Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush late on Monday during a speech on the House floor.

Kucinich, a former contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, pointed to "high crimes and misdemeanors" committed by the Bush administration, including misrepresenting intelligence in the lead-up to the war, violating domestic and international laws against torture, illegally spying on American citizens, obstructing justice and governmental oversight, and dozens of other violations.

The impeachment resolution came four days after a June 5 Senate Select Intelligence Committee report that vigorously challenged statements made by the Bush administration regarding military intelligence in the runup to the invasion of Iraq. Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee John D. Rockefeller said in a press release, "Before taking the country to war, this Administration owed it to the American people to give them a 100 percent accurate picture of the threat we faced. Unfortunately, our Committee has concluded that the Administration made significant claims that were not supported by the intelligence."

"It is my belief that the Bush Administration was fixated on Iraq, and used the 9/11 attacks by al Qa'ida as justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein," Rockefeller noted.

While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and other members of the Democratic leadership maintain that such a resolution is "off the table," Kucinich, along with a group of his colleagues, has consistently pressed for a more urgent and direct response to the often unilateral and controversial actions of the Bush administration.

Despite the unlikeliness of impeachment gaining much traction in Congress, advocates of such a resolution continue to demand greater accountability of the executive branch.

As Kucinich began to issue his remarks, shuffling and talking could be heard in the background of the House chamber. Responding to the disarray, Kucinich objected to the Speaker, "The House is not in order." After several strikes of Pelosi's gavel, Kucinich started reading his articles into the record.

"In violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of president ..." Kucinich stated, "George W. Bush ... both personally and through his subordinates ... illegally spent public dollars on a secret propaganda campaign to manufacture a false cause for war against Iraq."

Kucinich started his speech by referencing a variety of news and intelligence reports regarding White House communications, specifically the White House Iraq Group, which was composed of senior officials (then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, then-Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, Karl Rove, then-Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Karen Hughes, former chief of staff Andrew Card, then-chief of staff to the Vice President I. Lewis Libby, then-White House press secretary Scott McClellan and others) who "produced white papers detailing so-called intelligence of Iraq's nuclear threat that later proved to be false." These papers included later-debunked claims that Iraq sought uranium and specialized centrifuges for enrichment.

These claims, which were central to the administration's rationale for preemptive action against Iraq, were used, according to Kucinich, to "market an invasion of Iraq to the American people."

Kucinich also noted that the White House Iraq Group papers "were written at same time and by the same people as speeches and talking points prepared for President Bush and for some of his top officials."

Congressman Kucinich went on to challenge the administration's policies toward Iran, as well as its conduct regarding military interrogations.

The resolution comes days after a sharply written letter by 56 Congress members requesting that Attorney General Michael Mukasey investigate potential crimes committed by the Bush administration during the course of its interrogation program. The letter, signed by House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, Barney Frank, Jan Schakowsky, Dennis Kucinich and other House Democrats, urged that the seriousness of the evidence on the program warrants a thorough investigation by a special counsel.

Revelations about the Bush administration's interrogations policies, along with its systematic practice of controlling information provided to the media and the American people, led Kucinich to conclude that the president has "misled the Congress and the citizens of the United States" and should be held accountable for violating his oaths of office to "faithfully execute the office of the president" and "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution."

I listened to most of

I listened to most of this--and was reminded of so many reasons I had supported each impeachment initiative that came up. It was a tedious and necessary statement of all the reasons George Bush and Dick Cheney must be called to account. How else will Americans be forced to remember what their government is meant to guarantee them.

Why, Nancy Pelosi and other

Why, Nancy Pelosi and other members of the Democratic leadership, is impeachment off the table? None of Kucinich's allegations are surprising or unreported. There is clear documentation that all his charges against the Bush administration are true. Why hesitate to hold this terrible administration responsible for all the damage they have done to the country? Thanks, Congressman Kucinich for going forward with this necessary step as we as a country try to heal from the last eight years.

Bravo to Kucinich.

Bravo to Kucinich. Theoretically, America is a country ruled by laws and by the processes prescribed by laws, rather than by personalities and/or ideologies. The law prescribes a process for dealing with scofflaw presidents: impeachment. Those who refuse this process, including Democrats (Pelosi's anti-impeachment attitude is pretty commonplace), are complicit in Bush's many crimes. They demonstrate little commitment to the idea of liberty and justice for all. It's irrelevant that Bush's term is almost over; what's relevant is his crimes, and the law of the land. Let's throw the bums out and elect people who demonstrate commitment to the rule of law. Such commitments cannot be demonstrated in any way other than by deeds. Real commitments are demonstrated by sacrifices made and by costs borne. Kucinich's commitment to the rule of law is now a matter of record. Unfortunately for America, Pelosi's commitment to the rule of law is also a matter of record, and that record is unflattering to her. Most of Congress would rather avoid going on record on this -- an avoidance that itself is evidence of a lack of commitment to the rule of law.

Why is it not obvious that

Why is it not obvious that the President did in fact violate his oath of office and is also guilty of war crimes?

IT well past time for Bush

IT well past time for Bush and Chenny to become accountable. Yes they may be gone in 8 months, but the responsibility of the congress is to ACT. DO IT NOW.

It's years too late - the

It's years too late - the damage is already done. What we need is a system (like the British) to expeditiously get rid of incompetent, dangerous and/or criminal Presidents before they wreak the kind of havoc George W Bush is responsible for.

Go Dennis. You're right on

Go Dennis. You're right on the money. This should have happened long ago!!!

I happened to be channel

I happened to be channel surfing when I caught Kuchinich talking about Bush and the war, so stayed to watch. I couldn't believe it when Kuchinich offered the articles of impeachment. FINALLY...or did I hear him wrong. I've tried to prod Sen. Feinstein into doing this, and her office replied they would not. Of course, there isn't really time to do it given the short time Bush is still in office. But shouldn't there be SOMEthing "we the people" can to against these liars. There is no responsiblity by ANYone in this adminstration, short of "resigning to spend more time with my family." Do thieves and murderers just walk away from the judge cause they want to spend time with their families. Don't they WISH! More surprising, I didn't see any other news coverage on the tv news, nor even on news websites. Wasn't this an important matter? Glad this is a "truthout" original, but it would have been more meaningful if the rest of the media had been paying attention. For pete's sake! Would some of you guilty parties (ie, McClelland comes to mind) please, as they say "fall on your sword." Those who are guilty, PLEASE PAY UP!

Good for Dennis Kucinich!

Good for Dennis Kucinich! Congress has been SO lacking in having the testicular fortitude to bring Bush and his gang to justice. Yes, it is true (unfortunately) that the Democrats do not have enough of a majority for an actual impeachment to be successful. The Republicans can stonewall it all the way, and the votes just are not there. But THANK YOU, DENNIS - for doing whatever YOU can to see that these LYING CRIMINALS do not COMPLETELY escape the consequences of their actions!

Please go to:

Please go to: https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml and write your representative asking them to support Dennis Kucinich and the articles to impeach George W. Bush. It only takes 30 seconds!

It is our responsibility to

It is our responsibility to hold this failed administration accountable for their actions. I applaud Dennis Kucinich and my congressman, Robert Wexler for moving this issue forward. Our reputation in the world is at stake and the impeachment process will hold the Bush adminstration accountable for what they have done. The 35 charges are impeachable offenses and this administration must be made to answer these charges, under oath and in public.

If impeachment is "off the

If impeachment is "off the table," may I ask Madame Speaker what is on it? Waffling? Lack of backbone? Indecision? A misplaced desire to observe the decencies of controversy and not rock the boat close to an election? I thank Representative Kucinich and those few others in the Capitol Building who are doing the right thing. The Bush administration should be subjected to no less and possibly much more than was the Nixon administration in the wake of the Watergate scandal...and this time, we should ensure that laws are passed forbidding anyone who served in this one from so much as serving on a local school board. Had we done that after Watergate, many of the current cast of characters would not be troubling us a generation later. It would be a much better country if the only jobs they could get would be ones in which they had to ask if we wanted fries with that. But then again, they'd probably spit in our food.

Yes, Mr. Kucinich! I hope

Yes, Mr. Kucinich! I hope they listen to you and impeach this abominable administration. I voted for you by absentee ballot before you pulled out, and now I hope that you can help Obama see his way to getting us out of iraq immediately, getting us single payer universal health insurance, and greener solutions for energy than he envisions. Thanks for making so much sense. Alicia Snow

Although Mr. Kucinich has

Although Mr. Kucinich has reiterated what many of us have known for years, it is important to support him in his efforts because the impeachment process may reveal many facts about this administration that have not yet come to light. For example, it was much too convenient to have 9-11 occur which allowed the neoconservative agenda (read Project for a New American Century-PNAC) to go forward full throttle and Bush becoming too powerful to be challenged. It is almost 7 years later and we still have no satisfactory answers explaining why the air force did not respond to the hijackings for over an hour, why 3 steel supported structures (the twin towers and WTC 7) fell at free fall speed with the concrete pulverized into dust, why WTC 7 fell at all since no plane hit it, why a plane was allowed to fly into the Pentagon unimpeded when it was already clear we were under attack, etc., etc., etc. Impeachment may not be enough...arrest may be more suitable.

Thank you to Congressman

Thank you to Congressman Kucinich for pushing for the impeachment of George Bush. It's time to hold this criminal accountable for his actions and set an example of the rule of law for future president's and future generations.

If Georgie had his

If Georgie had his Monica....well, there would be action to be sure. Remember, Priorities! ;-)

Read the law

Read the law here: http://www.anonymousource.com/bastardsonsindex.html

If George W. bush and Dick

If George W. bush and Dick Cheney are not impeached for lying this country into launching an aggressive war that has caused 4,000+ American service personnel and countless thousands of innocent Iraqis to die, and thousands more troops and civilians to be maimed for life, then for what greater offenses could a possible future miscreant administration be impeached? If a phony war that promises to bankrupt America, treating the Constitution like TP, putting our own military in jeopardy of torture by torturing captives for "information" what could possibly rise to a level of criminality that would trigger impeachment? Nixon was impeached for covering up a "third rate burglary" and Bill Clinton for personal sexual misconduct with a consenting adult. In neither instance was a single life lost! Must a future president machine-gun innocent Americans in the streets? Take over the government in a military coup? Oh wait! Then it would be too late for impeachment, because we would be in a full-on dictatorship and the constitution would be exactly what the Bushies like Alberto Gonzales call it---"a piece of paper". Maybe Bush and Cheney require "extraordinary rendition" to a country--how about The Hague-- where they can be tried for their War Crimes--no torture, just a fair trial with all the evidence presented and no "executive privilege" to shut up the witnesses.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid need to hold this administration accountable. Though they will be gone in 8 months, it will send an important message to the American people that this has been and still is unacceptable behavior. This must never happen again.

The truth is the truth and I

The truth is the truth and I would like to know why the United States media and the vast majority of elected officials who were duped into the endless and life wasting occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan have refused to follow the trails of lies and deception to their conclusion. We the People should demand an accounting so this nation can return to sanity and prevent a future misuse of American military troops. The arrogance and incompetence displayed by the current administration cannot be allowed to continue. Why is the US trying to get Iraqi leaders to agree to allow 58 US military bases to be a permanent fixture in Iraq if the ONLY reason we invaded was the "imminent threat" of WMD's? Why are our elected officials not outraged by the planning for an unrestricted military presence in Iraq that is being set up behind the scenes RIGHT NOW!!! WHY INDEED!

Why is the media not

Why is the media not plastering this all over the place and reprinting a concise list of all 35 articles so that every citizen can see for themselves why Bush needs to be impeached???

Here's to you Dennis

Here's to you Dennis Kucinich. You have the guts to tell the truth out loud . We need to hold George and Dick accountable for their crimes. Get rid of the bastards NOW. And I say shame on you Nancy Pelosi for being a wimp . Why is it not on the table to impeach ? We all know that the past 7and 1/2 years of the Bush addministration has been nothing but one long dissaster for America and it will be a very long time before we are looked at favorably in the eyes of the world no matter who gets in the White House next .

Thank you, Congressman!

Thank you, Congressman! Thank you for having the courage to do what few of your fellows could bear to think of. Thank you for laying it out, for showing us all that there is still one Democrat not involved with seeking a Presidential nomination who still has a backbone! Thank you for openly shaming Speaker Pelosi's cowardly policy of refusing to even consider what MUST be done, and for putting this on the table openly so that it MUST be dealt with before all other business!

Long overdue. This frat

Long overdue. This frat house needs to be shut down. W is no longer buying kegs.

Finally!! Impeachment of the

Finally!! Impeachment of the war-criminals in the White House is a necessary first step to moving this country forward. Second step should be sending the culprits (W., Cheney et.al.) to the Hague to stand trial for crimes against humanity. The dead innocents of Iraq deserve justice!

Thank you, Dennis! How else

Thank you, Dennis! How else can the people of the U.S. repudiate before the world the actions of this administration?

How could an indictment of

How could an indictment of all the crimes of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney NOT be long and tedious. Kucinich gave a comprehensive indictment, well supported with documentary evidence, all known to be true. Pelosi should be kicked out as Speaker. No guts.

This administration has

This administration has clearly violated the public trust in commiting high crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachment should have been item #1 for the Democrats in 2006, as it should be now.

just what is the delay?

just what is the delay?

Dennis is a hero. It is a

Dennis is a hero. It is a complete mystery why Pelosi and Reid completely ruled out any action against a criminal organization masquerading as a political administration. These soulless people have committed the highest crimes! Where is the justice? Where is the accountability? My guess has been that with warrantless wiretapping, everyone in government was eavesdropped on and that these immoral wretches have threatened to use private conversations or information as a weapon. Otherwise, why wouldn't more people in Congress try to get to the truth? Political reasons can't be enough. This unelected, hypocritical, insane collection: Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Fife, Cheney, Rice, Bush, Gonzalez...just the listing of their names gets me nauseous... There just has to be justice. We have to take our country back, as Howard so eloquently said 4 years ago. Why should our tax money go to pay for their pensions, health care and libraries when they have looted the treasury, destroyed our reputation around the world and eviscerated the moral core of our country? Enough is enough! At least bring back stocks in the town square!

I don't care if impeachment

I don't care if impeachment is "off the table" because now it's "on the floor" and from there, in the Congressional Record. That means I can once again hold my head up among my global comrades. Thank you, Dennis!

It is extremely important

It is extremely important that Congress Acts Now on impeachment. I fail to understand why it should be "off the table" in the light of crimes against the US constitution and against humanity that have been committed by this administration. These people must not be allowed to carry ruination of this country any further in the coming few months before the election. There is no doubt in my mind that they are prepared to commit gross election fraud in every precinct they can to put their nominee into office. Every legislature in the House of Representatives whatever his/her party must unite for decency and rule of law in this vitally important situation. Impeachment must take place now.

It's important to put things

It's important to put things in perspective. Conspiring to take this country to war against a state that is not a threat to the United States is disturbing -- especially when thousands of American G.I.s and maybe a million Iraqi civilians died. But does it rise to the level of impeachment? After all, there were no interns, no cigars, no stained dresses and no lying under oath about oral sex. Those are things that will get a guy impeached. Perspective.

Dennis Kucinich is one of

Dennis Kucinich is one of the only congressmen with any backbone and morality. The man speaks truth to power. But the masses are asses and what becomes of us after this do-nothing, take no action congress is done, will repeat over and over until Brave New World arrives. It's like watching a movie, only this is real, our nation is in such crisis with the filth of power and corruption that we are all numb. Dumbed down and numb. The few who could do anything are powerless to do so and are considered freaks, commies, anti-US losers. Dennis is the man and if anyone with guts to stand with him, make your voice heard, say it LOUD.

Dennis, Thank you for

Dennis, Thank you for being a true concerned Citizen of the United States. I am sure that everyone who appreciates the 'Rule by Law,' also thanks you for representing us. Good For You, William Gilbertg

Thank you Dennis.

Thank you Dennis. Impeachment of this administration is the only way that this country can gain back its credibility and its honor. If we, as a nation, let ourselves be brutalized by and knowingly allow our own government to commit crimes against the people of the world then we have lost our right to freedom and democracy. How many of our congressmen and women can stand up and honestly salute our flag knowing they have been cowards and let these crooks get away with treason?

Why, indeed, does Pelosi

Why, indeed, does Pelosi insist on keeping impeachment off the table. Is she protecting this criminal and if so why? It sounds like she wants to stall til the election is over and keep Bush spared from the truth in the history books. Nixon resigned to save himself from impeachment for Watergate. His funeral was televised for 3 or more days making him some sort of hero - a man who betrayed his country! Bush has shredded our Constitution, used Americas' children's lives to maintain an illegal war and drained America’s pocketbooks to fill the bank accounts of oil CEOs and his own family’s oil investments. Clearly he’s brought us back in time to the ruler/serf era and Pelosi is protecting him by avoiding his impeachment? Maybe she needs some investigating. As a Democrat who used to have great admiration for her I'm ashamed to say that but something is definitely rotten in Denmark!

My deepest respect and

My deepest respect and admiration to Congressman Kucinich. The articles of impeachment he cites seem to be supported by evidence strong enough to warrant the investigation that is the impeachment proceedings. The charges, if roven, are so serious that they would require the removal of Pfresident Bush. If the proceedings aren't completed before the end of his term, the should be continued for the sake of justice and history.

We must begin impeachment

We must begin impeachment proceedings so that future administrations will act responsibly.

Bravo to Dennis Kucinich but

Bravo to Dennis Kucinich but what does this mean? Have any other congressmen/womem joined him in his quest? Is this just one voice crying out in the wilderness? The American people are behind Kucinich but the Congress is standing by with their thumbs up their butts. Nancy Pelosi has got to be bought and paid for. When are we going to get her out of office? It doesn't do any good to appeal to her. Come on, voters of California - do your job!

Kucinich is a hero in my

Kucinich is a hero in my eyes! Thank you, for standing up for AMERICA!!

I am proud of Dennis

I am proud of Dennis Kucinich for introducing these 35 articles of impeachment. Reading them makes me shudder at the sweeping disregard for the rule as well as spirit of law exercised by the Bush/Cheney administration since taking office, and it rekindles my years-old buried rage for their high crimes committed in the name of democracy. At long last, Rep. Kucinnich has given expression to the discontent deeply held by millions of Americans. What makes Bush's misdeeds exceptional is the hypocrisy with which he intentionally misled the public, all the while representing his policies as in the public interest. On the other hand, I am also outraged at the way the media and the Congress essentially rolled over and played dead during the Bush era, until recently. That Speaker Pelosi did not introduce impeachment proceedings immediately after Democrats took back Congress in 2006 is reason enough for me to doubt the integrity of the Democratic as well as Republican leadership. Truth-speaking mavericks like Rep. Kucinich are rare and deserve our full support and commendation for their outstanding courage.

congratulations to Kucinich!

congratulations to Kucinich! It is fitting and way beyond the time that a responsible person would stand up and say - Enough!. It's long since time to throw Bush, Cheney, Pelosi out of office and into a jail cell (where I would throw away the key and allow them to speak to no one.) Above all this, I am more angered by the lack of action on the part of the American citizen. It is long past due for the public to storm the white house, pull Bush out of that office and include Cheney and Peloci as well. Because of the inactive attitude of the public, I see these criminals walking away from office in January and laughing all the way to wherever they're going. Shame!

DK's website was attacked

DK's website was attacked this morning and shut down by someone. Gee...I wonder which US agency did that?

Thank you Congressman

Thank you Congressman Kucinich. Our Founders who gave birth to this good country are smiling on you today for trying to save it. You have the courage, the wisdom and dare I say it, the common sense of Thomas Paine. The voters in your District in Ohio must be very proud to be represented in Congress by a true patriot who understands and honors our Constitution and its responsibilities. Our family is grateful to you. Well done, sir. Susan (Redwood City, CA)

Thank you, Rep. Kucinich.

Thank you, Rep. Kucinich. You understand the intense frustrations of many American citizens far more than do Pelosi and Reid. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, Congressman

Thank you, Congressman Kucinich for doing when even our admired Representative, Lynn Woolsey, has not dared. You are our hero!

I hope that Senator

I hope that Senator Kuchinich, now that he is free from having to please everybody as candidates must, can say what needs to be said about this skunk of a president. And I pray he gets heard. Otherwise, we are stuck with trying Bush and Cheney in the blogosphere

Dennis should be our next

Dennis should be our next Prez. Until that happens I'm sticking with Cynthia Mckinney (she pushed for impeachment when she was in the House too)

Thank you, thank you, thank

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Senator Kucinich, for your unrelenting fight to get this message heard . History will remember you, and I will support you in any way I can for having the courage to get the simple truth to the halls of power.
