Obama to Preempt McCain Assault

Branding his opponent as "erratic in a crisis," Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is preempting plans by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to portray him as having sinister connections to controversial Chicagoans.

Obama officials call it political jujitsu - turning the attacks back on the attacker.

McCain officials had said early in the weekend that they plan to begin advertising after Tuesday's debate that will tie Obama to convicted money launderer Tony Rezko and former Weathermen radical William Ayers.

But Obama isn't waiting to respond. His campaign is going up Monday on national cable stations with a scathing ad saying: "Three quarters of a million jobs lost this year. Our financial system in turmoil. And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy. No wonder his campaign wants to change the subject.

"Turn the page on the financial crisis by launching dishonorable, dishonest 'assaults' against Barack Obama. Struggling families can't turn the page on this economy, and we can't afford another president who is this out of touch."

Then Obama says: "I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message."

McCain officials told Politico that the new offensive is likely to focus on Rezko and Ayers. The officials said the campaign will not bring up the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's former pastor, because McCain has forbade them from using that as a weapon. Without being specific, the officials said outside groups may focus on Wright.

When word of the planned attacks leaked Saturday, Obama officials said within hours that it was an attempt by McCain to distract voters from the economy.

""We think the McCain campaign made a huge error by telling the press that their strategy was to distract from the most important issue facing voters," a senior Obama official said. "Every attack going forward will be easy to characterize for what it is - an attempt to distract from the Bush-McCain economic record."

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds hinted at the tough new line Saturday on "Fox & Friends."

"There are associations that are important to who Barack Obama is as a candidate, who he'd be as president," Bounds said.

Obama-Biden communications director Dan Pfeiffer said about the new ads: "If John McCain thinks he can 'turn the page' on the economic crisis facing American families, he is even more out of touch than we imagined. Now there may be no good answers for John McCain due to his erratic response to the financial crisis, but his desire to avoid discussing the economy is something we will remind voters of everyday for the next month."

Most readers should by now

Most readers should by now know about the Keatings 5 and S&L scandal, and today the Obama campaign is rolling out a 13 min film on the subject. I wonder though whether McCain won't simply be able to brush it off by saying that the Ethics committee did not sanction him. I don't have a high opinion about the socalled "independents" and have little reason to believe that they make their decisions after reading or viewing the evidence in the Keating 5 issue. They're just as susceptible to defamation campaigns as the rest of us.

It would seem that the the

It would seem that the the decision to go negative and try to align Obama with The Weatherman nd money launders is in itself of John McCain and his advisers making an erratic desperate decisions in the face of a crisis (his campaign beginning to fail).

What is about Democrats,

What is about Democrats, anyway? Other than Bill Clinton, doesn't anyone understand electoral politics? In 2004 I could have beaten Bush as Kerry's campaign manager. ["When I voted for the Iraq war I assumed that my president was an honorable man and was telling the truth. When I discovered he was dishonorable and had lied about the war and sent 4000 American kids to die, I opposed him."] Look at UTube. There you'll find news footage of McBush saying one thing and two days later contradicting himself and saying whatever it takes to make himself look better. Put up footage of McBush opposing financial regulation and the next day calling for intense regulations. Over and over again. Show footage of his 20 year long support of deregulation. Follow that with Obama speaking against the war in 03 and warning MONTHS ago of the impending crisis. An erratic, crazy, lazy man like McBush has no business in the White House, except on the tour. Palin needs to go back to the mall and leave the rest of us alone. I'm not that thrilled by the Obama-Biden ticket -- personally I'd prefer Nader and/or McKinney and/or Kucinich, but that's too much to hope for. Almost anyone is better than McBush. Of course, that excludes Pale-in.

Have you noticed that,

Have you noticed that, throughout this campaign, McCain has attacked Obama on the very faults he has? It is almost like psychological projection.... seeing in others one"s own faults or guilt. McCain has plenty of things in his closet that the press has passed on him about over the years. 1. His war record. The recent article in Rolling Stone shows McCain to be a fake from the beginning, exaggerating his "narrative" about his life. 2. McCain and Keating. Anyone who was not a "war hero" would have been slapped with a jail sentence for obstruction of justice when he tried to block Federal investigators trying to get at the bottom of Keating's crimes 3. The influence peddling McCain's "advisors" do with everyone from gambling casinos to financial giants. Are the contributions these people give to McCain contributions or kickbacks for his "access?" 4. McCain's erratic and explosive temper. This is a guy who is seething all the time. His "Mr. Cool" act is just that and has fooled media types for years. The guy is a time bomb, One wonders how much they medicate him before they turn him lose on the public. And the list goes on.... Everyone should read Tim Dickinson's article, "McCain the Make-Believe Maverick," in the Oct. 5th issue of Rolling Stone. It shows the real John McCain and how he got that way. Scary as Hell that such a screwup could get so close to the presidency of the United States. This guy makes Bush look smart and honest. McCain should have been satisfied with peddling his lies about the economy and Iraq and stayed away from character issues. Karma can be a Bitch.

You gotta love

You gotta love American-style politics! Avoid the issues and focus on ad hominem attacks. It is something, at least, that Sarah Palin is good at. You can see why the country is teetering on the abyss.

"Stolen from Deval Patrick"

"Stolen from Deval Patrick" - This will be the next attack by the Palinites. Just as the McCain campaign resembles very closely the MA Gov 2006 campaign run by the Republican Kerry Healey, their attacks will accuse Obama of mimicking his friend, MA Gov and Dem Deval Patrick. The "Just Words" motif was the greatest thing I have ever heard live, and the "I'd Change The Subject, Too" section was part of the same speech. A note to McCain-Palin: Deval won.

Next thing McCain will tell

Next thing McCain will tell is that Obama is really ET. It does not matter any more as it appears that everyone will vote ANYTHING but Republican in this election. Remember to vote.

What about Neil Bush`s role

What about Neil Bush`s role with the Keating 5 fiasco, that deviant skunk was at the helm collapsing Colorado Silverado Savings & Loan... Let`s not forget to mention the deplorable tactic Bab`s deployed in routing ALL Katrina monetary donations through if you guessed Neil Bush`s failed/failing software company whose school computer programs were mandated under GW`s every child held back until all are equally dumbed down thus none theoretically are left behind EXCEPT by education standards measured outside the USA

Is it irrational to imagine

Is it irrational to imagine that the McCain camp may be encouraging Georgia in its recent agitations against Russia (alleged acts of terrorism attempting to provoke Russia into escalating the conflict)? Thus changing the focus in the campaign from the economy to foreign policy? October surprise?

Bill Ayers is innocent until

Bill Ayers is innocent until convicted. Why are we, Americans who believe that people are innocent until proven guilty, tolerating the McCain attack on a presumably innocent person?
