Based on calls by several major networks in the key battleground states of Ohio and New Mexico that they will fall into the win column for Obama, Truthout is predicting that Barack Obama has been elected the 44th president of the United States.

    More to come.

I certainly hope so!

I certainly hope so!

This is unbelievable! After

This is unbelievable! After all these years of being so disappointed, Finally we won! And North Carolina voters finally can make a difference. After voting here for 35 years, my vote finally counts.

If its finally true, USA and

If its finally true, USA and the world have to celebrate a strong hope

We can now re-join the world

We can now re-join the world with our heads held high.

Barack Obama is still part

Barack Obama is still part of the system, and the system needs a major overhaul. We need to change the status quo of "business as usual". This includes the ravaging of our natural resources, the raping of the middle class, and certainly the imperialistic tendencies, reaching years into our past, of the U.S. Will he be able to do this? More importantly, will he even attempt to do so? I'd like to be optimistic, but it remains to be seen. I have grave doubts....about these necessities, about our system, and even the survival of humanity in its current structure.

Welcome back, USA! So

Welcome back, USA! So exciting!

Thank God! It is truly an

Thank God! It is truly an incredible night in our history. Let's hope that our new government can deliver on all fronts. We need serious action, and I believe our new President will do his utmost to achieve what is best for all of us.

SWEET JUSTICE!

SWEET JUSTICE!

Could it be that the

Could it be that the Repulican regime is finally over..... The rest of the world can only hope.

A welcome change after 8

A welcome change after 8 years of crooked, arrogant, corrupt 'leadership"! Let us all hope that this is the end of the dominance of America by greedy, rich white men!

this day feels like History

this day feels like History congratulating itself.

After the dirty tricks of

After the dirty tricks of the past two elektions and expectations built by the polls, I couldn't watch the returns on TV. I sat here and watched an old movie. I checked my email and saw the news. What a relief!

A glorious moment in the

A glorious moment in the history of the US. But until Obama is safely in the White, House, I will not feel comfortable. A little noticed news piece reported that "3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team. Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, reported Army Times staff writer Gina Cavallaro, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North," which is assigned to the Department of Homeland Security. It used to against the law to deploy active duty army troops inside the US, but now it is just one more safeguard the NeoCons took away. See full article at Democracy Now. My concern - A coup d'etat by the NeoCons in the next 70 days based on a Rovian staged event.

WE HAVE OVERCOME

WE HAVE OVERCOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JOY!

JOY!

All my life I have wanted to

All my life I have wanted to vote for a true and decent leader. Now, our work truly begins.

This is truly historic.. We

This is truly historic.. We did it.. No to hatred.. No to bigotry.. YES to our country and our world.. I couldn't be more proud.. Welcome home president OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This wonderful victory has

This wonderful victory has come about because we the people of this country have begun to wake up and realize the democracy is a participatory government and for what we have been dreaming about an Obama presidency will come about only with our continued diligence and pressure on all lawmakers to bring about a government of, for and by the people. No longer can we be fearful of our leaders but it's time that we put fear of the people in the hearts of our leaders.

Well, McCain has conceded,

Well, McCain has conceded, and the celebrations can begin. I can scarcely believe it, Obama - PRESIDENT Obama - will be representing the US to the world. Intellectuals, stand proud, we no longer have to cringe in embarrassment as out elected leader takes his place among his peers. Thank God and Greyhound, Bush is gone!!!

Please remember to say thank

Please remember to say thank you to the unseen powers of Spirit, and God's Love and Grace that made all of this possible, even tho' in so many ways the opinion of the world said it could not be done. With God, with Spirit, all things are made possible. God Bless President Obama, God Bless America. Thank you Lord for this great Blessing you have helped us to manifest.

I'm so proud of the hard

I'm so proud of the hard work of Obama, Michelle, and the thousands of volunteers who never gave up and won this race with dignity. Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama!

This man has been a class

This man has been a class act since day one. I am prouder of my country than I have been for a very, very long time.

As one who marched for civil

As one who marched for civil rights int he 1960's, I am very proud of my country for voting for the man who had the best plan regardless of race, creed or color. Of course now the work begins... there is much to be done and I hope the rest of America will join in seeking the bipartisan solutions to our problems that will be necessary to get our economy, and our leadership position in the world, back on track.

As an expartriate living in

As an expartriate living in Bangkok, I can assure you we Americans here are sighing with great relief. The Bush nightmare will end and there will not be another Republican nightmare to replace it. Now, Pelosi, the feckless, virtually useless Speaker of the House had better put impeachment on the table. We need to impeach Bush and Cheney as soon as possible. That wimp Pelosi shouldn't be afraid any onger of her covert, special-interest handlers. Now she should be afraid of her fellow Democrats who will hopefully dethrone her in January. One does worry about the madness of W and Cheney. Very evil and sick people who know they are in for many criminal indictments and civil suits as soon as they leave office. One worries what such desperate people will do.

Phase I complete. Now on to

Phase I complete. Now on to Phase II: "The Venus Project". The time has come for REAL change. No more corrupt monetary-based society. The question is, "Does he have the courage to lead us in the direction of true survival of the planet"?

I once believed a Democrat

I once believed a Democrat elected after an abysmal Republican dynasty (Reagan-Reagan-Bush I) would lead to substantially more change that would fundamentally switch the course of the country. But years and years of research, reading alternative media like Truthout and others and watching the results of planning and policy demonstrate that anything goes. There are no guarantees regarding campaign promises, there are no major course changes, and setbacks are harder to overcome and even rarer to progress beyond. As President-Elect Barack Obama speaks to the hundreds of thousands gathered in Chicago's Grant Park, I am reminded that for every hope for change we have twice as many experiences that entrenched power will continue to serve power - fundamentally unchanged - absolutely. I wish us all the best of education and action, for it is only our action and voice that will continue to evaluate and apply the pressure that is the will of popular sovereignty. All power to all the peoples!

This is a mandate for

This is a mandate for change. Change is sorely needed -- in this country, in our world, in our world view, in our concensus paradigm of reality. There is an issue so difficult to address that it could not be addressed in the campaign. Now is the time for that issue to be addressed. Perhaps this president will have the philosophical temerity to address this issue, to end the truth embargo, to face the fundamental reality that we humans are not the only form of life in the universe. The ET Vote Now (dot org) movement has introduced an citizenry initiative for a National Department of Extraterrestrial Alliances. It is time we came together as a people, as a species and take our place in the cosmic community. The president-elect is an outstanding example of unity across party lines, generational lines, racial lines, ideological lines. He has it in his power to effect truly cosmic change.

Hope reigns eternal.

Hope reigns eternal.

YESSSSS!!!!!!!

YESSSSS!!!!!!!

From a small trade school in

From a small trade school in Lancaster Pa (early in the Campaign) Through all the great States of this Union, To the White House! I can once again believe in the power of the vote! No keating 5 !, The dirty tricks did not prevail! America has made it's voice heard! We want integrity, and a fair chance at the American Dream! A Country we can again be Proud of! and be a part of! htnusa

This resonates across the

This resonates across the world and 400 years through history. Congratulations to America for doing the Right Thing. Also - a nod to John McCain for a very classy concession.

Yea!!!! Finally Great

Yea!!!! Finally Great Joy!!!! YEAAAAAA!!!!!

For the first time in a long

For the first time in a long time, I'm proud of America.

Yes, we can! Yes, we did!

Yes, we can! Yes, we did! And now the work of patriotic courage by all of us begins in a very different way. I have always believed Barack Obama would be the best choice; I feared for him, but I never, ever stopped fighting for him. What an impeccable campaign and honest and hard fought win. I wish he grandmother had been able to see this day...I'm thrilled that I have. Onward!

Congratulations, America!

Congratulations, America! Can you hear the huge sigh of relief from north of the border? Can you hear the "Way to go!" from around the world? What a momentous thing you have done! The man you have chosen is a gem---cherish him.

Now my friends here in my

Now my friends here in my country, Australia will understand why I have always had affection for America. Whew! I am so impressed with this beginning,as are, according to the polls here last week, 80% of my fellow Australians. Welcome back!

WE hope for the best. I

WE hope for the best. I worry for Obama because of the white supremacist who can't accept that America has a black president. Hope not!!!!

I guess its true: God looks

I guess its true: God looks after children, drunks, simpletons and the United States of America.

The rainbow of faces at

The rainbow of faces at Obama's acceptance speech was an absolutely beautiful sight. I am once again proud to be an American!!!

In the immortal words of

In the immortal words of Grace Slick, "It's a new dawn."

Let us be gracious in the

Let us be gracious in the victory of our candidate and offer those who did not support him a place in this next chapter of American history. We need to get past the idea that to the winner goes the spoils. All U.S. citizens need to feel a part of this country or we will fall as short as those who have just preceded us.

My joy knows no bounds. To

My joy knows no bounds. To see that lovely family, victorious, on stage in Chicago brought me to tears. As an immigrant to this country 45 years ago, all I can say is THANK YOU to all the brave, loyal Americans who BELIEVED in President Obama and helped us to reclaim our country and our democracy! You are absolutely AMAZING! I have never been so proud. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I share the qualms of the

I share the qualms of the earlier writer about the brigade being deployed here under Homeland Security and the threat implied while Bush remains Commander-in-Chief. I also agree with the comment that Obama was a safer choice to continue the long established policies that maintain the immoral status quo.The greater evil threatened to upset that, plunging us over the brink much sooner. No question, Obama was the better choice.

The whole world is watching.

The whole world is watching. Truth, honesty and decency prevailed. For many months, myself and many many volunteers spread the word and the TRUTH. We talked to anybody and everybody who would listen in person, on the phone and over the internet. We showed the country that he could win a state like NC in the primary. On this important day I stood at the polls in western NC for six hours enduring the lies and filth that came out of the mouths of the McCain voters with dignity. One old man refused a sample democratic ballot saying, "I'm not a muslim". He and Palin encouraged that hatred and vitriol. I hope that she gets what she deserves from the Alaska voters. NC proudly elected these truly qualified women: We have a new Democratic Senator: Kay Hagan who defeated Bush rubber stamper Elizabeth Dole and Democrat Beverly Perdue will become North Carolina's first female governor . ...

Welcome back, America.

Welcome back, America.

Congratulations to President

Congratulations to President Obama, congratulations to all those who worked so hard for this day. WHAT A RELIEF!!!!

Thanks be to the Divine, the

Thanks be to the Divine, the new trend is set. Let's all add our energy to rolling in a new direction. Welcome to Planet Earth- the last rock in in this corner of the galaxy with any life left on it. May Spirit and Humanity finally get things together and make the Life Force the currency that matters. Prerequisites: 1.ignoring the silly gits who think Milton Friedmann knew anything about anything except what Rockefeller wanted, 2. knowing that human beings are worthy and wonderful whenever they're not hooked to some corporate insanity or self-indulgent b.s., and 3. knowing that all it takes to appreciate the planet we're blessed with is to look out a window.

I AM OVERJOYED THAT WE

I AM OVERJOYED THAT WE FINALLY HAVE AN INTELLIGENT, PEACEMAKER TO HELP BRING THE UNITED STATES TO A BETTER. MORE EVOLVED PLACE IN SO MANY AREAS. THANK ALL OF YOU WHO WORKED HARD TO HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN. THANK YOU OPRAH, GAYLE, MARIANNE WILLIAMSON. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOU.

I bid a not so fond farewell

I bid a not so fond farewell to the "Bradley effect." So nice to have an intelligent, articulate president for a change.

Am an American Expat living

Am an American Expat living abroad who has been too afraid to return to my country ruled by the Bush despot fascist dictatorship. Now, finally, after more than 8 years, I can come home again! FINALLY! Hurrah! Congratulations, Obama! Congratulations, freedom and democracy! No more waterboarding! No more police state! No more "no fly" lists, and no more stupid "Homeland Security". FINALLY a country I can once again recognize as approaching the one I grew up in.

Way to go America !!!!!

Way to go America !!!!!

This has to be one of the

This has to be one of the most satisfying days of my long life. Over the past Eight years..and specifically the last Four years.. I am sure that I have made quite a number of my friends and acquaintances most unhappy with me for my determined and unrelenting support of a young black man for President of these USA. I may have even helped some of them to see the light..even if they are too proud to ever admit it. But this man, named Barack Obama, is now Our President. He will never know how hard I have worked for him in the quiet of the day and night, even when my back hurt and my eyes refused to stay open. It has been worth it for now I have a President that I can be proud of. I will not have to cringe every time he opens his mouth to speak in our name. We finally have a President that the whole world can have trust in his word. A President that we can all Respect. We now have a President that will not Threaten the world with the power of our Arms. We now have a man that respects the peoples of every nation.

I am astounded that all this

I am astounded that all this emotion has been created by one MAN that took the hearts of America and is taking charge in making the change we need, to heal us, and bring us together. We can't let our guard down, as W and Dick head will try to steal the thunder, and take the air form our Sails. Watch out for another 9/11. If Pelosi don't take impeachment off the table now, she will have to answer to the people.

Actual dancing in the

Actual dancing in the streets happened in Seattle outside Cafe Racer in the U-District! Free at last! HOPE for the first time in eight looooong years!

Thank you to all of you

Thank you to all of you reading these columns who stood vigilant, trying to keep this election honest; who passed along important but stressing articles to friends in both parties so that the truth could be heard. And why am I humming that song "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" from the Wizard of Oz? Thanks for caring about this country by staying informed and by searching for the truth.

I am sure that he will never let us down.

It's so beautiful...like

It's so beautiful...like waking up from an eight year nightmare. We're back. Thanks Barak. You have called upon our better natures.

Finally we can look forward

Finally we can look forward into the light and have some hope for the future. i am less scared and more hopeful. the crowd in chicago looks amazing too every color every person unique, history has never looked so good well maybe since JFK. let's hope he does not have any negativity directed toward him. one of the happiest days of my life!

Congratulations America for

Congratulations America for electing a president who truly presents hope for the future. My mother, who passed away in 1995 and was born in 1907, would have loved to have seen this day. I feel that now my children and grandchildren really have a chance for a much brighter future based simply on what the American people have chosen to do today. I am refreshed and eager to see what is is I will be able to do myself to help my country, the world and my fellow humans.

Tonight that shining light

Tonight that shining light on the hill burns brighter than ever.

As I watched McCain concede,

As I watched McCain concede, the boos and some very disturbing nastiness ensued. Watching Obama accept and graciously compliment the great hero that McCain is, the Obama crowd cheered - Senator John McCain. I love this country. God be with the Obamas always. May their lovely family be strong and blessed by the people who love them - us.

The fight will never end, of

The fight will never end, of course, but tonight our democracy has been pulled back from the brink of disaster. A big thank you to everyone out there who voted for Obama and worked so hard to assure his victory! Yes we can!!

At last, an inspired and

At last, an inspired and truly democratically elected leader who believes in a single, unified human race. Despite our technology and collective consience, we are still stuck with an infantile, primitive need for a strong leader to follow. We abandon all responsability for human folly, blame our corrupt politicians, kings and religious leaders for human error, conflict, crime and destruction. This pyramid puts tremendous power and pressure on those placed precariously at the top. . Human destiny has also depended on our aspirations for immoortality. Over the centuries of recorded patriarchies, most of the world's potentially great leaders have been assassinated, deposed, enslaved or otherwise eliminated. No one man- or woman- has ever righted the wrongs of accumulated history, but there has to be a start. Here's hoping Obama's Amercian destiny - and that of humankind- will turn that millenial trend on it's head. Power to the people!

The greatest political

The greatest political moment I have witnessed in my life.

FAN - TAS - TIC !!! It

FAN - TAS - TIC !!! It was almost - too much to hope for: I've gotten old and bitter in recent decades turning cynical. THERE IS HOPE The task of UN-DOING the damage that the farces behind Bush and our corrupt congress have done - The Task is AWESOME. The most immediate objective should be - to USE the momentum and mandate that Obama has - at this time - to ROOT OUT the loop-holes in our laws that have allowed this MASSIVE CORRUPTION to nearly destroy our country. Villains must be charged and prosecuted to re-establish any credibility and trust in our government -- BECAUSE, Americans MUST KNOW that eight years of looting the treasury, the outright THEFT of our nations resources, like massive debt for generations to come AND TOTALLY UNWARRANTED USURPING OF POWERS TO DECLARE WAR TO FEED THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX AND the most dangerous of all, the DESTRUCTION OF AMERICAN RIGHTS GUARANTEED UNDER OUR (FORMERLY) SACRED CONSTITUTION which sets the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT up in a position to declare MARTIAL LAW and establish a totalitarian permanent DICTATORSHIP AT THE WHIM OF A MANIAC LIKE BUSH. In other Words, President Obama will need the strong SUPPORT of the AMERICAN PEOPLE in the next four, hopefully eight, years. AMEN grey

Congratulations to ALL of

Congratulations to ALL of the US citizens from Germany! We are truly fascinated with this turn of events! Everybody over here is happy like the proverbial pig in the mud. Finally, we can listen to a speech of the american president again without cringing in embarrassment! Welcome back to the world! To all those who have concerns about a possible coup d’état involving the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team: my son currently serves in this unit as master sarge. He's finally back home in Ft. Stewart, Ga. after doing 2 tours of duty in Iraq and he tells me he hasn't heard anything odd that would indicate such acts of treason currently being planned or implemented. Yes, it's true: the dirty movers and shakers behind the scenes wouldn't really discuss such acts of treason with a lowly non-comm –– but at the same time his job assignment puts him in a position to know ahead of all large scale deployments and major logistic events. While there has indeed been a training for parts of his unit involving non-lethal weaponry, crowd control tactics, and disaster relief work that isn't normally considered part of the duties of an Infantry unit (but rather that of the National Guard) it still looks like the next stop for the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team will be Afghanistan in early 2009.

my parents quit the country

my parents quit the country in 2000 when everyone said they would and only a few did. tonight, I had the pleasure of informing them we had truly begun restoring the country we love. I am so blessed to be a voice in the chorus for change

Words cannot adequately

Words cannot adequately express my deepest thanks to all who worked so hard for making this message of real hope and necessary change to be the leading force for our nation. Please also take a quiet moment to remember those who paid dearly during these long, painful, horrible past eight years.

In Cairo, we watched the

In Cairo, we watched the Chicago festivities on early morning TV. Today we are specially proud to be Americans living abroad. We sang for Obama and voted for him and now we will sing and hope for a world that may achieve more peace and tolerance and understanding and opportunity because this President-to-be will be leading the way.

We've lived with a dunce in

We've lived with a dunce in the White House for eight long years. A man who had every opportunity to enrich his life with trips to museums, opera houses, concert halls, musical theatre venues, great sport events, travel opportunities, etc. But his poor undeveloped brain would not call him to take the opportunities to enlighten himself. He instead high-tailed it back to God-awful Crawford as often as he could. Imagine that we have lived under this kind of "leadership" for ninety-six months. Now imagine the next four (or eight) years under the leadership of a man who pulled himself up from the most humble beginnings to become President of the Harvard Law Review, learned to speak so well that he can hold an audience in the palm of his hand, who became a constitutional law professor at the prestigious Univ. of Chicago, and who put together what many consider the best organized political campaign in U. S. history. This country will get it all back together now.

What a relief and what a

What a relief and what a great joy that Obama and his beautiful family will be in the White House. Hopefully an independent investigation into 9/11 will now be allowed from the many Truth Movement people. Just to know that we don't have to look at George Bush's face anymore is a blessing! Marcia

I think this is a victory

I think this is a victory for Democracy, a big one at that. I didn't believe that Obama can win in USA. There is hope and hopefully some future. - Ram, India

YESSS! I am glad to have a

YESSS! I am glad to have a chance at a new beginning after 8 very awful years...

I continue to be surprised

I continue to be surprised by the fact that many people still believe that Bush was the one calling the shots during the last 8 years. He was most certainly not the "decider" - that was all being done for him by his puppetmasters. Now with Obama, we can only hope that he pulls his own strings.

Yes, this is a great moment

Yes, this is a great moment where a great shift is happening. But let us not lose perspective for a moment that this is just step 1. We have to stay involved and pursue the issues--and keep pressure on the entire gov't, including Barack. Let's not forget his stance is actually quite centrist and he hasn't really disagreed with the right on many things! He supported FISA, Patriot Act, NAFTA, the Wall Street Bailout and he is not standing up for Palestinians. He has not been clear about getting out of Iraq, staying out of Iran. I'm visualizing Divine inspiration for him. Namaste.

Now it is "Yes we

Now it is "Yes we did".. where were you on this day,at this time? I was in a taxi in Melbourne Australia an d I shall never forget the moment when I thought "Thank God". Best Rick

It's a hopeful change, but

It's a hopeful change, but only a glimmer of hope. Voting was the easy part. The real work lies ahead. Obama did what it took to get elected, now he needs to do what it takes to stay in power. The apathy, ignorance, greed, and childishness of the US population is legendary. Will we comfort ourselves with petty addictions and distractions and bask in the hopeful glow of our new father figure, or will we wake up to take our government back from the corporate imperialists? The fact that this election apparently turned on economic fears does not bode well for the long-suffering victims of US aggression. Fears of falling 401Ks do not constitute a lasting change of values. If we the people don't wake up and act, there's little Obama can do.

Only the beginning. May the

Only the beginning. May the real work begin.

I can't quit crying, I'm so

I can't quit crying, I'm so happy and relieved. This has been soooo long in coming, and not a minute too soon. I was terrified we would either just barely lose, leading to another post-election nightmare of lawsuits and recounts or just barely win, also leading to same. I'm SO glad so many people saw through the Rovian mud-slinging and voted their conscious for a better world for all of us. I am glad to be back in the world again, thank you. Ahhhhh... now I can sleep without fear. Thanks to ALL who helped in every way. He said "Yes, we can". And, we did. Right on!

The crowd surged on to Cedar

The crowd surged on to Cedar Avenue in the West Bank area of Minneapolis tonight. Somali women in flowing scarves, white guys with dreadlocks pushed up into knit caps, young guys with neat beards and pork pie hats, a woman drummed on an overturned plastic bucket and a skinny fellow played the yellow plastic newspaper kiosk, hundreds dancing shouting laughing. The cops kept people out of the middle of the street, and the crowd cooperated by letting traffic pass and waiting for the walk light to cross. What a change from the RNC when they hide between ninja turtle suits, arrested and charged people with felony riot for dancing in the streets. Inside Palmer’s Bar, ancient Cornbread Harris jammed with Cadillac Kolstad sang, there’s a Riot Goin’ On.. The air was soft and warm, the sky full of stars. What a difference a day makes.

It's an incredible moment,

It's an incredible moment, but President Obama has his work cut out for him. A Polish proverb comes to mind: It is easier to make a pig into sausage than sausage into a pig.

My faith in humanity and

My faith in humanity and democracy is restored! Congratulations America on making the right decision. You have no idea how much it means to the rest of the world.

Years from now I want to be

Years from now I want to be able to savor this sweet victory and the role! After so many cruel defeats it is truly delicious.!

Congratulations to

Congratulations to President-elect Obama's millions of volunteers who got him to this point Also, applause to McCain for an exceptionally gracious concession speech.

From 2002 to 2007, as the

From 2002 to 2007, as the section head for US history in a large independent book store, I was continuously disheartened by the apocalyptic nightmares of Bush's foreign policies, presidential blunders, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Every acclaimed book that came in was highly critical, for good reason, including all the exposes written by former White House staff and advisers. Now tonight, Obama's election gives me hope, and a deep sense of relief. In celebration, I attended a house party with friends, then a street party (with dancing and shouting) in the Castro District of San Francisco. I also rode through the streets of Berkeley honking and yelling as everyone around me (many races and ethnicities) joined in. A truly unifying moment. Let's see if we all can turn this mess of a country around, by reaching for life together, rather than death and destruction. The wars must end, it seems, with those tax monies redirected into health care, social security, and education. And to reduce our hypocrisy, we can do better things for Iraqis, and for their infrastructure and government, by not carrying out a war against them (a war begun over since-discredited reasons, to oust a dictator who has since been executed.) I do fear that Obama might be reluctant to undo some of the systemic governmental abuses legalized during the War on Terror, including the loss of civil liberties and human rights under new protocols of surveillance, detainment, and Homeland Security. Yet I really hope he's willing to reduce these controls, lest "change" and "peace" be empty intentions on his part. I hope, I hope, I hope he can.

I remember the hope that I

I remember the hope that I felt when Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, hope that soon turned into abject disappointment and that led me to vote against him in 1996, against his minion, Al Gore in 2000, and against his wife, Hillary Clinton during the 2008 presidential primary elections. While Obama was clearly a better choice than McCain (in the same way that Clinton was a better choice than Bush back in 1992) I don't have very high expectations for Obama and doubt he'll accomplish very much. I expect he'll throw away his opportunities to affect positive change, damage the Democratic Party, and break my heart the way that Bill Clinton did.

Tears of JOY fill my eyes.

Tears of JOY fill my eyes.

Actually, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Actually, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Amen. Not since the '70's

Amen. Not since the '70's have I dared to invest this kind of hope in America. This has been much more than an election for millions of people around the globe. Thank-you to everyone that helped make it happen.

Last night, God Blessed

Last night, God Blessed America

Congratulations to all of us

Congratulations to all of us for the hard work = grass roots type, which succeeded in electing a rare candidate - a principled, intelligent and eloquent man. . We now have the opportunity to have our civil liberties and rights restored, , to hold those accountable who perpetrated illegal actions , and to be ever vigilant in realizing that the election has been won, but the battle to restore democracy and return the government to the people has just begun. We must all keep our eyes on the prize for there will surely be efforts to obstruct, delay , criticize the agenda of OBAMA to improve the lives of working people through more equitable tax laws, creating jobs through sustainable energy projects, providing decent affordable health care, winding down the war, making education and housing available to all - that is quality and affordable. Capitalism is still capitalism but the changes to be made will protect ordinary people and restore the quality of life to the masses and help reduce the inequities that have been created. HOORAY! ADELANTE! t We have won victory but the hard work has just begun.

Congratulation America,

Congratulation America, enjoy, enjoy- and wake up! The great leader has done his job, now it is our task to change the things.

In Venezuela, we elected a man of color as president ten years ago: it took the US some time to catch up, but we are hopeful that the opportunity will not be wasted. In this country the right of the poor to vote is protected instead of attacked. Congratulations!

Change for a better world he

Change for a better world he will deliver!

I am ecstatic to have Obama

I am ecstatic to have Obama as our next president. His desire to unite people gives me hope, not only the United States, but the world. He is a visionary, who is respectful, wise, and skilled. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought so hard for justice and civil rights. I see Obama as a beacon of light for justice for all people. I am filled with gratitude and joy.

When Jimmy Carter became

When Jimmy Carter became President I was worried because he had come from nowhere. And - to paraphrase Gertrude Stein - in American politics there is no nowhere there. Like Carter, Obama got an enormous amount of corporate money and was backed by some of the most repressive elements in the world. This is not the time to sit back and wait ... this is the time to help create a genuinely participatory democracy. -- Hey, America it's time to leave the couches behind [ie., move your behinds off the couches] and get it done. The fate of the world is really in our hands. I genuinely believe that this is a guy who can listen. SO COMMUNICATE!

It's like a dream come true.

It's like a dream come true. I implore all of us to keep Obama and government in our prayers. We MUST support him with all we have. Now we have the opportunity to have integrity and ethics in our government. A friend of mine says: "Republicans rule by authority. Democrats govern." I can't wait to be governed!!!!!!

The interesting thing to me

The interesting thing to me is that 131 million registered voters actualluy activated thier right to vote. This is about 65 per cent of the voting public. Now, the work begins. We shall see what the Senate and the Congress does and hopefully, they will follow thier constituency. And don't forget the Supreme Court and the newly elected state representatives - they too must keep the higher law of a democratic value in heart and mind - which comes from us - the population: " ...of the people, for the people and by the people."

Eternal vigilance is the

Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. Let's celebrate our President-Elect and let's keep his feet to the fire - along with the feet of Pelosi and Reid and their House and Senate colleagues. The work is only beginning to be begun, and they need to hear from the people, early and often - about economy, education, environment, health, and above all the high crimes & misdemeanors of the outgoing gang. The latter cannot be swept under the rug. Those who do not pay attention to the crimes of the recent past are likely to see them repeated.

He is a phenomenon. I could

He is a phenomenon. I could not help but shed tears when I listen to this victory speech. God bless America!

Not only America elected a

Not only America elected a new president. Yesterday the entire world elected a President and leader!!! Power is given by the people and the world has certainly given Barack Obama the mandate to lead HUMANITY into a new, more inclusive, future. This inclusive future does not only mean humans, it means nature as well. Congratulations!!! Hope won over fear!!!

Our world WILL BE a safer

Our world WILL BE a safer place because we now have a President who has the qualities of leadership like no other before him. I know he will bring relief to many who have suffered and will bring promise to our land and abroad. His leadership and friendship with our foes will melt their hearts and save us All.

And I awoke to a Black

And I awoke to a Black President. He, too, sings America.

This is our wake up call!

This is our wake up call! This is our chance to be heard! This is our chance to roll up our sleeves and do something good for our country! This election signals the demand for participation. There is no room for complacency. We elected Barack, now let's get behind him and make this great nation great once more, from the ground up, like he taught us!

Listening to fragments of Mr

Listening to fragments of Mr Obama's speech this morning, I thought back to the anti-Goldwater slogans magic-markered onto my school binders in 1964. It's taken 44 years for whoever-has-to-realize to realize that the standard-issue predictions about the neocon unleashing of greed would have the same results that the unleashing of greed had in the 1880's and 1920's, and every other time its been tried, all the way back to the bloody hijinks of the Assyrians at the dawn of consciousness. The Prophet Amos warned folks then and it's imperative to keep on warning them that you can't successfully run a society either by force or by sneaking and cheating.

Now we must work together to

Now we must work together to restore what has been stolen from us and stop the last ditch effort by the Bush administration and the corporatocracy to install a police state and eviscerate what is left of our constitution. We must be vigilant over these next few months until inauguration day and forever afterward. Let's work together to restore the constitution and bill of rights. Let's never go down this path again – never, ever, again!!! See Bush’s final agenda: http://www.truthout.org/103108A See links below: First Australia, now the EU and US Internet Censorship to follow: Ralph Nader said millions of dollars were given to Microsoft in the Wall Street Bailout bill. Now, that wehave made a

Now, that wehave made a definite change in the White House and, hopefully, the congress, it is time for WE< The People to start to work. For eigt years, due to our apathy, we have bcame "Wee, the people". There is one Obama, He will need the bulk of Three hundred million americans to aid him, or he will fail in this giagantic task of saving this country, and the world.

This not only a repudiation

This not only a repudiation of 8 years of failure but also the so-called Reagan Revolution and the administrations that followed. Take it a couple of steps even further: The promise set forth by Senator Robert Kennedy's 68' campaign is once again on track. Liberalism seemingly could not recover following an assassin's bullet and Nixon gang... But liberalism has found new life in 2008. We are back and must stay resilient . The Right must never take our American identity from us again

Dear Barack Obama: You know

Dear Barack Obama: You know whose shoulders you are standing on, and they are not ours, but those who struggled before: MLK Jr, Rosa Parks, the lunch counter students, the unnamed bus boycotters by the thousands. My black brother Julio and his family were at the polls in Virginia at 6:00 AM. It means so much to me to hear the hope in his voice. Julio's wife Daphane said to me at the last election: don't expect us to get all excited at election time. The politicians are all over us when they want our vote, and then they drop us like a hot potato for another 4 years. Not this time. P.S. My ten-yr old daughter Celia got a call back from one woman in Nevada. She had forgotten to vote on her way home from work. She called from her cell phone on her way to the polls to thank Celia for reminding her to cast the most historic vote of her lifetime. Celia felt so good about being able to really help. She will never forget it. THIS spirit of working together, of working for what you believe in, is the real message of Barack's election. Let us never fall into complacency again. The devil has shown us what nasty work he has for idle hands (minds) to do for the last 8 years of "just go shopping". Never again. God bless America for waking up! Here is the poem my ten year-old daughter recited as she called over 30 voters in Nevada and Missouri: If honest folk get in a mess The Feds they will not bail us, We have a chance to vote for CHANGE, Nevada (Missouri, New Hampshire, etc.) please don't fail us! Our families with two worker bees are struggling to get by, The kids are moving right back in--Don't vote for the Keating Five! We're sick of yellow, red alerts and Cheney hiding out, It's time for real diplomacy, and brains behind the clout. So vote for Obama And life will be calmer.

The post that said, simply:

The post that said, simply: "I awoke to a Black president; he, too sings America" put so succinctly exactly what I felt today, November 5th, 2008. I'm a middle-aged white woman who has almost completely calcified into a Cynic; for decades I've watched the greedy neo-cons take and kill and destroy. Hope was almost entirely gone when Barack ran for President. Many times I considered running away - France, Canada, anyplace where basic decency is still practiced . . . Now, America becomes that place again. My Lord! What a morning!

"Nuf said about our huge

"Nuf said about our huge relief. I just hope that when it gets down to the nitty gritty, when the reality of the economic disaster deliberately created by neocons in order to take down those nasty with social programs the help ordinary people stay afloat, when it takes awhile to gear up to deal with rampant un- and under-employment, when corporate forces do their worst to hold onto the fascist state that has had its heel on our necks for so many years--I just hope that people will continue to support Obama with real effort and commitment. Cleaning up after the Gadarene swine will be an extremely difficult and lengthy process. Chins up, folks. We're in for a real time of change, and it will take all of us to effect change under the circumstances.

Now, for the first time

Now, for the first time since 2000, I can feel proud to be an American again. Thanks to all who got involved, to those who voted their hopes and not their fears.

The ET Vote Now movement has introduced an citizenry initiative for a National Department of Extraterrestrial Alliances. It is time we came together as a people, as a species and take our place in the cosmic community. The president-elect is an outstanding example of unity across party lines, generational lines, racial lines, ideological lines. He has it in his power to effect truly cosmic change. Change this one perception and you influence in a positive manner the rest of the issues we face. One hopes the President Elect has the wisdom to realize that and the courage to act on it.

Good show for Obama winning

Good show for Obama winning the election. This is clearly better for America than an election won by McCain. But lets take the rose-colored glasses off and look at some sobering realities and possibilities. As the famous quote says - "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance". We must continue our vigilance focused on the NeoCONs, who are in fact America's most dangerous enemy. We cannot rule out a NeoCON engineered event that might allow Bush/Cheney to declare martial law prior to Obama's inauguration. We also cannot rule out an attempt at a coup d'etat like that which was attempted on FDR many years ago. The Democrats must maintain vigilance against enemies within its own ranks (Pelosi, Reid, etc.). Once in power, Obama must immediately initiate a radical purge of all NeoCONs within our Government. He must also eliminate all influence from religious fundamentalists in our Government, particularly DOD (religious fundamentalists are tools of the NeoCONs). Energy independence is a goal worthy of pursuing, but if this is done without the energy majors being involved, then this will be tantamount to declaring open war on the NeoCONs/Fascists/Corporatists, with unpredictable results. NeoCON involvement also exists within the framework of the two wars (occupations) we are currently embroiled in, the Global War on Terror (GWOT), and the current financial crisis. Solving these major problems will unavoidably mean having to bang heads with the NeoCONs. This is why the NeoCONs must be removed from all positions of influence. Obama had to make deals with interests in order to even have a shot at the presidency (just like any other president). We need to determine who those deals were made with, and how this will affect his policies once in office. If he made deals that he goes back on once in office, then we could see another repeat of what happened to JFK, and most of us don't want that.

I am admiring your new

I am admiring your new leader. He seems correct for the times and obviously for the people. I once drove route 66, and have always known Americans as a kind, trusting, happy and gregarious people full of spirit, heart and compassion, whom love their freedom, peace, prosperity and good government (Whom among us does not?). I was dismayed upon witnessing the dupe played out which brought America into another dirty war, this time, in Persia. The example set invoked a terrified response world wide, as the arms of America reached out to grapple with her new found foes, (I still wish I could have taken delivery of all that French wine and cheese that was tossed and flushed!). It has been nothing less than surreal to view a country that has historically ensconced the rights and personal freedoms of it's citizens become degraded and dejected; broke($) but not broken. Enter the new leader! Sure and living out his higher self through his powers of intellect and oration (Refreshing would be an understatement). Now is the time for everyone to live in our higher selves because... yes we can manifest a higher destiny. That is how it is done, simply manifest a higher destiny, as all those whom have entered the fray since the beginning of the struggle between good and evil. Congratulations America!

Neo-cons, liberals,

Neo-cons, liberals, religious right.....the task before President elect Barack Obama is to eliminate the opportunity men who operate within the ranks of both parties and all ideologies to take America back. The outsourcing of our intelligence to organized crime, foreign intelligence services, and the incompetent and unsupervised military industrial complex has allowed the erosion of our Constitution and democracy. If Americans take a hard look at the way we have been subverted, it was done in the same way syndicated organized crime takes over a city: from law enforcement services on up, and UP is where these guys have risen. The CIA and FBI, once agencies of integrity are corrupted to the point of being totally ineffective if not incompetent: one need look no further than 911 for confirmation of that fact. Congress has allowed the "intelligence community's" to operate with no oversight, which has allowed and expanded corrupt relationships among opportunity peddlers to thrive - to the detriment of our national security, but not to worry, the same who caused the problem will head the investigations and information will be withheld from the people so they are not embarrassed or held accountable. The CIA needs to get out of our states, get out of the drug business, get out of the business of overthrowing regimes that displease one particular man at one particular point in time only to replace him with someone even worse and get back into the business of intelligence gathering. Our courts need to get back to the business of administering justice, even when it is unpleasant and politically inconvenient because the truth does matter. Until we have leaders who are not so beholden to the "Safari Club" type intelligence apparatus's of the world, nothing will change for the better. The President cannot effect this on his own, but needs Congress and needs the people. If we do not remain engaged in the process but continue to allow our Congressional leaders to lie, cheat, steal, and cover up for their pals who lie, cheat, steal.... we'll lose everything. It takes several generations to build a democracy, but only one generation to destroy one. We're at a crossroads here and democracy is in the crosshairs. The question is not what President Obama will do, but is "What will you/we do?"

Every citizen who cares

Every citizen who cares about ensuring that America keep on the path to enlightenment and progressive ideas should vow to encourage everyone they know to shun the GOP and vote rarely, if ever for Republicans and to do so based solely on local issues. Clearly these people cannot govern at the national level and are too corrupt and inept to be trusted with the keys to either the Treasury or the White House ever again.

Barack Obama deserves

Barack Obama deserves celebration for managing to become the first man of color elected President. I unhesitatingly congratulate him too. But Barack Obama did not simply become President because he is a skilled orator who exudes leadership. He has been vetted and contributed to by those whose stranglehold on the money-power of America could decide who was elected. Moreover, his views had consistently moved rightward as the campaign unfolded, gathering in undecideds and independents along the way. No loose cannon was he, and the rock star productioneering gave him a winning mantle, except for the presumptuous new, light blue, "presidential" seal that was designed for him on the campaign trail. And his vote for one $700 billion giveaway to corrupt financial institutions, his vote to damage the 4th Amendment to the Constitution, his commitment to stand by Israel no matter what terror they rained down on neighboring lands, his oft-ridiculed position that he would incur on Pakistani soveriegnty if he felt like it, to attack terrorists, all add up to a one-upped Clinton "liberalism" that isn't liberal at all. Of course Barack Obama has an opportunity here now that the campaign is over. When Barack Obama decides, under weight of all manner of politically motivated advisers who are triangulating and parsing words, whether to be expeditious or whether to do what is right by Americans who populate this nation not as voters, "occupants", or taxpayers, but as owners, facilitators, empowerers, supporters, cultivators, and educators, let Barack Obama remember that he was once an acorn, and was brought up by the Americans he will soon serve as President. Anything less from this front page celebrity of state will label him as complicit in the continued downward spiral which marks our current path. When is being positive a negative? When it is in denial of the truth.

Love the president-elect.

Love the president-elect. Hate the fact that he wants to keep joe the traitor.

We all have to be grateful

We all have to be grateful to a nation that gave us the opportunity for life, liberty and happiness. But our host is now in trouble and it is payback time. Most Americans have always had a decent standard of living and should patriotically accept a raise in taxes. Those who never paid taxes can also have a chance to help the nation. Working as a community service worker would be the payback. Some of their many tasks would be to place the homeless and other unfortunates in millions of empty bedrooms. Our nation has many problems but together we shall overcome, and give back to a nation that gave us so much.
