    It has been a long and terrible time since tomorrow mattered as much as it does today.

    It began with that first terrible election, the media manipulations, the stolen and uncounted votes, the menacing mobs, and a decision by the highest court which sealed our doom. A man who was not chosen came to possess an office he was unworthy of, and everything that since has come to pass now seems almost preordained, fated, inevitable.

    We have seen tax cuts which looted our Treasury and further enriched the wealthy, we have seen presidential vetoes of legislation designed to heal the sick and feed the children, and we have seen executive orders designed to shatter the Constitution and erase our rights. We have seen annihilation by fire and water visited upon our cities and ourselves. We have seen wars and rumors of wars. We have seen fear visited upon the populace by design. We have seen terrorists, and all too often, they have been us.

    We have known death, and disgrace, and failure, and greed, and theft, and shame, and utter lawlessness. We have lost hope, and been afraid, and fallen to exhaustion and despair. We have seen torture and murder stamped with the seal of highest approval, and we have become what we despise.

    But tomorrow is a different matter.

    Tomorrow is a place of definitions, where change may come and be welcome even in the smallest degree. Tomorrow will see millions upon millions from every national nook and cranny pour forth in celebration of their own lone and lonesome voices.

    Tomorrow, we will know.

    It has been a long, strange and entirely preposterous course that has brought us today to the edge of our next tomorrow. Millions of new voters rewrote an old, calcified map. Fifty states one and all had their say, and their say mattered to the last of it. Money mattered less than organization, less than passion, less than hope, less than tomorrow.

    There are many eyes upon us today as we prepare to step into tomorrow. The eyes of those lost in fire and smoke of a bright September morning watch us, the eyes of those lost in needless battle watch us, the eyes of those subsumed by an invading sea watch us, the eyes of those lost to disease and poverty and greed watch us, the eyes of all those lost who should not be so are upon us, they remember what we did yesterday, and they will see us tomorrow.

    What they call change is nothing more than choice. Tomorrow is another choosing, perhaps the greatest of our lives. Something will happen, and afterward, we will know.

    Tomorrow has come at last.

It has been a long and

It has been a long and terrible time indeed. How a presidential election with candidates who offer no real choice beyond differing personalities rather than policies can make much of a difference is beyond me. Still, when there is nothing else going for you, hope can keep you going. If we offer our hope to each other and open our hearts to the highest possible outcome for everyone in the world, I am absolutely convinced that we can turn around what is happening -- the power of our collective intention is a tremendous creative force that only needs effective action steps to transpire. What can each of us do for there to be liberty for all? We begin with a vision and then we take it from there. We don't settle for bleaker and bleaker choices that are no real choices. Each of us has the key for another person to be released from their shackles. Once we free each other, we can create an entire new game that's a hella lot more fun to play than this one.

It has been a long and terrible time. The time has come for us shake our complacency, our apathy, because we were doing well, even when our neighbors were not. Sit on our hands while the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and grow in number. We have health care, so why worry about others. Time to claim our country from those who only look out for themselves and their cronies. No matter who wins, our electorate has to stand up and demand change. EZ EV

tho tomorrow may bring a new day, something in me cries out for justice...may the perps be held criminaly liable.

And yet the opposition, the

And yet the opposition, the Democratic Party has done very little in the past eight years to investigate, expose, and take to court those who perpetrated the blatant stealing of not one but two elections. I don't know about you, but I've been begging them, the DNC, Party leaders, anyone, to take on that issue with everything it had. I offered to contribute money to that effort. Not a single response. Even by email which costs so little to use. Our leaders seem not to have cared one way or the other whether we have a semblance of democracy, since people seem to fall for the loudest, most lying voice anyway. Now we have another demagogue, the likes of which hasn't been seen in this country since Huey Long of Louisiana (where the egregious Landrieu now "serves"). Of course the election is being stolen. Of course.

However deep the wounds in

However deep the wounds in the USA of the past decades, the suffering has been a scratch compared to that experienced in other lands. I hope that our travails have hit deeply enough for real CHANGE to begin, and to continue so that we can begin to heal the Planet of the wounds that scar us all. When we stop measuring richness with coin and start measuring wealth in accomplishments, in talent, in health on new discoveries, in generosity of spirit.... Then we will have made the change we need most

The unpopularity of Bush has

The unpopularity of Bush has nothing to do with his internal policies which were good. Americans witnessed an economic boom for over six years of his presidency. But his lies about WMD in Iraq were never forgotten. He helped get us into a war without meaning. It has cost the taxpayers over a trillion dollars with no end in sight and finally broke our economy. Americans are peace loving people and hate war. That unpopular war is the reason for the low approval rating of Bush. It makes good political sense for McCain to try to distance himself from an unpopular president. He does not want to appear as a war candidate that will repeat the same mistakes. But the voters know he is an old warhorse who comes from a long line of military men. A vote for McCain is a vote for the war policies of Bush. Obama is a peace candidate. He is a patriotic American that understands that our nation has to be strengthened internally. That is why he will cut the taxes of 95 percent of Americans, rebuild the economy and not waste one cent on a meaningless war. Americans understand his message and that is why he will win by a landslide.

Among tomorrow's voters are

Among tomorrow's voters are those who were 10, 12,14, 16 when GWB came to power. They know only the stories we've told of a different time and different governing styles. With all my might, I want them to know such different possibilities. If it's not to be, I shutter to think of how the world will turn forever more. Dramatic sounding, yes. But that's how it feels, that's how I see it. "Let Freedom Ring."

We are, finally, awakening! In Portland, we are meeting

In Portland, we are meeting to brainstorm how we will help our neighbors through this. There are efforts to make energy-conservation accessible to those who need it most (Community Energy Project can be Googled). There are efforts to make graywater use legal (ReCode). Under the radar, we will help each other. Conversations are starting table to table at coffee shops and restaurants. I am pleased with my town that the only gated community I know of is Dignity Village, which has totally happening, radically designed low-income housing. The guys living there would maybe be overcome by tourists if they didn't have a gate. If they steal this election, they will go the way of Marie Antoinette or in the end get locked for life in one of the prisons they formerly filled with persons who were isolated. I am happy to be involved with City Repair and many other groups. A recent Halloween fund-raiser probably had 1,800 people come. The Portland Fruit Tree Project, DePave, ReCode, City Repair all rent space in a centrally located building where Whole Foods drops off close-dated really good food once or twice per week. Together, change is happening. We are stronger for having faced the beast that has disgraced what the US used to stand for. Around the world, they know our government has descended to the level many foreign citizens are used to with their governments. They feel for ordinary people here and have great hope the ordinary people will be able to overcome a level of corruption which has become s0 damaging to the whole planet. Earth has her ways of helping good stewards. I have great hope for new ways.

There is one more thing that

There is one more thing that could have been said of this long and terrible time, that, to me, sums up the 8 eight years: George W. Bush willingly, knowingly exploited the broken heart of his country after 911. They used the dazed moments, months and years of mourning to spin and spin and spin the web of whatever they needed for the empire. But tomorrow, tomorrow we are awake, we are ready, we are not broken, and we will choose. We will make a choice tomorrow, because we can. The Grand Old Party can choose to reinvent itself, again. A good idea. Because this party is over.

Oh please -- give the corny

Oh please -- give the corny rhetoric and purple prose a break, Bill! The meaning of this election is that the Rulers of the Empire are changing the Proconsul from One Who Is Hated to One Who Is Not Yet Hated by the majority of "citizens." The RepubliCON and DemocRAT organization will win, no matter who is elected. Cindy Sheehan says it all in her commentary against the DemocRAT Pelosi, but the owners of the media are giving her no play. Life will go on. Wars will continue. Theft will continue. Until the people of America wake up and reject the Duopoly, they will remain little other than wage slaves. Enjoy your Tuesday.

I'm praying, I'm hoping and the world is doing the same that November 5th we will know resoundingly that we have PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!! The idea that Palin could be in a position of power is scaring the beejesuz out of the whole world.

I hope the newly invigorated

I hope the newly invigorated left is now aware that ALL elections from now on will be equally time consuming and important. Fibber McCain & Mooselini will probably loose tomorrow, but don't think for a minute that the vested interests who diverted over a trillion dollars of our tax money to setting up a permanent military base and colony in Iraq, and who have been itching for "patriot" act type affronts to our civil rights since the 60s will just disappear. They'll just hide under a rock until the day after innauguration. The propaganda machine was in full force and working on all gears LONG BEFORE Newt's contract ON America or Jr.'s stolen election and rule by divine right. We aren't even close to dismantling the propaganda machine. Just remember, that while Obama represents an innevitable future of Americans finally trying to undo jr.s legacy, the right is very well armed. Despite their rhetoric about "loving" "their" country, they have no love for the constitution on which OUR country is based, American democracy, or the other 2/3 of us who actually live in America. What is it that they get all teary eyed about when the flag is raised? Let's face it. It's NOT America. It's a vicarious thrill and WORSHIP OF THE MILITARY, not to mention the most important element, a dream of a more authoritarian future. This battle won't end in the lifetimes of any living person. This is why people are supporting realists with the sophistication and media savy to not only WIN an election, but also a few battles for the left after the election is won. People have become tired of so called "idealists" who'd rather say "I told you so" from the outside than actually help dig us out of this mess. There are Democrats who are much more liberal than either McKinney OR Nadder. Kuccinich is one of them and he actually ran for president in this election. If he'd been picked by the primary process he would have proven his ability to win and to lead to a majority on the left. McKinney & Nadder would still be running against him with full support from the republican party. To borrow one of the biggest buzzwords of 2008: Obama has been "vetted". I think Obama has proven to the majority of the left that he's ready to lead because of the way he handled his campaign for the past 2 years. NOBODY on the left will EVER convince the right that they are ready to lead. That's not reality any more than just appealing to 5% of the electorate is. I just hope everyone is ready to STAY INVOLVED FROM NOW ON. That would REALLY get under Bill "Oh Really's" skin. Sorry this post has been all over this place, but I don't think this is a single-issue election. The reasons we need to get the repugs out of office are too numerous to mention.

What's really scary is the plan for America laid out by George Bush in a speech at the Citadel military college on Sept. 23, 1999, which neatly reflected the ideology of the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), a neoconservative institute formed in 1997 by The Nw Citizenship Project, under the direction of its president, Sen. John McCain. This speech was mirrored by a report that PNAC produced in Sept. 2000, "Rebuilding America's defenses: Strategy, Forces, and Resources for the New Century" (RAD). As noted by the authors of RAD, PNAC was based on the defense strategy outlined by Dick Cheney's Defense Department in the 1992 Defense Policy Guidance (DPG) at the end of the George H. W. Bush administration. The DPG also is known as the Wolfowitz Report . . . It is all too lengthy for this forum. Look it up. Bush did, however, speak of a global missile system, finding ways to control the Internet, the "bond of trust between the American president and the American military", etc. He also stated that the PNAC vision would not be brought to completion in his time, but would have to be carried on by a successor. It appears that successor would be John McCain, a principal founder of PNAC--and whose administration likely would consist of former PNAC officials and signatories--such as William Kristol, Robert Kagan, Randy Scheunemann, James Woolsey, John R. Bolton, Robert B. Zollick, Gary Schnitt, Richard Armitage, Max Boot and Michael Goldfarb. Look for faulty voting machines (again), my friends, on Nov. 4.

The American people do have

The American people do have more choices beyond the "candidates who offer no real choice beyond differing personalities rather than policies!" We are not obligated to vote the two main parties. There are other official candidates on the ballot running for President, as there have been in past elections, representing other parties with other platforms, some of which make better sense, have no connection to the Beltway (therefore, no obligations), better backgrounds, and have the wherewithal to offer us better leadership. They have been deemed worthy to be called on to comment on the news stations and have offered valid comments, but the media has chosen to pass over them for any competitive opportunities. They had no national platform to make their stand. They were not even given an equal time to speak in the primary debates. This is wrong! We do not have first and second class candidates. American needs a third party—maybe even a fourth or fifth so we can choose who we want from a better, more equitable playing field. We deserve to know about all of the candidates to be able to choose wisely. Perhaps if the voters had voted for someone other than the two big party candidates in the last two elections, we wouldn't have had to put up with mediocrity for the last eight years. Voting for "the lesser of the two evils" is ridiculous. If enough voters would vote their true choice from ALL of the candidates on the ballot we might carry enough weight to at least persuade the powers that be to at least give all the candidates an equal opportunity. At this critical economic time when folks are struggling to keep their homes and jobs, feed their families and basically keep things afloat, we have been barraged with millions of dollars worth of inane political ads from only two of the candidates running. The other 'invisible' candidates were not able to raise the money. Does the "candidate with the most money" win? Why hasn't there been a mandated lid on the budgets that limits the amount any candidate can spend? Better yet, why doesn't the media offer free equal time for each? Why are we allowing the media to slant the election coverage to feature the candidate of their choice, giving that candidate the competitive edge? This isn't a popularity contest, this is an election for the best candidate out of ALL those running, to be the President of the United States of America. We are in no way obligated to vote for the top two party candidates!

My fear in the twilight of

My fear in the twilight of this historic election is that we will have upheaval no matter what happens and what the results are. Notice I didn't say no matter "who wins". There remains in this country those archaic morons that think race undermines ability to lead. The other outcome will also result in an uprising by those who feel in their hearts (already broken hearts) that this election was stolen too. So either way, I predict we are in for it. Frankly, I think we have plenty of evidence that shows that voting and the other processes of our "democratic country" don't mean a thing. Those who think our democratic system is still in place and working had better wake up. It isn't and it doesn't.

Yeah, tomorrow, tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow...the gas/electric/food/rent/debt collectors will be baying like rabid wolves for their piece of you. Tomorrow the crisis of capitalism will continue to breed dislocation, war, greed, and mass suffering. Yes tomorrow holds a promise of a new day - but the empire called American interests, like the old British empire, never witnesses a sunset. With U.S. soldiers in over 150 countries, we wax euphoric that white America turned to a Dark face to bail them out of hard times and rebrand the historical insincerity exercised by a nation for over 300 years. Each day we live is inextricably linked to the past. Obama will have to reconcile the atrocities of a government without further alienating the bureaucracy of imperium and domestic fascists of the American police state. Yes tomorrow will be a new day, but not for those Blacks killed by racist and reactionary cops or for their families,not for those caught-up in the prison-industrial matrix, and surely not for the child in the Congo whose life expectancy is circumscribed by the accessibility to coltan. Yes tomorrow is the future, but we shouldn't get it twisted...none of us will get out of this life alive, so one should try and make difference while here.

His words so aptly describe how many of us have viewed the madness of the past 8 years. As of Nov. 5th we have "thrown off the yoke of the oppressor" of liberty, justice and decency.
