A Palin Theocracy

John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate has invigorated a lackluster campaign. The media can't stop talking about her. Given McCain's age and state of health (his medical file was nearly 1,200 pages long), Palin would indeed be a heartbeat away from becoming president. But what would a Palin administration really look like?

Palin is a radical, right-wing, fundamentalist Christian who would love to create a theocracy. She believes we are living in the "end times" which will result in a bloody inferno from which only true Christians will be saved. Palin recently attended a service in her Wasilla Bible Church run by David Brickner, who runs Jews for Jesus, a group the Anti-Defamation League criticizes for its "aggressive and deceptive" proselytizing of Jews. Those who don't accept Jesus as their savior will burn in Hell, according to Palin's brand of theology.

As governor of Alaska, Palin asked her congregation to pray for the natural gas pipeline, which she characterized as "God's will." She thinks the war in Iraq is a "task that is from God." Palin has pushed for creationism to be taught in schools, and she opposes stem cell research.

Palin's choice to have a Down syndrome child and her teenage daughter's choice to continue her pregnancy have made right-wing evangelical Christians ecstatic. But while she chose pregnancy, Palin would deny a woman victimized by rape or incest the right to choose abortion, and then criminally punish both the woman for having one and her doctor for performing it.

McCain would also love to inject a heavy dose of Christianity into his administration. A year ago, he declared, "The Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation." Just about the only issue on which McCain has not flip-flopped is his opposition to abortion rights. The next president will almost certainly make at least one appointment to the Supreme Court. McCain has pledged to appoint judges in the mold of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito; these would also be Palin's preferred judges. Another conservative on the court would mean that Roe v. Wade would be overruled. That would return us to back-alley abortions with coat hangers.

Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, said that "this election is not about issues ... This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates." The Republicans know they will lose if they really focus on issues such as the economy, the war, healthcare, education and the environment. They are hoping that pro-choice women who supported Hillary Clinton will gravitate to Palin because she's a feisty - albeit anti-choice - woman. They are also banking on support from people who cannot bring themselves to vote for a black man.

But those non-evangelicals who back the McCain-Palin ticket do so at their peril. Not only will they continue to suffer four more years of the disastrous Bush policies; they will also find themselves living in a Christian theocracy.

For those misguided and

For those misguided and brainwashed folks who actually believe that Revelations is relevant, they should read that book. In it, it states that no one shall know when the end times are coming. Certainly and logically, this means that no one can predict it and therefore know that we are in them or not. But then neither the Bible nor fundamentalist KKKhristians are logical. What a kontinuing krock of krap.

McCain has USED Palin to

McCain has USED Palin to counteract Hillary Clinton's electoral defeat by Obama and not being selected as Obama's VP. McCain & his advisers obviously knew Obama and the Democrats would be accused of sexism and of religious bias if they attacked Palin in anyway. Yet the Republicans have attacked Obama on both sides--his religion (pastor/muslim) and sexism (non-choice of Hillary/lipstick & pigs). In this sense McCain's choice of Palin is USING HER as a tool in manipulative, insidious, and a reverse form of sexism and religious bias.

RFK Jr. posits that the

RFK Jr. posits that the Council on National Policy is responsible for the selection of Sarah Palin -- not McCain himself. The CNP would not guarantee its support without it, and McCain needed the evangelical vote or he would lose the election. Anyway, read 'em and weep -- this is who is running the country.

Will Palin Go "Full Retard"

Will Palin Go "Full Retard" ? "Palin also said she had some "insight" into Russia because "they are our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska." But she acknowledged that she had never met a foreign head of state." 'Tropic Thunder' Advice: Nobody Goes Full Retard

Unfortunately, the McCain

Unfortunately, the McCain campaign is correct: the election is not about issues (at least not first and foremost), and the Democrats better learn that if they hope to win. The election *IS* about a list of referenda such as: is the US ready to elect a black man as president, is the US really not interested in issues, is the US really not interested in bald-faced lies that are beyond distortion of facts, does the US really not care about the fact that the media isn't doing anything, has it really not gotten *that* bad yet, etc

Sarah Palin is the new media

Sarah Palin is the new media darling: the new Anna Nicole Smith; the new Britney Spears. Palin's handlers won't let her on the serious news shows like Meet the Press, where she'd actually have to answer real questions about her dismal "executive" experience as a book-banning, deficit-spending mayor and earmark-happy governor. Instead, they book her on infotainment shows where she can lie without question and trumpet her accomplishments as hockey mom and moose killer to the fawning press. How anyone in this country can vote Republican after all they've perpetrated since 1968 absolutely mystifies me. Maybe we deserve a theocracy, for certainly this country is going to hell.

So, if she wants a Religious

So, if she wants a Religious Theocracy, and believes that the Bible is literally true, I have a question: Will she have the men of Wassilla stone her daughter to death for having sex out of wedlock while still living in her father's house, or will she burn her daughter instead for being with child out of wedlock? I know that stuff is in the Bible, but I must have missed the part where God wants a natural gas pipeline through Alaska. Is that in one of those suppressed books of the Bible, or was that Divine Revelation to a secret Prophet? Anyway, I think we should all pray for her to make the right decision. As the Bible says, you must drive the evil from among you. A heartbeat away from the nuclear trigger, and a fervent desire for the end times. YEEE-HAAA! Yup, that's a good reason to vote for her...

"There will be wars and

"There will be wars and rumors of wars, but the end is not yet." -LIBERAL HOGWASH! So, if Governor Palin wants a Religious Theocracy, and believes that the Bible is literally true, I have a question: Will she have the men of Wassilla stone her daughter to death for having sex out of wedlock while still living in her father's house, or will she burn her daughter instead for being with child out of wedlock? I know that stuff is in the Bible, but I must have missed the part where God wants a natural gas pipeline through Alaska. If these f***ing idiots end

If these f***ing idiots end up in the White House, I'm planning to leave the country.

Maybe it's just an emotional

Maybe it's just an emotional day. But to me, this is the quintessential issue of this, and all campaigns. Once in awhile we have to reiterate and focus on what we're fighting for. Freedom, plain and simple. We must vigorously protect and defend the rights of all people, whether they believe in an interested or disinterested deity, or if they don't. We must always, as a core belief and principle, vigorously protect and defend the right of all people to believe and think what they please and to live as they please. And we must vigorously protect every person's right to express those beliefs, disagree with others who express theirs in turn. But we should not, ever, not once, ever, favor one belief over another. This idea, that people can think and do as they please and not be oppressed while doing so is exhilarating. It is why this country is a beacon and a symbol the world over and why so many people want to be here, and why so many have come. Our founders somehow came upon the single most powerful concept in the history of civilization. It is not complicated and it cannot be diluted. It should be defended in every way, all the time, by everyone who values their own rights. If there is a litmus test for any candidate, judge or anyone else that holds power over others, this is it.

One thing the conservatives

One thing the conservatives need to think about is that if they manage to overturn Roe v. Wade, what would be the sentence be for the "crime" of abortion? Stoning? death? something milder? And for whom? the female defendant? the provider? both? They need to put this forward as part of their "reform" so that we the people know the consequences. And then they need to think about how small our planet is and how large our population is.

The irony is sad. "The

The irony is sad. "The media can't stop talking about her." The non-neocon's can't stop talking about her and this article is more of the same. You are playing right into your opponents hands. Ignore her!

I would love to see the

I would love to see the Obama campaign frame itself to saying "No More Fundamentalists!"

I believe that there are a

I believe that there are a lot of people out there who don't want to directly face the fact they don't want a black man to win the presidency. Palin gives them their brand of plausible deniability. If after 8 years of the Bush disaster and Republican complicity so many people were still undecided before Palin entered the scene, racism was at the heart of it. Now, America doesn't have to vote anti-black; it can vote for Palin. That is why Palin is fanatically more popular than McCain.

I think everyone should read

I think everyone should read Between Jesus and the Market: The Emotions That Matter in Right America by Linda Kintz to find out what it is that the Palin theocrats are appealing to.

I am a retired pastor

I am a retired pastor (Presbyterian) who is very frightened of a possible theocracy. No, the founding fathers did not establish the United States as a Christian nation, although some of them certainly tended in that direction. How people can read the first amendment, and especially Jefferson’s explanation of its meaning, and not get the point is beyond me. The article said that abortion rights is just about the only issue on which McCain has not flip-flopped. I thought he used to be pro-choice, but perhaps I am mistaken.

Has anyone paused to think

Has anyone paused to think that just perhaps Hillary did not want to be VP ?? I wonder when the elephants will realize that they have sacrificed a possible long term result for a short term gain. Palin will be dropped like yesterday's sandwich when the election is over. The hard knocks are yet to come === this whole thing has Rove's fingerprints all over it. The Prince of Darkness is still rolling in the gutters.

There is only one thing

There is only one thing certain, and that is the arrival of Nibiru! Not one government around the world is being forthcoming on the coming cataclysm . This is completely wrong! We should all be given the chance to find safety. They only want to save themselves. Personally I hope we are saved and they will be the ones sealed in their "safe Places" and never be heard from again. Be satisfied with this thought, they can't take it with them, whatever they do. If they truly think they are following Christian love, I can say for certain, that is not what I have found in the Bible. You cannot hoard the financial ability that could feed and house the masses of people. That is evil! Therefor Queen Elisabeth 2nd, and all the others within the Royal families, the Rockefellers, the Rothchilds, Chases, Morgans, etc., etc. The VATICAN is the top of the list. For hundreds of years the citizens of Vatican City has lived in luxury will they guilted the members of Catholicism into giving money into collection plates instead of putting food on the tables in front of the children demanded of them to birth and raise. I truly hope that during the "Passing of Nibiru" that when the "pole shift" happens that the Vatican will be buried by a volcano, sweet revenge for the hurt children of the world.

Palin didn't actually say

Palin didn't actually say that the war against Iraq is a "task that is from God". Strictly speaking, she only "prayed" that "our leaders" are sending our military out on such a task. She elaborated on this in her first TV interview, with Charlie Gibson pitching her softballs: she was careful to align herself with Lincoln about trying to be on God's side instead of claiming that God's on our side. However, she's more sure about the gas pipeline being "God's will". So, although she obviously thinks in terms of connecting her policy preferences with her notions of "God's will", we need to be precise in each instance about just how far she goes in each pronouncement. Preciseness cuts both ways for the McCain-Palin Faith Ticket. Although McCain rightly reserves certain parts of his religious life to the private sphere, he publicly identifies himself as a Southern Baptist. Yet he's never undergone the adult baptism by immersion, as his wife has, that's required for membership in his church in Phoenix. His infant Episcopalian baptism doesn't count with them. So, to be precise, he attends a Baptist church but isn't a "member". If he's going to talk about his "membership" in public, then it's legitimate to ask why he misrepresents himself this way. If faith is held to be important in the public square, then clarity about it is important, too.

Palin's daughter's pregnancy

Palin's daughter's pregnancy should be #1 issue. I would ask Palin if the GOP/Christian theory of abstinence really seems sensible to her as the only acceptable and legal form of birth control. I would ask Palin what it is about her Christian "family values" that led to her own daughter's promiscuity. It may seem cruel, but they are valid questions. Palin is a ruthless uncaring fundamentalist prolife zealot and we have a right to know how one who has so failed in her own life and family can presume to make the birth decision for every woman in America. koolmuse anonymousource.com

Proclaiming the name of God

Proclaiming the name of God does not justify breaking His commandments. This is part of the calculated deception of the evil one. One is more likely to "burn in hell" for voting for the mcCAIN-Palin coven.

I think Obama supporters

I think Obama supporters need to start a discussion about who else McCain will nominate. Who's he going to pick for5 Sec of Def? The Idaho State Univ archery coach? Sec of Transport? Some Allstate agent? And so on. This is perhaps the most cynical act in recent American politics. McCain needs to have his feet held to the fire, and have it all burn up.

I think the government and

I think the government and every else needs to stay out of peoples personal lives. It is not their business about abortion and what a woman wants to do. Why would they want to force a woman into having a child she doesn`t want and here will be another child abused because the government stuck their nose into something that does not concern them. I also liked when Charles Gibson ask her what was her thoughts on the Iraqi War and she said she hadn`t thought any thing about it. How fast she changed when he said "you are running for vice president of this country and you haven`t thought about the War In Iraq?" Not to smart of an answer. She said that God wants a gas line built kinda reminds me of when Bush said God told him to declare war on Iraq. I don`t know, I`m missing something here. I do not question what God has in mind but I do question these people that say God is telling them to do this.

...A Palin theocracy, in the

...A Palin theocracy, in the name of a, by most accounts, "lightweight", surrounded by cynical hypocritical neo-cons and awash in self-described "redneck" braggadocios, acting on fear, hatred and extreme insecurity.

Even the Bible teaches- "Ye

Even the Bible teaches- "Ye will know the tree by its fruit". And, by the way, I believe Obama is a Lutheran. At least that's the church he attended while stopping in my home town one recent Sunday morning during his trip across Ohio. I used to be a fundamentalist Christian, but in all honesty, and from my experiences, I know it doesn't automatically make someone a better person than someone from a less strict denomination not necessarily taking the entire Bible literally. The real proof is in the fruit. And believe you me, most religions, even some non Christian religions, have better fruit.

The constitution most

The constitution most definitely noe establish this country as a "christian nation" ; in fact one should pay attention to the last paragraph of Article VI "The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

What's ironic is that while

What's ironic is that while everyone here considers many issues "personal" and "out of bounds for government", you're all perfectly happy dictating to others how they are to save for retirement, what they eat, what they paint on signs, and even how large their toilet bowls are. What goes around comes around. Lay off the moralistic humanist crap, and maybe religious fundamentalists will leave you alone too. Coercion works both ways.

Those amazing republicans

Those amazing republicans and their lying machines: Goebbels is bested and worse. Incredulous, one stands befuddled before the prospect of an administration more negligent, more corrupt, more criminal than the Bush regime. Even the Large Hadron Colider is not expected to come upon such a hideous event.

Obama is repeating the

Obama is repeating the mistakes of Gore and Kerry. He is trying to take the high road against some of the most vicious attack dogs known to historical politics. This is a horrible, inept decision that will result in utter failure as the next 7 weeks pass. Rove and the McSame advisors are literally pit-bulls; they go for the jugular when they can, and they don't stop biting. Obama/Biden are currently taking this lying down in the manner of Gore and Kerry, and if they do not wake up and start throwing upper cuts and roundhouse punches to the throat, they are done. The American people do not want a high road president. They want a scrappy, dirty fighter who pulls no punches. If ever there were a time for Dems to be dirty, mean, cutthroat, and brutal, and effectively so, this is it - but they somehow think that being civil, courteous and "proper" will get them votes. HAHAHA. NOT. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I am starting to think that the last three elections are a dog and pony show. It is unfathomable that Obama and Biden are not pulling out every weapon in their arsenal and blasting the living shit out of this hollow shell known as the McSame/Palin ticket. But alas, they are not doing so. They are taking the high road, which will get them a sideline seat next to Kerry and Gore, while they watch the bullies take the reigns. What Rove understands is that you must appeal to a 7th grade mentality - the American reality. The Dems do not seem to get this - just look at the failed Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry campaigns for proof. Pull off the gloves Obama, and clench both fists tight, and start punching, and don't stop punching. Or don't, and lose.

Majorie Cohn writes, "Just

Majorie Cohn writes, "Just about the only issue on which McCain has not flip-flopped is his opposition to abortion rights." In 1999, McCain said, "I would not support the repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to undergo illegal and dangerous operations." But by 2006, he said its repeal "wouldn't bother me any," adding he would no longer support even adding rape and incest as exceptions. http://www.nybooks.com/articles/21470

During Palin's interview

During Palin's interview with Charles Gibson, Palin laughed and seemed to think that a potential war with Russia would be funny. She thought that Georgia and the Ukraine should be admitted to NATO in order to incite further tension with Russia. The campaign needs to face the question of whether the Palin choice is indicative of other future McBush appointments. Will we see more disasters such as Katrina? Why don't we demand Truth for a Change?

I cringed at Palin's smug

I cringed at Palin's smug certainty that she was "ready" to run for V.P. Small wonder though--she believes she was picked by "god". She follows religious doctrine espoused by the "christian dominionists"--fundamentalist true believers who advocate the "rapture", "speaking in tongues" and Armageddon. This deviant ideology happily promotes the end of the world. Naturally, Armageddon most assuredly can become a self-fulfilling prophesy--if the prophet and true believers start the war... I recommend the excellent book "American Theocracy" by Kevin Phillips for more explanation of this deviant "dominionist" ideology and how pervasive it has become within the Republican Party. By the way, I remind the reader that Hitler was a staunch "christian" as well. In fact, he believed it was his "moral obligation" to destroy Jews. Claiming to be Christian does NOT mean you practice it's faith...

Why do the Robpublicans

Why do the Robpublicans support pro life? Cheap Labor, cheap labor, Cheap Labor....that's all they ever want. More uneducated poor people for CHEAP LABOR!!! labor |ˈlābər| ( Brit. labour) noun 1 work, esp. hard physical work : the price of repairs includes labor and parts | manual labor. • workers, esp. manual workers, considered collectively : nonunion casual labor.labor |ˈlābər| ( Brit. labour) verb [ intrans. ] work hard; make great effort : they labored from dawn to dusk in two shifts | it now looks as if the reformers had labored in vain.

Call it a three-fer for

Call it a three-fer for Hillary backers. That is, we can find out 1) how intelligent Hillary backers really are, 2) how much they really supported Hillary's positions (as opposed to their polar opposite in Palin), and 3) how willing they are to trade their anger at Obama and the Democratic party for 4-8 more years of fascistic, militarist, extremism. So, make up your mind Hillaryites.

We have to stop this

We have to stop this Theocracy stuff now. Please let heed Thomas Jefferson: In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. Obama/Biden 08!

Relax everyone! Sarah Palin

Relax everyone! Sarah Palin is getting so much media attention, that after awhile, her lipstick will fade and so will this mindless excitement! We only have a few more weeks to get to know her. So, the more exposure the better! She is bound to put her egotistic foot in her mouth bigtime!!!!! I can't wait to see the Biden/Palin debate! I look forward to Charlie Gibson's next two interviews. Obama/Biden 08!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Palin was born in a

Sarah Palin was born in a Catholic family and apparently rejected this in favor of adhering herself to a group which many still call 'Holy Rollers." Does she believe in the end times of Armegeddon in which all of us must accept Christian beliefs or else? I doubt if the media will fully question these as they would be intimidated to not dare do so? Let us hope we do not see a return to the Swift Boating of 2004 or the unending appearances of Neocons advocating more wars as they succeeding in playing a major role in starting the wars against Iraq with Iran the next domino to fall in their agenda. steve WW2

There are so many comments I

There are so many comments I want to make here, but my biggest issue is with the attack on Sarah Palin's religious beliefs. The Judeo-Christian faith, if actually based on the Bible, takes the stance (that the article mentions) on the end times and the burning in hell of those who don't accept Jesus. It's not a good opener if you're trying to witness to someone, but those are aspects of the faith. I highly doubt that Palin is a radical who's waiting in the wings to start the end times with nuclear weapons at her fingertips, as someone suggested above. For one thing, that's just bad theology - biblically, it's not supposed to happen that way. But beyond that, there's more to going to war than the word of the President. Checks and balances, man. As a caveat to my rant, I want to agree with the fact that we enjoy religious freedom, but that goes both ways. Palin cannot legislate religion, but you cannot jump on her for having certain beliefs.

I, for one don't think Sarah

I, for one don't think Sarah Pain-in-the- neck is as popular in her own state as is led to believe. I believe she is feared more than revered. Look what she had set out to do to her former brother-in-law. And it's so easy to answer something you don't understand with, "It's Gods plan." As a Catholic, not former Catholic, as our Eskimo Princess is, I was taught that God gave us all a free will. Things are not all predestined. That's a cop out!

For what it's worth, even if

For what it's worth, even if Sarah Palin becomes VP, she can't impose a theocracy on the US without the consent of a large majority of our fellow citizens. Something tells me that she wouldn't be able to do that. And if she and her ilk succeed in outlawing abortion and getting the other things they say they want--well, I think they should be careful what they wish for. Was anyone else impressed by the show the Chinese put on for the Olympics last month? While McCain, Palin, & Co obsess about small things, their big supporters are busy dismantling America's social and industrial wealth and shipping it overseas. I hope Winston Churchill was right when he said of us, "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else."

The Christian Right has to

The Christian Right has to be mystified why Roe v. Wade hasn't been overturned given that the GOP has dominated justice appointments since 1980 with the exception of 8 years of Clinton. They are guilty of one of two things, gross incompetence or no real desire to accomplish this. If they ever succeeded in this effort they would be relegated to the backwaters of politics forever...and they know it!!! They pander to this issue pathologically...it gets out the vote, most "republicans" actually don't want to see this happen. Discussions of "theocracy ruling America" are crap...the GOP wants to pander not accomplish, otherwise their death sentence is sealed. A true sign of ultimate desperation...that's why they resort to stealing elections, there's no other way for them. Post note the Democrats better start reflecting the wishes of the populace or else...they have failed miserably so far...the bonds of corporate allegiance is still too tight

But then again, the American public is so breathtakingly stupid that I'm about to give up all hope.

How many of these comments are written by people that have accomplished Acts 2:38? I dare say zero... Has Sarah Palin accomplished Acts 2:38 ? SO let the heathens rage and Praise King Jesus for Salvation and Healing...

Craigslist founder, Craig

Craigslist founder, Craig Newmark, recently wrote about this site on the Huffington Post. I thought it sounded like a great fusion of politics and technology - and worth passing along: http://ObamaTravel.org — real grassroots democracy "Hey, this is a good example of genuine grassroots democracy: http://ObamaTravel.org is a platform that connects volunteers who want to travel to a swing state with financial sponsors and swing state host families. It’s sort of a political hybrid of craigslist and Team-in-Training - volunteers post profiles and solicit sponsorship from their family and friends. Sponsors can see their donations in action by following the activities of their volunteers. ... and let's remember that "community organizing" is pure grassroots democracy."

Too bad she can't be

Too bad she can't be raptured out of here prior to election day. Those people think that their beliefs are the only true beliefs and all American citizens better think as they do.

Palin is living in biblical

Palin is living in biblical times with a belief system that will put the USA on par with Taliban in Afghanistan - crude, cruel and warmongering. Basically, nothing different that today, just even worse. Americans that believe in her need to bloody well grow up and join the 21st century or accept the consequences of their pathetic, terrible choices.
