Airtime: Friday, October 16, 2009 at 9:00 PM (EST) on PBS (check local listings here).

Barack Obama was elected on a message of change, promising a new era of diplomacy and international cooperation - but can the president deliver a new vision of America? Reporting from the world's most troubled hotspots, Mark Danner has seen countless deaths over ethnic and political divides, and witnessed firsthand how US attempts to exploit those conflicts have resulted in disastrous unforeseen consequences. Danner speaks with Bill Moyers about Obama's challenges in resetting the mindset of America from war to peace, and redefining the US as a nation. Danner was a staff writer for many years at The New Yorker, contributes frequently to the New York Review of Books, the New York Times Magazine, and his latest book is "Stripping Bare the Body," which chronicles the moral history of American power over the last quarter century. Also on the program, the "Journal" profiles public health doctor America Bracho, who serves her Santa Ana, California community - notorious for crime, poverty and disease - with her organization, Latino Health Access.

Perhaps if the President

Perhaps if the President focused on the Singular outcome of returning the United States of America to WE THE PEOPLE and aiding US in remembering that WE are much more than WE THE CONSUMERS and that GLOBAL CORPORATIONS ARE NOT OUR MASTERS OR THE OWNERS OF OUR COUNTRY AND OUR GOVERNMENT.., then maybe President Obama can do it... Of course, the main problem for him will be all the Corporate Owned and CONservative Insane-Media Flogged Republicans and the many Spineless Democrat Smiley Faces..., both of which are a bunch of Pseudo Patriots driven by Global Corporate Media 24 hour Newzz-Psycles the way Fidos are drive by Biscuits... I say-- Let's END the GREATEST HOODWINKING IN HISTORY foisted upon us by CONservative Propaganda Media Machines--- That '''LESS GOVERNMENT'' Of the People By The People For the People is Always a Good Thing... Its done nothing but lead to the Usurpation of power From We the People and transferred it to Global Corporations seeking Dominion over us for the sake of increasing shareholder wealth and power..

AMEN !!!

AMEN !!!

Obama is great at delivering

Obama is great at delivering canned speeches written by a team of spin doctors. The problem is that he does not have the experience or capability to develop a workable plan - 0r even a plan at all. All that he has demonstrated is that he can spend money like a drunken sailor, he is extremely naive with respect to foreign policy, and that he is completely incompetent in leading any organization. He is the worst president this country has ever seen.

Obama can't change the U.S.

Obama can't change the U.S. without the Supreme Court overturning decisions involving Corporate Personhood, without overturning Buckley v Valeo - a decision allowing PAC's to raise untold money, and without changing our political campaign laws. What Obama can do is to raise the consciousness of the electorate about these issues and to get them to demand returning power to "We the People" in determining our candidates for Congress. Our nation spends more money on political campaigns than any other nation. This is because corporate special interests, through their PACs, make huge political contributions and because they pay lobbyists huge salaries to persuade Congress to pass legislation in the corporate interests rather than the national interest.

Obama can deliver Vision by

Obama can deliver Vision by the trainload, he's proved that. Congress needs to be controlled by the people; Bill, you know that. Congress delivers the legislation, except the Blue Dogs have ruined it. Neuter them . . . and make them pay "retail" for the procedure.
