insurance company - about which you have next to no choice, and against which you have virtually no appeal - how much is this giant corporation going to give you back? What small percentage of what they told you they were going to pay you, will they actually pay you?

You know the answer. And, you know the answer if you don't have insurance. But do you know why that's the answer?

Because the insurance industry owns the Republican Party. Not exclusively. Pharma owns part of it, too. Hospitals and HMO's, another part. Nursing homes - they have a share. You name a Republican, any Republican, and he is literally brought to you by... campaign donations from the Health Sector. Sen. John Thune of South Dakota? You gave the Republican rebuttal to the President's weekly address day before yesterday. You said the Democrats' plan was for...

"...government run health care that would disrupt our current system, and force millions of Americans who currently enjoy their employer-based coverage into a new health care plan run by government bureaucrats."

That's a bald-faced lie, Senator. And you're a bald-faced liar, whose bald face is covered by...your own health care plan run by government bureaucrats. Nobody would be forced into anything; and the Public Insurance Option is no more a disruption than letting the government sell you water, and not just Poland Spring and Sparkletts. But, as corrupt hypocrites go, Senator, at least you're well paid. What was that one statement worth to you in contributions from the Health Sector, Sen. Thune?

Five thousand dollars? Ten? We know what you are, Sir, we're arguing about the price. What about your other quote? "We can accomplish health care reform while keeping patients and their doctors in charge, not bureaucrats and politicians." Wow, Senator - this illustrates how desperate you and the other Republicans are, right? Because Sen. Thune, if you really think "bureaucrats and politicians" need to get out of the way of "patients and their doctors," then you support a woman patient's right to get an abortion, and you supported Michael Schiavo's right to take his wife off life support, and you oppose "bureaucrats and politicians" getting in the way, and we'll just mark you down on the pro-choice list. That's a rare misstep for you Sen. Thune. No twelve-thousand dollar payoff for that statement! I am not being hyperbolic, am I, Senator? On the money?

Sen. Thune has thus far received from the Health Sector, campaign contributions - and all these numbers tonight are from "The Center For Responsive Politics" - campaign contributions amounting to one million, $206,176. So much for Sen. Thune. How about Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite? Good evening Ma'am. You are the Florida representative who claimed on the Floor that Democrats had..."...released a health care bill which essentially said to America's seniors: drop dead."

Now those are strong, terrorizing, words - that's exactly what your Insurance and Medical Overlords wanted to hear. But are you truly worth every dollar of the $369,000,255 of them you have received over the years from the Health Sector? I'd reed the rest of the operative part of your speech myself, but your rendition actually cannot be matched:

Listen up, America, seniors have special needs. This bill ignored the, ignores the needs of Florida's health care system. We should be fixing what is broke. Not disseminate, disseminating, decimating, the care of our senior population. - July 21, 2009

You can always tell, can't you, Congresswoman, when the hostage is reading her own ransom note, and when she is reading one written for her? So much for Rep. Brown-Waite. There are so many other Republicans, bought and sold - like the unfortunate Congresswoman there -by the Health Sector. Minority Leader McConnell of the Senate?

You're worth $3.1 million to the Health Sector? A million and a half just for last year's election? And I'm supposed to think you aren't a sellout, a liar, a paid spokesman, a shill, a carnival barker? So much for Sen. McConnell. Rep. Joe Barton of Oklahoma - $2,660,000, Congressman? That's ten times what Sen. Robert Byrd has accepted from the Health Sector.

Congressman! What a guy! So much for Rep. Barton. Sen. McCain - $1.6?

To serve the Hospitals, and the Drug Companies, and the Nursing Homes? And not to serve the retirement communities of Arizona? Or the cancer survivors? Or the veterans? So much for Sen. McCain. I could go on all night and never exaggerate in the slightest.

PBS pointed out that the health and insurance industries are spending more than a million, $400,000 a day, just to destroy the "public option" - the truly non-profit, wieldy, round-up and not round-down, government, from helping you pay your medical bills with about a billionth of the recklessness with which it is still paying Halliburton and its spin-offs to kill your kids.

And much of this money is going to, and through, Republicans. But that's the real point tonight.

Not all of it is going through Republicans. Because the evil truth is, the Insurance industry, along with Hospitals, HMO's, Pharma, nursing homes - it owns Democrats, too.

    Not the whole party.

Candidate Barack Obama got more than $18 million from the Health Sector just last year. And you can bet somebody in the Health Trust, somebody responsible for buying influence, got fired over what Obama's done. No, the Democrats are not wholly owned. Hundreds of Democrats have taken campaign money from the Health Sector without handing over their souls as receipts. But conveniently, the ones who are owned, have made themselves easy to spot in a crowd.

They've called themselves "Blue Dogs," and they are out there, hand-in-hand with the Republicans who they are happy to condemn day and night on everything else, throatily singing "Kumbaya" with the men and women who were bought and sold to defend this con game of an American health care system against the slightest encroachment.

Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas. Leader of the Blue Dogs in the House. You're the guy demanding a guarantee that Reform won't add to the deficit. I'm guessing you forgot to demand that about, say, Iraq. You're a Democrat, you say, Congressman? You saw what Sandy Barham said?

Sandy Barham is 62 years old, she's got a bad heart, and she's hoping her valves will hold together for three more years until Medicaid kicks in, because she can't afford insurance.

Not just for herself, mind you. For her employees. She needs the public option. So do those six people who work at that restaurant of hers, Rep. Ross. And why should you give a crap?

Because Sandy Barham's restaurant is the Broadway Railroad CafΓ©, and it is at 123 West First Street North in Prescott, Arkansas.

Prescott, Arkansas, Rep. Ross. Your home town. You are Sandy Barham's congressman. Hers, Sir. Not Blue Cross's and Blue Shield's, even if they do insure 75% of the state and they own you. The top donor so far to Congressman Ross's bid for re-election next year? The Blue Dog PAC - $10,000. Second? Something called Invacare - $7,300. Oh, they make wheelchairs and rollers. And slings, they're big in slings. Tied for third? The American Dental Association, another $5,000.

Your top donors by industry, Rep. Ross? Health professionals: $29,250. Then, Pharma and Health products: $12,250. And so far in your career, Rep. Ross, your total haul from the Health Sector is $921,000. That's 90th in the combined list of donations for the House and the Senate, Sir. 90th out of 537. You should be proud, Congressman!

Except for the fact, that before you started living off the public dime, you owned a pharmacy. And your grandmother was a nurse. And turns out you're not Sandy Barham's congressman, you're Blue Cross's. So much or Rep. Ross.

Rep. Bart Gordon of Tennessee. Congressman? Undecided on the public option? At $1,173,000 in donations from the Health Sector, I'm surprised. You should have already said no - and loudly. The only thing you should be "undecided" about, is whether or not you're really a Democrat. So much for Rep. Gordon. Sen. Max Baucus of Montana. Good evening, Senator.

So you're supposed to be negotiating all this out with the Republicans and hesitant Democrats? To gain bi-partisanship with a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Health Sector? Bi-partisanship that will get you, what? A total of no votes? And your price has been, let's see $414,000 in donations from Hospitals. About $667,000 from the insurance companies and just over a million from Big Pharma. There was a $1,300,000 from other health professional and $237,000 from Nursing Homes.

When you think of getting $237,000 in campaign contributions from nursing homes, Sen. Baucus, do you ever think about whether they subtract that amount of money evenly from all the patients suffering and dying in the lousy ones, or just from a few of the lousy ones? So much for Sen. Baucus. Sadly, this list could go on almost all night, too.

I could ask Blue Dog Congressman, Democrat John Tanner of Tennessee, if, since he's gotten $215,000 from hospitals over the years, if I and the appropriate number of my friends were willing to make it $216,000, if we could buy his vote - or would there have to be an auction?

We could bring up Senator Hagan, and Congressman Pomeroy, who, at 628-thousand, appears to represent the Insurance Industry and not North Dakota. I could bring up Sen. Carper, and Sen.Blanche Lincoln.

Senator Lincoln? By the way, considering how you're obstructing health care reform, how do you feel... every time you actually see Sen. Kennedy? I could bring up all the other Democrats doing their masters' bidding in the House or the Senate, all the others who will get an extra thousand from somebody if they just postpone the vote another year, another month, another week, because right now without the competition of a government-funded insurance company, in one hour the health care industries can make so much money that they'd kill you for that extra hour of profit, I could call them all out by name.

But I think you get the point. We don't need to call the Democrats holding this up Blue Dogs. That one word "Dogs" is perfectly sufficient. But let me speak to them collectively, anyway.I warn you all. You were not elected to create a Democratic majority. You were elected to restore this country. You were not elected to serve the corporations and the trusts who the government has enabled for the last eight years.

You were elected to serve the people. And if you fail to pass or support this legislation, the full wrath of the progressive and the moderate movements in this country will come down on your heads. Explain yourselves not to me, but to them. They elected you, and in the blink of an eye, they will replace you.

If you will behave as if you are Republicans - as if you are the prostitutes of our system -you will be judged as such. And you will lose not merely our respect. You will lose your jobs!

Every poll, every analysis, every vote, every region of this country supports health care reform, and the essential great leveling agent of a government-funded alternative to the unchecked duopoly of profiteering private insurance corporations. Cross us all at your peril.

Because, Rep. Ross, you are not the Representative from Blue Cross.

And Mr. Baucus, you are not the Senator from Schering-Plough Global Health Care even if they have already given you $76,000 towards your re-election. And Ms. Lincoln, you are not the Senator from DaVita Dialysis.

Because, ladies and gentlemen, President Lincoln did not promise that this nation shall have a new death of freedom, and that government of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation, shall not perish from this earth.

    Good night and good luck.

Thx for mention of Nursing

Thx for mention of Nursing homes (euphemism: Long Term Care Facilities). Add disabled to seniors, who get medicare and forced into nursing homes instead of cheaper care living at home. www.adapt.org We want Single Payer.

Bravo.

Bravo.

Gotta love Keith Olbermann.

Gotta love Keith Olbermann. It's a wonder he hasn't been taken off the air by the corporate media handlers.

Thanks Keith. The curtain

Thanks Keith. The curtain has been pulled away to reveal the money. Time for publicly funded elections, limits on campaign spending, etc.

Good summary of the

Good summary of the corruption surrounding trying to reform health care. One thing Keith missed was the fact that many of these Blue Dog/Blue Cross Democrats and Repubs could leave Congress to take fat paychecks/bonuses in the health industry just as many left the Beltway to work for Big Pharma (as executives and lobbyists) after the industry-favorable legislation was passed in the Cheney/ GW Bush administration. Thus they probably know they have a very profitable safety net even if they are not re-elected.

A voice in the wilderness,

A voice in the wilderness, thanks Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann is the ombudsman

Olbermann is the ombudsman for the Democrats who are probably a majority of his audience. His message assumes the fiery tenor of an angry prophet. His well-channeled anger is unique and well articulated. American mainstream pundits on the hazy Left and Center often downplay the urgency of issues such as health care for all.

Thank you Keith, what you

Thank you Keith, what you did in naming names and amounts received is absolutely what we Americans need to know. It is what all progressive talk show hosts need to do. In fact they should spend all their air time simply reading off names and amounts received by all Blue Dogs, especially. Since I was a child I have heard, "You can't trust any polititian". Now we are getting the information we need to understand Why we can't trust them. Of course there the few, Feingold, Kucinich who really are {public servants". Also, we need to know how many Senators and Representatives are millionaires and what they were worth before they were elected to Congress.

Welcome back Keith. To

Welcome back Keith. To quote Rachel Maddow. You were truly missed!

Finally, someone telling the

Finally, someone telling the truth. I wish other news shows weren't so afraid to speak up. They'll only go so far for fear of retribution. Keep up the great work Keith. We missed you. Also- I've called all of my representatives to remind them that I will remember them at the polls.

Fat paychecks awaiting

Fat paychecks awaiting members of Congress are, indeed, a big part of this story---and lobbying in general. I don't think they do it mainly for the votes. The wink-and-nod from their patrons that a well-paying position in lobbying or consulting awaits them is much more valuable. How do we combat this? I think Congress needs a significant base pay raise and also higher raises by seniority. At about $160k per year, Congress pays slave wages given the workload and required mental capacity. The starting salary should be more like $250k, with an opportunity to hit $400k with seniority. A raise will help make law-making a more lucrative, long-term career rather than a stepping stone to the real payoff.

Too bad you didn't bring up

Too bad you didn't bring up Sen. Ben Nelson. Years ago he was a republican but couldn't get elected. Look into the multi-state haz waste agreement that Nebraska taxpayers are going to get stuck with because of him. When he was Governor of that state he breached a contract and Nebraskans will pay for that mistake. Talk about waste of taxpayer money.

Vonnegut said that people

Vonnegut said that people need good lies because there's so many bad ones. Thanks Keith, for bringing those good (i.e., enormous) ones into the light.

Excellent. Great work,

Excellent. Great work, Keith. We missed you. (and why why why is your voice "in the wilderness?") This should be on every channel. Part of network and cable news. We have been betrayed by those who lead us. Thank you, Keith, although alone at least you called them out. Cathryn

Until we get rid of the need

Until we get rid of the need for excessive amounts of money to run a campaign, this problem will be with us. We must either eliminate the use of TV for campaigns, or make it free for all candidates. The British have chosen to eliminate it. We can do either, since WE, THE PEOPLE own the airways, and we must insist on the FCC not granting licenses to networks unless they agree to give equal free time to all candidates, and if any candidat4e buys extra time, give an equal amount of time to the others. There will be no need to be bought by the health industry or any other industry, if there is no need for all the funds that go to TV ads.

Thank you again, Keith. We

Thank you again, Keith. We can always count on you to call a DOG a DOG!!!

We need much more of the

We need much more of the information included by Keith. As the medical writer for the Rasg Blog I become more and more discouraged by the situation. (1) The DEmocrats, even those supposedly for universal care, when they get an opportunity on TV, tend to equivicate, fail to take strong positions, indicate the need for "bipartisinship", and generally come through as weak and indecisive. (2) The public needs information, it must be brief and simple. For instance, 30% of seniors do not know that Medicare is a government run program, or that the V.A. is true socialized medicine and provides excellent care within the funding limits for 8 years of the Bush administration. We must demand that the jelly fish in the Senate leadership stand up as men, and ignore the finance committee in toto. The house leadership must become very firm with the Blue Dogs. We will never win with half-hearted reswponses. We need single payer health care, but in its absence we must demand the public option.

With the blatant bribery of

With the blatant bribery of the Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans in Congress, the next logical step has to be that these corrupt congresspersons will use the ton of cash to bribe citizens to vote for them next election. Maybe some of us could use that money to pay our medical bills.

What would I do without you,

What would I do without you, Keith, to articulate the anger I've been feeling these past eight years. There doesn't seem to be anything to be done about the Republicans---they are HOPELESSm but thanks for the list of Blue Dogs obstructing the health care legislation. I will write to them personally. Living in the District of Columbia, I don't have my own representative, but I have been contributing multiple times to the Democratic National Committee to get more voices in Congress. If the Dems keep getting in the way of our one chance to effect real change in this country, there will be no more contributions from me (except maybe for specific people). And after 50 years I will change my party affiliation to Independent

Thanks again Keith for doing

Thanks again Keith for doing what's necessary. Your reporting is what we need - names, dates, dollars, etc. Pinning down the exact facts is the only thing I want from 'the news.' We enjoy your show and feel the same rage here in Arizona...Good luck to you too...

"Members of Congress are

"Members of Congress are failing to represent their constituents in the health care fight."

This is true only if you believe that members of Congress represent the People.

This is in response to "An"

This is in response to "An" speaking about election campaign reform. Too right!! WE,THE PEOPLE do own the airways and we have forgotten that. Quoting, "we must insist on the FCC not granting licenses to networks unless they agree to give equal free time to all candidates". This must be for both TV and radio. Thank you "An" for bringing this up. Truthout should start such a campaign.

You speak for me, Keith. It

You speak for me, Keith. It is hard to see how corporate goals and the common good can be reconciled without government intervention in the health care arena. Sincere thanks for exposing the institutionalized hypocrisy and corruption that is the major barrier to solving this problem.

KeithOlbermann is walking in

KeithOlbermann is walking in the steps of Walter Kronkite.

Amazing, watching this from

Amazing, watching this from Australia. Deja vu! we had this argument thirty years ag. The sky, we were told, was going to fall in, we were not going to be able to choose our doctors etc etc. We were going the critics argued to have 'socialized medicine!' We also had unpaid medical bills as the chief source of bankruptcy in Australia. Guess what. Thirty years on: The sky is still blue. People do choose doctors, and if we want to spend extra we can have hospitals with deep pile carpet and latte coffees. Most of us though choose the excellent public system. Bankruptcy over medical bills is a thing of the past. And we have a healthier society. America, go for it! You have nothing to lose but Medico gangsterism.

I seldom , if ever, disagree

I seldom , if ever, disagree with Keith. I have always felt that he was Walter Cronkite on steroids, and I mean that in a most flattering way. His fire and brimstone muck-raking commentaries have helped many of us to make better choices about our leadership and where we are heading, stressing the importance of accountability in politics. I hope that he will continue to see to it that the greed and lies of those who put their own political careers over the public good of the people they should be duty-bound to preserve and protect are always publicly exposed.

I simply could not believe

I simply could not believe what I heard from Keith Olbermann. He inspired me to call all of my legislators today and I made sure the Staff person knew that I had heard the broadcast and I was watching them like a hawk. The Democrats were very nice, cordial, and agreed with Keith. The Republican Staff person, however, was curt, and appeared in vocal sound to be very put out that 'they' would be watched. So I guess I've cleared up who will be getting my vote(s) in the coming elections. Don't they REALIZE that they have 'been found out'??!!

May Keith Olberman have a

May Keith Olberman have a long life.

A real American hero - KO

A real American hero - KO has emerged as the modern day equivalent of Paul Revere and George Washington. He has taken truth back to its lofty place as the creator of peace and love. The Reagan-through-Bush demons did nothing as well as lie. Obama is hanging by a thread. Can we suggest seriously promoting Keith for president if Obama can't shake himself loose from the devilish claws of the corporations? I really see no one to stop the onslaught of Clinton or even another dose of Rethuglicans after the disappointing Obama dog and pony show.

Keith O., Please do not stop

Keith O., Please do not stop kicking the rabid dogs until the pack disbands. "If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack." Winston Churchill. Campaign donation reform: Make all campaign donations 'personal taxable income' to the specific recipient... unless they in turn donate 50% of it to charitable causes and programs... like Social Security, Medicare (and in their home state Medicaid), Habitat for Humanity etcetera. Term of office: Maybe the 'framers' had the length of service right 210 years ago... but in today's world, six years in the senate should be reduced to four years. In the house, four years should be reduced to three. Maybe even that is too long. Where do the MBA's of today's corporate society stand on that idea? Run the Congress as a corporation... where the people are the Board of Directors. Point is, I want the opportunity (sooner) to vote OUT the dirtbags that won't do the peoples' will. I'd rather have them ignore me for a shorter period of time and let them know that I WILL dump them sooner, if they don't work for me/us. Kind of like how corporations treat employees. Healthcare NOW! Or resign, you lowlifes! "Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have." - Winston Churchill

It's been said that we have

It's been said that we have the best Congress that money can buy. I'd say it's frequently the WORST CONGRESS MONEY CAN BUY. Term limits, anyone?

Thanks to Keith for not

Thanks to Keith for not being a homer. You'll out Dems. just as quickly as Reps. when they screw up. Unlike your counterparts on Faux News, you don't march in goose steps to the party line. Keep it up Mr. Olbermann, I've enjoyed your attacks on Obama when he's wrong as well. I'm a progressive who worked to help get Obama elected but I'm not brainwashed. We should all keep those we elected honest and on target. We can't let them backslide and begin representing the party and not the people.

A lot of North Dakotans will

A lot of North Dakotans will appreciate this, especially Keith mentioning our erstwhile at-large Congressperson who claims to be against this because of issues with Medicare reimbursements to doctors when so many of us know it's more about his top career donors, Blue Cross - Blue Shield and (of all companies) New York Life. (Validating the concern many of us have for both corporate influence and out-of-state corporate influence.) You'd think after the way we fired incumbents right and left (literally) in 2006 & 2008 that they'd figure out that we can and will fire them? Considering that health care is consistently a top-three issue in every poll I've ever read, you'd think they'd be a little more interested in what WE want. Just goes to show that the culture in DC is a big fat corporate party (pun intended), leaving few Members and Senators who would qualify as designated drivers. (To be fair, our Senators are somewhat more responsible on this issue.) elizabeth, ND INDEPENDENT FOR (a) REASON (Pun Intended)

Great comment about the TV

Great comment about the TV campaign ads. More people in this country need to know how other democracies use TV (or not) for elections. For example, our neighbor to the north provides free and fair time to candidates. The excuse that we don't have a parliamentary system or that SCOTUS was right about Valeo (1976) - the WORST First Amendment precedent EVER - flies in the face of everything I understand Madison and Mason to have intended. As for "Blue Dogs" and "Dogs," that would be my one quibble with Keith's comment. The Blue Dogs don't deserve to be called dogs, one of the most unconditionally loving and loyal creatures on the planet. We should be so lucky that they would actually be as loyal as my dogs.

Bang: Representatives

Bang: Representatives already serve 2-year terms, not 4.

what does it mean exactly

what does it mean exactly that in a plutocracy as the usa an honest journalist as keith olbermann can say this on television?

That is a good example of

That is a good example of how figures lie and liars figure. The last time I looked, those precious Democrats' fearless leader, Ms. Pelosi got more contributions from health professionals than any other sector. But wait, I thought the Republicans were influenced by healthcare money. Hmm, one of us must be confused.

" Thu, 08/06/2009 - 01:07 β€” stan van houcke (not verified) What it means, Stan, is that so long as General Electric Corporation (NBC/MSNBC) makes good money from Olberman's "show," he can rant all he wants to. When ratings drop, causing ad revenue to drop, he's history. Nothing personal, nothing political. Back to the ol' sports desk for Keith! As with all BigGovCorp entities (GE is the government's largest contractor), what matters is not political philosophies, or even exposing crooks and liars. What matters is the bottom line, MONEY! They are smart -- they don't care whose money it was, so long as an acceptable amount of it becomes theirs. Republican and Democrat, conservatives, liberals, independents, are all alike to them -- a bottomless pit full of money to transfer from you to them, by way of your consumerism through their advertisers --and they will get it anyway they can. General Electric Corporation is the Yogi of television-- "smarter than your average bear."

Name one of these

Name one of these legislatures who is not bought, please. Only one? Thanks Keith, do more.

Keith, You have actually

Keith, You have actually done a disservice to dogs, particularly mine. In fact, I know many nice ones. Better to be more accurate and call these folks for what they really are... corrupt, incredibly hypocritical scum bags. Red or blue... same difference, same overpowering smell. They simply don't care. roberto

Thank you, Keith, for

Thank you, Keith, for expressing so well how so many Americans feel about these "representatives". America's government has been taken over by lackeys of the health insurance industry. I'm beginning to think it's time for that revolution Thomas Jefferson said every government needs every so often, including his/our own. This Congress is no longer answerable to the People. Just about every single one of them should be booted out.

Keith, thanks a lot, and

Keith, thanks a lot, and braaaavooooo!!! Your special reports are always amazing. You are number one!!!

Thank you for naming names:

Thank you for naming names: corporations and p0litiicans. I propose that all Americans, with insurance, without, etc, all Americans who can move beyond in compassion and concern about the society to think about others, those who do not have insurance or underinsured, to begin working on a plan to have the largest MARCH ON WASHINGTON since Mr. King's speech. Too often the progressive moment is too fragmented and or too complacent that knowing at its roots changes in this country. Anyone have any ideas how to network and get transportation funding for buses, train, auto, planes, etc., to get all Americans who want to join the rank of civilized society, to come together post Congressional recess. Nothing less will bring the pain of millions to the narcissistic and primitive members of Congress who have stopped care for all. On Pres Obama: never mind. He is too in need of being liked to deal with. The focus needs to be to walk to Congress, name ALL corporations and their CEOs and legislative lobbyist.....civil disobedience in the name of a civil society. I am not surprised this has happened. Time to impeach the President for pure incompetence. Time come next congressional election to vote out all members who stopped universal care in its track. Wake up America.....we must not let up. Name names!

So, which party is owned by

So, which party is owned by trial lawyers? Trial lawyers drive up medical costs with outrageous "jackpot" punitive awards, and they resist tort reform which would limit medical lawsuits. Some physicians have to pay $200k a year or more in liability insurance, which is passed along to patients. 70% of lawyers' political contributions go to Democrats.

Keith is awesome and one of

Keith is awesome and one of a few American Patriot's the voters of this great nation have. I turned to MSNBC after leaving CNN for all my news starting at 4 PM(Central)and continuing thru 4 full hours. I even listen to Ed Schultz on the radio. MSNBC is doing an awesome job for the progressive movement, without this station American's would not know or understand just what is really going on now and has been for quite a few years. Let's take back our government, stay on top of the issues, fight for our rights as voters and bring back our Democracy that has become a Corporatocracy. Good luck and be sure to stay tuned to MSNBC for the latest! I love 'em! You guys are awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oberman said "Candidate

Oberman said "Candidate Barack Obama got more than $18 million from the Health Sector just last year. And you can bet somebody in the Health Trust, somebody responsible for buying influence, got fired over what Obama's done. No, the Democrats are not wholly owned. Hundreds of Democrats have taken campaign money from the Health Sector without handing over their souls as receipts." Oberman seems to overlook the fact that Obama and the Democratic leadership took single-payer off the table from the start, and that this was their payback for those large campaign contributions. Obama nuanced the whole health care issue, which began as a need for universal health care, into a public option that would preserve the insurance industry while NOT being universal. Thus, the corporate powers have bought there own safety net by having the public option as the worst case scenario, instead of single-payer. This was a deal made by Obama and the Democratic leadership, including Pelosi, Baucus, etc.
