Oklahoma City - A legal advocacy group has filed a legal challenge to an Oklahoma law prohibiting a woman from getting an abortion unless she first has an ultrasound and the doctor describes what the test shows.
The Center for Reproductive Rights said in the lawsuit filed Thursday in Oklahoma County District Court that the law intrudes on privacy, endangers health and assaults dignity.
The lawsuit against the state was filed on behalf of Nova Health Systems doing business as Reproductive Services in Tulsa.
Lawmakers overrode Gov. Brad Henry's veto to pass the anti-abortion legislation.
State Rep. Rebecca Hamilton said she backed the measure because it ensures women get more information about abortion before having one.
