MSNBC Demotes Keith Olbermann

New York - MSNBC said Sunday it is replacing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as co-anchors of political night coverage with David Gregory, and will use the two newsmen as commentators.

The change reflects tensions between the freewheeling, opinionated MSNBC and the impartial newsgatherers at NBC News. Throughout the primaries and summer, MSNBC argued that Olbermann and Matthews could serve as dispassionate anchors on political news nights and that viewers would accept them in that role, but things fell apart during the conventions.

Gregory, the veteran Washington hand, will anchor MSNBC's coverage of the presidential and vice presidential debates and election night, said Jeremy Gaines, network spokesman. The change was first reported by The New York Times.

The tipping point appears to have come during the Republican convention when Olbermann, after the network aired a Sept. 11-themed video prepared by the Republicans, said that MSNBC should not have shown it.

MSNBC executives, who had publicly defended their anchors' roles while privately monitoring it throughout the political season, made the change over the weekend after discussions with Olbermann. Despite the controversy around him, Olbermann has been a hero with left-leaning viewers and keyed MSNBC's growth among coveted young viewers.

During her acceptance speech last week, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin talked about the "Washington elite" not accepting her qualifications for the job. Some delegates on the convention floor began chanting, "N-B-C, N-B-C."

Olbermann began to have difficulty keeping his opinions in check, or simply stopped trying.

He sarcastically dismissed GOP pundit Pat Buchanan on the air after Buchanan said the GOP had been enlivened by the entrance of a conservative Republican.

"Those reading US Weekly with the picture of her and her youngest daughter with the word `scandal' written across it won't be so happy," Olbermann said.

He expressed little sympathy at another point when GOP anger at rumors over the Internet about Palin were being discussed.

"We'll see if people feel sorry for unfounded rumors on the Internet," he said. "If that's the case, Sen. Obama's probably standing up and cheering and waiting for people to feel sorry for him."

Perhaps most embarrassing, Joe Scarborough was discussing positive developments in John McCain's campaign at one point when Olbermann was heard on an offstage microphone saying: "Jesus, Joe, why don't you get a shovel?"

Scarborough, a former Republican congressman and host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," got in another nasty on-air exchange with MSNBC reporter David Shuster, and Matthews snapped at Olbermann on-air when it appeared Olbermann was criticizing him for talking too much.

All the drama made MSNBC a punch line when top NBC anchor Brian Williams appeared on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" last week. "Is there no control?" Stewart asked him. "`Is it `Lord of the Flies?'"

A sheepish Williams said that every family has a dynamic of its own.

"But does MSNBC have to be the Lohans?" Stewart said.

Olbermann was in Denver during the Democratic national convention, but performed his co-hosting duties for the GOP convention in a New York studio. NBC President Steve Capus said the decision was not political, that Olbermann had been sent back to anchor coverage of Hurricane Gustav.

MSNBC's decision comes just before Olbermann's "Countdown" show is set to air, on Monday, Olbermann's interview with Barack Obama. That will put Olbermann in direct competition with his nemesis, Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly, who interviewed Obama last week and is airing a portion of it Monday in the same 8 p.m. EDT time slot.

Here it is, the fix is in:

Here it is, the fix is in: take off the air one of the fiercest opponents of McCain. Corporate media doesn't want their tax rates increased, so it's Go Go McCain!

Once again the TRUTH gets

Once again the TRUTH gets kicked in the balls by corporate America. Olbermann is just about the only commentator on t.v. who says a lie is a lie. NBC like the rest of the networks bends their knee to the will of the republican party. Where were the networks for the last eight years? They were rehashing the garbage coming out of Cheney's office like it was "The Sermon On The Mount". Just think of the field day O'Reily is going to have with this. The old saying, "The truth hurts" couldn't be more so. And NBsee you later, can't take the pain. When will the 4th estate do their job and actually begin telling the truth instead of telling us what they've been told to say. Any high school journalist could do a better job of finding the truth than the Ken Dolls who sit in the anchor positions now. It really does seem that if you want the real news you have to go to the internet. Its a sad day when the truth becomes an endangered species because it has been hunted almost to extinction by the networks.

The so called liberal media

The so called liberal media is shockingly devoid of liberals. I saw a liberal once on CNN. Bill Maher is a liberal, but I don't pay extra to see him. No television without liberal representation!

Though I did not agree with

Though I did not agree with Olbermann all the time, it appears that MSNBC silenced one voice that could criticize the governmental ploicies when no one else did it.

I believe MSNBC has been the

I believe MSNBC has been the most biased news channel ever since the primaries and their open opposition to Hillary Clinton.. Olberman but especially Matthews were openly hostile toward her. Their hostility toward the GOP is just more of the same. They air their views (often unexamined views) not the news.

I am trying to voice

I am trying to voice complaint to MSNBC but of course its unclear where to write ontheir website.. Any ideas???

NOTHING WILL CHANGE until

NOTHING WILL CHANGE until the communications law that President Clinton passed in the 90's is either overturned or re-written so that large Corporate monopolies like GE and Viacom cannot own all the TV networks and magazines and internet news orgs.... When the media shows a favorable story about a Democratic politician they are the D*** liberal media and if its a good story about the Bush Administration ( phony) then they are Fair and Balanced B/S !!!!!!!

If political bias is the

If political bias is the benchmark at NBC, they should toss Joe Scarborough off the air. A more dedicated winger does not exist.

More of the same... we have

More of the same... we have ONE PERSON that we can turn to and get some of the truth (of course, there's the Daily Show also) and NBC buckles to the big bucks... sorry... you deserve your low ratings... there is now NO REASON to turn to "nbsee ya"jtk North Carolina

It is amazing that NBC let

It is amazing that NBC let the fresh air of Olbermann's commentary blow for so long. We are a blighted country and the blight is worsening.

I want fair and unbiased

I want fair and unbiased journalism. That is all I ask and I want it on ALL of the networks. If there is a bias then claim it to be your leaning. For example Fox could say, "FOX News, friends of the Republicans" or MSNBC could say, "MSNBC, friends of the Democrats" if they want to present their opinions and biases, otherwise a NEWS station should be just that. They should try and discover TRUE facts, report those facts and leave it to the viewers to form an opinion about those facts. If each network has a commentator that is fine, let them be seen as just that. Each network brings aboard politicians or strategists from each party and we know that and can make our own assessment. What I WOULD like is a true, fair and honestly investigated look into Sarah Palin;s background in order to determine if the internet stories carry any veracity. If they do then it is a big red face for the McCain campaign for not vetting her more carefully. I do not want a Vice President (or a VP candidate) who is protected from the same scrutiny as any other person running for a major office. Biden was on Meet the Press... let's put Palin on. The fact that she needs 'bringing up to speed" is a very poor sign that she is not ready for the office. PLEASE apply the same standard to all candidates. I am a woman and I am not voting for someone JUST because they are a woman. I want QUALIFICATIONS and someone who represents my political viewpoints. Thank you.

I have avoided telecast news

I have avoided telecast news like the plaque for quite some time now - it just made me angry and feel helpless and isolated, as it is designed to do, but have been warming to MSNBC because of Oberman's and Matthews' brave and honest coverage. It was refreshing to be able to get an intelligent interpretation of the news from a show not on the comedy channel, but alas, too much honesty is not good for business, though it might be good for us and for the country at large.

I'll miss Olbermann's astute

I'll miss Olbermann's astute and truthful commentary on the often shameful behavior of our elected officials. He is a clear, bright beacon in a midway of cheap media barkers that allow lies that masquerade for fact to get airtime, when they ought to be investigating and exposing people claiming to have souls who tell any lie to manipulate the public. I know Keith will find another venue for his commentary because he is so good at what he does.

One more time, corporate

One more time, corporate America is intimidated by the Right into silencing an opposing voice. Be afraid, very afraid.

So, they have fired Clark

So, they have fired Clark Kent: I hope Super Man avenges this outrage! He was the ONLY one on network TV worth watching. Just wait! L.

I was shocked and saddened

I was shocked and saddened to read this news. Like the commenter here, I agree. Once again, the truth (per Olbermann) gets pushed aside for the GOP, Corporate America and the rest of that group. What a bunch of SHEEP! I can only hope Olbermann will find his way to a network that will appreciate his TRUTH in the media and to the American public....which is what we deserve. I can't help but feel....this is the beginning of the end. Free speech? NOT in this country! And as much as I like David Gregory....MSNBC just lost one viewer.

An extremely limited

An extremely limited "reporter", using repeated cliches as if they were deep thoughts, Gregory now has what he knew he would receive if he continued act like a reporter instead of being one, act like a politco-intellectual instead of being one. I am now one of a growing member who will no longer watch MSNBC as I no longer watch Fox. Their loss, my gain.

I'm surprised Mr

I'm surprised Mr Olbernmann's free wheeling, unfettered, un-spun commentaries have lasted this long. His "reassignment" is a travesty; it will be protested, but likely to no avail. Big Brother, 1984, Goebbels has long since arrived. Accurate, candid reporting in "mainstream" media is rapidly becoming extinct. Keep the faith, Mr Olbermann, thank you for keeping it real.

Well, let's see, Olbermann

Well, let's see, Olbermann says what any person with any sense of taste or class would say about that 9/11 video, and he gets kicked out of the co-anchor slot. He says the truth about some of the other obviously right-wing commentators being too biased, and he gets slapped on the wrist, while they get promotions. He says the Emperor has no clothes, and he gets treated like a pariah. What is wrong with this picture in America? A free and open democracy requires a free and open press. It requires of its journalists that they investigate and report the facts. Open mics are not very smart, but the fact is that sometimes they happen (just ask Mike Murphy, Noonan, Jackson to name a few). But, when commentators do run at the mouth like Matthews is apt to do or they spew their political biases all over the place, they are not reporting the news or even covering it - they are blanking it out! So, now except for two hours a night, I guess my only news sources now will be the Internet - because our free press just lost one of its best! I will watch Countdown and Rachel Maddow, and hope that MSNBC is flooded with lots of complaints about what they have just done! Keep it up, Keith! You deserve better than to become the butt of O'Reilly's glee!

Keith Olbermann is a crucial

Keith Olbermann is a crucial voice in the debate necessary to restore truth and dignity to American political thinking. Reducing his ability to freely express his opinions is another attack on our need to hear differing points of view. His passion and focus regarding this election are an essential part of the process to keep our country informed and free. Don't muzzle him, but support hisability to speak openly.

What happened to the media

What happened to the media giving BOTH points of view? We have the O'Reilly's, Hannity's, all of Fox for the far right point of view. Why not give Olbermann and the rest of us a voice?

There is no such thing as

There is no such thing as "liberal" media. That joke was exposed years ago when everyone came to realize that media is owned by large corporations and wing nuts like Murdoch -- whose opinions are freely expressed daily (with no censorship) on Fox. So what if Olbermann opines? There has to be a balance to the overt right wing slant of Fox, which is tacitly abetted by the more subtle "pussycats" of the "major" networks and the unctious editorial boards of the Washington Post and the slimy, war-supporting NYT. (Thank you, Judith Miller) Olbermann has balls and is increasing the viewership of MSNBC -- the only true liberal on the air. Too dangerous for the rest of the timorous Bush-speak media mouthpieces. So censorship, a la a totalitarian (hmmmm) regime.

I wish Americans would just

I wish Americans would just stand up to corporate media and STOP giving it your money...kill your TV people!

For a while there I thought

For a while there I thought we would have "truth to power" on a major network on a regular basis. Not so, friends. It had to be stopped. They have won again.

It is too bad that even

It is too bad that even MSNBC seems to have fallen prey to the constant bashing of those in the media perceived to be "liberal", but who really only espouse the opposite point of view from the other side, by both politicians and the public bloviators on the right. This is not only sad but also dangerous in these times which require equal public voicing of both sides. In the end, MSNBC failed to stand up and acknowledge their role in this and, in fact, failed to have the courage to continue their job of being a haven for free press and responsible reporting. One can argue the specifics of Olbermann's and Matthew's perceived offences against their bosses, but the fact remains that the cable outlet of NBC seems to have failed in its responsibility and now goes the way of the other networks from which it was previously distinguished.

So we're all going to hell

So we're all going to hell because no one can stand up to these people. To say that this is disgraceful doesn't begin to express my outrage. What are they so afraid of -- deliver me from the GOP.

I too believe the fix is in.

I too believe the fix is in. These changes are not by accident. IT looks as if the puff coverage of one of the countries worst candidates ever and his VP pick is being shoved down our throats as a great new "product" to sell the GOP "brand"

While I sometimes thought

While I sometimes thought that Olbermann perhaps went too far, his voice was refreshing [and I hope will continue to be on his own show]. It was also a counter to the blatantly partisan FOXes on cable. NBC has been on a roll, but has now been frightened into retrenching by the Rovites. Too bad. Now what am I supposed to watch?

After hearing several CNN

After hearing several CNN commentators gushing over Sarah Palin the night she confessed to being a pitbull with lipstick, I am thoroughly sick of corporate television coverage. There are, of course, still two independent television channels: LINK TV, and Free Speech TV, which I had to subscribe extra to receive on Dish Network. They air Amy Goodman and several other hosts who are mainly interested in the truth. For a long time I've wondered how Olbermann could get away with calling a spade "a spade." Sorry he's being muzzled.

Tried to post an objection

Tried to post an objection to the removal of Olbermann and Matthews on MSNBC, and can't even find a way to do that. I wonder how long Rachel Maddow will have before they send her packing? The lesson in all this is don't really give the public the truth if it happens to go against the prescribed opinions for the day -- listed by Big Brother.

This is sad. Who will watch

This is sad. Who will watch this tiresome David Gregory? Ah well. Maybe Animal Kingdom will be on. The Right Wing wins again.

"If the shoe fits, wear it

"If the shoe fits, wear it and if the truth hurts, bear it." That line comes from Hank Williams III and it certainly is not the mantra of NBC. The illusory goal of phoney "objectivity" has the network bosses still treating every utterance from the vice president's office as if it's now and forever the undisputed truth. Olbermann was one of the first to call a lie a lie, and withfacts and analysis. not give the current administration a free pass. It's a good thing Jon Stewart isn't on MSNBC.

gee, guess he shouldn't have

gee, guess he shouldn't have told the Truth. guess he shouldn't have apologized for the disgusting 9/11 RNC video. damn those journalists, commentating on Truthiness. --------- Spread Love, not fear, hate & corporate dependence... Take off Olberman and

Take off Olberman and Matthews- I'll watch CNN for the coverage. Keith is the only one who tells it like it is- Gregory is good, but not the same.

It's a sad day when two

It's a sad day when two outstanding journalists who have a habit of telling it like it is are demoted for being honest about the news. With every other network putting on pundits to interpret the news and slant it to the conservatives, Keith and Chris were a breath of fresh air, knocking both sides when it was appropriate. I can only image the pressure NBC felt from monied Republicans who buy a lot of advertising. It was Keith and Chris' fair and honest reporting that brought me to CNBC from CNN....now it's back to CNN. NBC should be ashamed that they buckled to such pressures. It's a sad day for professional journalism.

Who is going to say anything

Who is going to say anything now about Guantanomo and whether McClain is in line to extend the same kind of Executive Powers that Bush/Cheney have pushed in order to evade all accountability?

I am sure Keith will show up

I am sure Keith will show up somewhere. I suggest everyone do what I have done. I intentionally do not subscribe to ANY cable or Dish. I have removed NBC (General Electric) and ABC (Disney) from my remote so they do not show up on station search. By the way- Mickey Mouse is a Child Molester!

This 76-year-old "youngster"

This 76-year-old "youngster" will still watch your coverage just to hear Olberman's "comments."

This is the video of

This is the video of Olberman.

This 76-year-old "youngster"

This 76-year-old "youngster" will still watch Olbermann for his "comments."

Keith Olbermann is the only

Keith Olbermann is the only reason I waste my time watching the clowns and buffoons on TV News/right wing cable/radio as U wage this jaundiced, media biased campaign to lead our country farther down the drain. Recall, lest U have already forgotten, that all of U sat silently by on your behinds with fingers in your ears, acquiesced and in some cases led the cheers for Bush's and the Republicans' lies about Iraq, violations of the Constitution, the sabotage of this country's economic foundation, and many other issues detrimental to this country's well-being. Rather than trumpeting Bush and the republican party and its suspect candidates McCain (Why have U not had the decency and truthfulness to ever mention McCain and the Keating Five as U gloss over and cover up his record) and Palin, U should be leading the charge to have war crimes trials conducted and at a minimum have this administration charged criminally for the dastardly deals foisted against this nation. Do U not see any parallel between the Keating Five/Savings & Loan scandal from a few years ago and the current debacle at Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac? To paraphrase what someone said many years ago to Sen. Joe McCarthy during his "communist crusade": HAVE YOU NO SHAME"! U Do Not have to answer the question. The answer is obvious, as your duplicity and hypocrisy are written all across your faces. This country needs true journalists, not a bunch of high price buffoons holding themselves out as analysts. Remember: opinions are just like anuses, everybody has one. But we don't always need to see or hear them.

What do you expect poor

What do you expect poor Keith to say when you put him with a loon like Chris Matthews? He did the best he could under the circumstances. He does not suffer fools well. Chris is painful for me to watch, and apparently painful for Keith also. I am in full support of Keith Olbermann, and he should be given the anchor position.

Reinstate Keith Olbermann.

Reinstate Keith Olbermann. While he has opposed torture, illegal war for profit, destruction of constitution freedoms, and criminal behavior in the White House, he could hardly be called a left-wing radical. In fact, anyone who stops to think at all would agree there must be some counter-balancing force against the corporate propaganda that dominates public media.

I have not watched any of

I have not watched any of the 3 networks for news for years. In the last eight years not any of those "reporters" because they are not journalists have asked Bush any tough questions about the war, the economy or any of the other questions they should have asked when they had the opportunity. For example when he was laughing about not being able to find weapons of mass destruction. That was not funny to the families who have lost their sons, daughters, or to any Americans who can empathize with them. That was a disgrace!! Olberman tells it like it is. Just the truth! If they are going to silence him then I will have to start getting all my news on the internet. The corporations don't control the internet, at least not yet. We need Keith Olberman to tell us the truth!!

This is not hard to believe

This is not hard to believe at all; throughout my life everytime I've responded powerfully to a tv show or personality they have been disappeared. Olbermann is the only one out there with any integrity or balls for that matter

How many times do we have to

How many times do we have to say, "What a sad day for America?"

The MSM has lost its only

The MSM has lost its only glimmer of hope with this diabolical move by NBC. Olbermann was the only newsperson in the MSM that was calling it like it is. So much for free speech in America. Now we can all tune into FOX and listen to the Whitehouse talking points. A very sad, sad day for all of us.

I wouldn't be so upset about

I wouldn't be so upset about this if there actually were fair and balance reporting of the Un-Fox news type. With Reagan's deregulation of the airwaves we can't get actual news reports. We get spin and lies. Can we at least get equal spin from BOTH sides. We did we get a liberal media? I missed it.

Now in total disgust at

Now in total disgust at MSNBC's cheap commercial decision to demote Olberman. You wont catch me watching his replacement

What the hell is wrong with

What the hell is wrong with NCB and MSNBC management? Are they freakin nuts? The only decent coverage of the democratic convention was Olbermann, Matthews and the panels they had on. The other cable networks and MSM all were soooo right leaning it was pathetic! Then, for the Republican nights they made Keith stay in NY, huh? Where are their programming brains? People don't want to hear non-stop right wing republican takes on everything. Who is in charge? Republican corporate big money CEO's that's who. I really really hate that we liberal-leaning normal mainstream people have no voice in this nation anymore!

these big "media companies"

these big "media companies" aren't real businesses.. it's just like disney refusing to distrubte "fahrenheit 911" http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0708-10.htm your job is to get people to watch a channel, the channel is different on very cable channel, you can only see it on cable... you have a show that everyone is talking about, it's free publicity... so you replace the named talent that's making all the publicity and replace him with a nobody. it makes perfect sense.

Wow. If this isn't

Wow. If this isn't suppression of free speech, I don't know what is... and I just love how NBC calls David Gregory "impartial"! Yeah, he's just the dancing news boy entertainment (a.k.a. pin the tail on the donkey) for the Republican fund raising events. Well, it's not really surprising. They (republican ELITIST WEALTH HOARDERS) don't want to lose their power. They're going to get bloody.

SO the Right has finally

SO the Right has finally won! Olbermann has been reduced to nothing! There is a petition on the internet @ "petitions.com/petition/bringback?e" regarding this issue. I for one am giving up this dysfunctional network, with the exception of Keith's program, Cold Turkey! MSNBC, owned by defense contractor GE, helped George W. Bush win back in 2000 and 2004, with the aid of Chris Matthews in part. They have been seriously out of character, and they couldn't stand that! Keith has been a breath of fresh air, but the rest are really nothing but Right-Wing HACKS! Matthews comes and goes. He cannot be trusted to be an honest broker. He is reliable for a few months, and then he zings you, just when you least expect it. So, I am going on a well deserved MSNBC "FAST" with the exception of Keith!!!

I will miss Olberman. Now

I will miss Olberman. Now MSNBC is yet another US network that I will never watch. For news more important than the weather, the Internet is about the only place to go. There are very few commentators I even want to listen to. The few I do listen to are mainly on PBS.

The solution is not so

The solution is not so difficult. All stations have broadcast license expirations, and must dmeonstrate that they are serving their particular viewing/listening audience to get their license to broadcast renewed. If a thousand people showed up at a license renewal hearing; or sent in certified letters stating that a particular station was not serving the needs of its viewing public, and therefore recommend that their license NOT be renewed -- the result would be phenomenal. Sometimes simply calling a station and asking a VP "please tell me when your broadcast license is due to expire" gives them apoplectic fits over the phone enough to get some satisfaction. Try it and see....

So the Republican Leadership

So the Republican Leadership has finally prevailed at NBC as well. I was so proud of msnbc for having the guts to have Keith and Rachel covering politics, so I was understandably disappointed they weren't represented hardly at all in the Rep. convention coverage. I, along with Keith, was very annoyed at Mathews talking way too much - so much I turned them off and went to c-span. Getting rid of Keith gets rid of the ONLY liberal on these so-called "news" organizations and I'm VERY sad to hear that this is due to the other news people at NBC, since it is impossible they are "impartial" when they never provide ANY balance - it's GOP all the way for them and they have now joined the rest of the corporate show-news organizations. On a related note, there have been christian businessmen buying out stations where air america was playing and running them at a loss just to get AA off the air in their markets - just until the election is over.

Got to hand it to the

Got to hand it to the Republican media control machine. Their absolute control over the media just cowered NBC and forced the Network to remove the one sane and truthful voice of politics. Guess we Young American voters will have to look for a new network to watch coverage of the presidential and vie-presidential debates. Except for Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" and "The Rachel Maddow Show" it's bye-bye MSNBC.

Oh I liked surfing past

Oh I liked surfing past Olberman. He made me laugh with anger. After the last 28 years we have got to fight fire with fire. You all online know the facts: smaller govts. while breaking the Unions, go figure. By the end of who ever wins next term, the net with hight def Tv's in gathering places, along with you tube, Truthout, Moveon.org and who knows what by then is going to bury the MSM, and I wish it was sooner.

no more msnbc for me.

no more msnbc for me.

I agree with the earlier

I agree with the earlier posts. KO is the BEST reporter, truth teller, and clearly among the brightest in an increasingly low brow industry. Who ever said the press was supposed to be neutral? It is a shame and a sad day for this country. I almost want to NEVER watch NBC/MSNBC again, but then, where will I get my real news without Keith? LOVE HIM!!! Give him back his slot or else!!!!!

Honesty no longer is

Honesty no longer is appreciated in the news business. Who else but Matthews and Olbermann will actually challenge a bold-faced lie told by a political operative. (OK, Campbell Brown challenged McCain's guy, Tucker Bounds, to simply answer one question - and McCain angrily cancelled his interview with Larry King. Evidence that politicians make you pay for asking them to tell the truth.) The whole damn "news" business is so concerned with being "fair and balanced" that the public never gets the truth. NBC is just another business - certainly not interested in providing incisive coverage of politics. The network could have filled an entire evening analyzing the lies of the GOP convention speeches, but simply let them sink into the American public.

Stifling the truth is what

Stifling the truth is what it's about. Can't have anybody getting out of line from the propaganda machine. So now it's going to be praise for McCain and Palin and ridicule of Obama and Biden 24/7 on all news channels until the end of the election. Oh, and don't forget the polls. Who are the people who create the polls? Think they are not bought out? After all, it's one individual who reports the "results" to the "news" media. Add to that the scores of compromised election machines (DRE's and OPSCAN's) and the scores of embedded crooked judges and voila! a close election "lost in the last few minutes due to the Bradley effect". Care to guess the outcome? WE ALL NEED TO GET BUSY!! DONATE YOUR TIME AND MONEY TO TRUTH CANDIDATES AND SIGN UP AS A POLL WORKER OR POLL WATCHER AT YOUR ELECTION PRECINCTS!!

I had thought that MSNBC/NBC

I had thought that MSNBC/NBC was the one place I might hear a modicum of truth. Instead, it has now joined the herd living the parallel myth-life. Your whole crew of people, led by Keith and Chris--and including the seemingly sincere, but Republican Scarborough, and even the wacko Buchanan, made a mosaic from which one could hear all sides debated. I guess I just didn't expect you to cave and get on the tail end of our march toward facism. I hope you have no thoughts of taking Hardball, Countdown, or Rachel's new show off the air. If so, I will have to resort to the horrors of Blitzer. At least CNN does some interesting investigative reports while you're airing your crime catchems. Eliminate Olbermann and the rest, and many will never buy another advertised product from your CORPORATE sponsors. What journalistic cowardice!!!

No Bush Critic, All Bush

No Bush Critic, All Bush Channel, Constantly Bush Stations. The "networks" and even cable are dream world of acceptance and ignorance. Olberman merely represents the outrage at criminality and blatant stupidity. I can only receive him on web excerpts ,which Truthout helps with. Katty Cowlick and the "acceptable" acceptors of ignorance are as bad as the Limbaughs and Becks who represent the "neutrality" of electronic media today. "Liberal" MEANS intelligent and open to new ideas. There sure isn't any in the electronic media, except Olberman.

I live in Canada and enjoy

I live in Canada and enjoy Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews very much. A anchorman has to be very intelligent and should tell it like it is. These guys are very good at their jobs and if a conservative does not like to hear the truth, well too bad. The rest of the world likes to hear the truth. I was looking forward to listening to those two guys on election night. I think this decision should be reconsidered. It will be a loss. C. in Canada

It's really a sad day when

It's really a sad day when the only network that had the balls to put some truth on the air just had them shrivel up. I realize that Keith is over the top, but someone has to tell the truth. Are they going to muzzle Rachel Maddow too? I trust NBC is getting huge kickbacks for cowtowing to the GOP.

When it comes to news

When it comes to news ANYWHERE among corporate media, the ONLY person I trust to give me the truth is Keith Olbermann. As a former Old School radio news person, he pulls no punches and I honor and respect his willingness to risk the public ire to give me the knowledge I need as an independent voter. Perhaps the powers to be should fully research all the candidates and see the complete picture pertaining to each and what is hidden or sugar coated or purposely left out of their reporting to get our votes. So far, over these past several years, the news media has done a great disservice to our country. Clearly, this is not a Free Press unless it's on the Internet and not a corporate entity. I find Keith to be the ONE courageous reporter on TV today.

Olbermann pulls no punches.

Olbermann pulls no punches. Now that all the news on TV will be one-sided, we will keep the set off in Texas and go back to reading balanced news in the NYT, the Post, Newsweek, and certain websites as well as listen to NPR. Too bad not everyone can read but then most who vote can read or listen to NPR to be fully informed.

I seriously doubt FOX news

I seriously doubt FOX news "played it safe" with their dedicated anchors during the DNC. We all watched it. I wonder why Tucker Carlson lost his show on MSNBC? The executives at MSNBC are a lot too easily embarassed about who they really are which are left leaning news producers. In today's news environs - that's okay. The same standard applies to the left as the right. It's not the best trend to continue forever. I think news executives will eventually recognize that people are onto the whole left/right falsehoods. They'll stop insulting American intellects by presenting different faces on the same party. Then they'll hopefully straighten up and start reporting more news. I just happen to think that MSNBC handles their news manners better than FOX. Even if I don't agree with whatever perspective is in the pipline at MSNBC, I've always felt that their network had better manners. That is what is going on here. Good manners and discipline.

This is a step in the right

This is a step in the right direction -- to quit using anchor men just as commentators. Serious news demands serious reporting and a separation from "commentary." There's room for commentary but not the vicious, hard left vs. hard right fare that is there only for the red meat effect. With that said, I do fear that MSNBC is back-benching of one of the few voices that speaks out against McCain and the corporate oligarchy.

The same kind of corporatist

The same kind of corporatist censorship was perpetrated by Air America Radio on veteran talk show host Randi Rhodes. She told them to get stuffed and is now doing very well on the Nova M Network. You can still hear her on many of the same stations as before. So much for unbiased journalism. NBC is not unbiased, its a wimpy corporatist shill. I haven't watched NBC for some time. I get my news from the Internet and occasionally from MSNBC or CNN. At the very least, Olbermann is honest about his bias, which is more than you can say for "FOX Noise". I find Olbermann refreshingly engaging and entertaining, ESPECIALLY when he disagrees with his co-hosts. Perhaps that is why he does well with the younger demographics. Things that make you go "Humm"...

Just goes to show what a

Just goes to show what a glass jaw all those neocon operatives have. They can sure dish it out but when it comes to taking a punch they go crying to big daddy to get rid of the meanie. So sorry Keith, but no good deed goes unpunished. Just one more bushwhack to be added to our collective national misery.

I don't have to watch NBC

I don't have to watch NBC News. I can do without all programming on NBC. There are alternatives. Before I stop watching, I'm making a list of advertisers, things not to buy. Easy and if everyone will follow along, we're free of this nonsense.

-"When will the 4th estate

-"When will the 4th estate do their job and actually begin telling the truth instead of telling us what they've been told to say."- Though it appears most certain that the corporate media is being told what to say, we must remember that the core interests they cater to (not the least of which is the 'ol bottom line), dictate the insatiable need to ride the runnaway train of the profit (loco)motive! They are not only compliant, they are very much complicit beneficiaries.

Shame! Shame! Shame! And

Shame! Shame! Shame! And we call ourselves a free country? Which Republican money pot paid MSNBC off? Will Rachel Maddow and John Stewart be the next to go? Change is indeed in the air. Now McCain is Abel to go on any attack he wants, with no likelihood that anyone with any brains will dare question his lies and distortions. And once Baracuda Palin starts ranting in her shrill way with the lies she is more than likely to tell, we will indeed look like Goebbels; land. Shame on the cowards who made the MSNBC decision! Oh for the days of Ben Bradlee and Kathryn Graham! Oh for the courage of an Edward R. Murrow. They kept us out of tyranny. But "Change is coming, my friends," and John McBush Cain is bringing it.

When I first listened to

When I first listened to Keith Olberman's Special Comments on Countdown, over a year ago, I was shocked and enthralled by his dedication to bring out in the open non-censored facts and arguments that the mainstream media had so far kept under the blanket to maintain its non partisan image. I admired Olberman's perspective, his eloquence and his passion for truth, but I simultaneously wondered and worried about how long it would take before his big boss dispose of him. Keith Olberman has the disadvantage of being intelligent, perspicacious and courageous, and these qualities do not sit well with the deranged mentality of bigotry and ignorance spreading in this country like a bad case of infectious disease. Especially over this last week, Olberman has put a balm over my anxieties. Since he was still standing in the line of the MSNBC's pundits and anchors in the tumult of the Palin's whirlwind, I held on to that hope that at least someone in the mainstream media still cared to offer some sense of counterbalance to the right wingers' propaganda. I counted on Olberman to say outright what needed to be told about a Miss Redneck Hero, religious extremist, power abuser and foreign policy ignorant, never mind domestic policy, once she gets under the spotlight of the press. By pulling Olberman from a high rated show, MSNBC has unrolled the red carpet for the clan of fake mavericks right up to the White House's doorsteps. Wake up America! Carole Auger-Richard

The company that make war

The company that make war weaponry pulling someone who stands up to a bullying, immoral criminal organization masquerading as a political administration...and we're surprised? Remember Phil Donahue? David Gregory is a lightweight, which is exactly what they want. When the ratings plummet, they will understand how valuable Keith has been in being the conscience of those who always knew that the war was based on lies...someone who points out hypocrisy and shallowness and isn't afraid to tell the truth. This is a disastrous move and there will be consequences. The FOX is in the hen house and this move might actually mean the election. And we call ourselves a democracy?

Welcome to Amerika, where

Welcome to Amerika, where journalist like Amy Goodman are arrested for showing the truth, and commentators like Olberman are silenced for doing the same. Don't y'all feel SECURE?!

NBC and MSNBC execs got no

NBC and MSNBC execs got no guts! Who are they pandering to? The conservative audience? I doubt it --- those folks only watch FoxNews. If those unnamed execs had guts they'd reverse themselves and put Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews back on as anchors with David Gregory.

This latest announcement

This latest announcement about Olberman and Matthews only confirms what I have felt for a long time -- only more so, since the current election campaigns kickedin and it was obvious which candidate the media has sought to support. No surprise there -- McCain, of course. Even CBS, which I used to think was a little more open to at least a centrist view, is nearly impossible to watch anymore. Harry Reed, as the morning news anchor fawns all over McCain and makes excuses for his weaknesses. Meanwhile, Obama gets second-class coverage or none at all. Dear Maggie Rodriguez, so perky in her short-sleeved tight-fitting tops, is basically a typical Cuban right-winger who appears to have no critical intelligence regarding the economic issues that McCain has no intention of addressing in any effective fashion. He can't because he has proven to be a stooge of the right wing. I have pretty much given up on a ll the main network channels. They are only relevant as mouthpieces of the right. It makes me feel like we are living more and more in a third-world state -- where a militaristic nationalist government controls the media for the sake of preserving the power of an oppressive corporate-controlled media. Please, no more hypocritical complaints about the lack of a free press in China. Alternative, meaning normal, voices are silenced in the USA as well.

Oh good we now have David

Oh good we now have David Gregory who was asking (the tuff) questions when Scott McClellan,Tony Snow, and Ari Fleischer was in the white house. We all know how that turned out.

I'll stop believing that we

I'll stop believing that we are dealing with a right wing conspiracy to suppress contradictory opinions on mass TV when Fox News follows NBC's suit. Bets, anyone ?

The last thing these

The last thing these networks want to do is tell the truth. I'm sure Olbermann will get through this just fine, but shame on NBC. If I have to hear Brokaw or Williams again....

"Ratings"? I think NBC's

"Ratings"? I think NBC's news division is essentially a "loss leader" for the real money maker: War. If it comes to a choice between losing a few ratings points versus risking an outbreak of peace, you ought to know what NBC's choice will be.

Damn the Constitution! Full

Damn the Constitution! Full speed hard right!! Keith Olbermann has been a voice for truth and sanity, and the corporate wonks couldn't stand that. Their income comes from fellow corporate wonks who have bought the GOP and shoved their deadly "principles" down the country's collective throat. Now, with a sinking economy, an unwarranted war, a wrecked infrastructure, and general collapse of the"public interest," these pirates are desperate to keep the public sufficiently in the dark to ensure their reelection, and MSNBC is out to aid and abet them. Journalism, anyone? Print papers still have "Op-Ed" columns -- but MSNBC doesn't get it.

Gosh, the station who runs

Gosh, the station who runs "truelife" old cop shows and old porn collector shows and old "truelife" whodoneits and old "Hangin'out at Pelican Bay shows the whole freakin' weekend, throws away hours of morning viewing on the opinions of Joe Scarborough and wants me to watch is now bullying ( or trying to) the only talk show host I watch. Hmmmm, off to Fox hinterlands with MSNBC.

Sorry if I'm repeating

Sorry if I'm repeating already-known news, but Keith and Chris will have MORE freedom to call out evil as commentators than as anchors. This is good. And Rachel Maddow's nightly hour debuts tonight, Sept. 8, 9PM, MSNBC

Countdown was my only 'must

Countdown was my only 'must see' on TV. What else was there to counterbalance Oliley and company? I listened to CNN, in essence, endorse Palin with their report from Alaska that didn't discuss the huge amount of pork Wasilla got or her lie about the plane sale.

a note to Keith Olbermann -

a note to Keith Olbermann - If you believe your employer has thrown you under the bus, please consider Link TV. And to all of you who will not watch NBC/MSNBC consider watching Link-TV This is the home of Amy Goodman; it is an independent TV supported only by us, citizens not corporations. If your cable provider doesn't offer it, please call them and ask them to make Link TV available to you.

"Olbermann has been a hero

"Olbermann has been a hero with left-leaning viewers..." Left-leaning my A--! Olberman and Matthews are the only reason I watch MSNBC. They are two of the too few commentators who actually appeal to viewers with a BRAIN. of which there are apparently also too few judging from the prevalence of reality shows and the absence of much worth watching these days. F*#% you, MSNBC, for this decision! May you rot in H*#$ with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their like! I guess now we'll be fed more corporate-media nicey nicey-to-idiot Republicans pap. Well, I don't have to watch it.

Did anybody actually expect

Did anybody actually expect the corporate media to project anything but smoke and mirrors? The 'critics' and the orchestrated 'sacking' of the critics are simple orwellian calculus exercises. attention span zero, nooz at eleven.

I agree that Fox will have a

I agree that Fox will have a field day - and O'Reilly will be bloviating to the hilt. Too bad that NBC doesn't have the courage or the sense to let the commentators speak the truth. I am for both Chris and Keith being reinstated.

That headline is most

That headline is most misleading...He still has his own program, will be a commentator and has had his contract extended through the NEXT presidential campaign. I can see why they moved Matthews and Olbermann aside, but picking Gregory to replace them??? He's a putz It will be interesting to see how he handles the analysis phase of their programming where Pat Buchanan, Mika, Redneck Joe will be sitting across from Rachel, Tweety and Keith...

Having Gregory, a newsman,

Having Gregory, a newsman, anchor election night and the debate coverage with Olbermann and Matthews as commentators makes more sense than the current situation. Having a balance in coverage is important, unless the far left of my party just wish to have their own version of the Fox Noise Channel. It would still be necessary to have moderate and conservative voices added to the mix. Olbermann, a show I personally try to watch daily, and Matthews were clearly pro-Obama throughout the primaries. Matthews seem to relish in his hopes to be the one to bring down the Clintons. I believe he thinks himself to be the new Tim Russert, someone he will never match up to. If I had my way Matthews, and his sometimes sexist views, whould be replaced by Rachel Maddow or Stephanie Miller.

I watched the Democratic

I watched the Democratic Convention on C-Span because I wanted to see the whole thing. For news, I watch Countdown. Most of the news comes to me through the Internet first, then I watch it on TV. I am a journalist. The people on TV are "pundits," at least they think they are. Journalism means speaking the truth and I learned that the hard way, then wrote a book about it. The so-called "journalists" who bow to corporate interests are learning the hard way.

I think this perfectly-timed

I think this perfectly-timed move, this election-season cleaning-out of Olbermann's truth-telling, is powerful evidence that (MS)NBC is not just influenced by the GOP, but entirely owned and run by them. The insatiably greedy executives who run this network can tolerate only so much light shone on the myths of the right, and every four years, their threshold for this pain drops precipitously. Beyond this threshold, Olbermann's iconoclasm boosts the profits of (MS)NBC less than it threatens the grasping free-ride that all corporations enjoy these days, and this cannot be tolerated. But this specific corporation won't kill itself to save the rest: (MS)NBC is no martyr, and we can use this. Let's respond in ways that cost this network money. Turn off your TV. Cancel your cable or dish feed. Boycott the biggest sponsors of the worst shows on the air. Call or write these sponsors and (MS)NBC to tell them the exact reason you're not giving your dollars or attention to them any more. And support candidates who support regulating this industry the way it should be done.

The same business of lies

The same business of lies and suppression of information by the press caught Europians off guard when fascism rolled over their back yards. Stupidity is doing the same thing while expecting a different result. Since those controlling information want fascism that's not stupid. If we lack the motor skills to turn off the boob tube, put down the paper, change the channel, we're due for the equivalent of a war rolling over our back yard. Protest and survive.

Keith if you read this I

Keith if you read this I have a ups box with a web cam and a mic reddy for shipping to you!would be sad if none of your commentarys were not on youtube . I know it would be a pay cut but I think you would have a lot of fun sitting beside Lou Dobbs on CNN .be true to your self and good luck.

Well, folks you haven't seen

Well, folks you haven't seen anything yet. There is the greatest TRUTH yet to be revealed. And that is promised to happen on 14 October 2008. The news networks will be caught with their pants down and all they will be able to do is stand in awe, as the greatest lie of our generation is revealed before our very eyes. And all the corporate control and denial will finally count for nothing. The result will be– the New Paradigm will begin. NBC, FOX, and the like will count for nothing. From then on, there will be no more secrets and no more lies.

Wake up America! Another

Wake up America! Another voice is being at least partially stilled. There are no restraints on the Rush Limbaughs and Bill O'Reillys these days--but Oldermann must go, says NBC. So there's another suspect major televison channel for the multitude of busy Americans who don't take time to do much reading but watch a lot of TV. I pretty much abandoned ABC some time ago after its demonstration of biased programming and non-programming during the last presidential election. Guess this leaves me CBS among the big 3. And there's still PBS. Meanwhile, I'll be monitoring all the channels, especially ABC again, in the coming weeks--to see which ones begin waving the flag in an energetic way with old war movies and the like, attempting to give McCain a John Wayne facade.

This is outrageous!! Keith

This is outrageous!! Keith Olberman was a beacon of truth among all the lies spread by FOX. I have sent email to MSNBC telling them so. you can direct comments to letters@msnbc.com to tell them your opinion.

More hypocrisy. Fox "News"

More hypocrisy. Fox "News" runs the RCN Cable Channel for years on end, freely mixing real news with opinion, but if Olbermann let's slip some of his opinions, and people complain, it's demotion. What spineless filth the TV news directors are. I guess I won't be watching Election Night on MSNBC as planned, as Gregory is as anodyne as it gets. Perhaps PBS or BBC America this year.

A brief postscript: I

A brief postscript: I flipped through all of the channels one time yesterday evening. There were all sorts of McCain-the-her0/Bush/Giuliani slanted things being aired at that particular time. A movie "Flight 83" about one of the 9/11 flights, another about the 9/11 event itself . . . and still another that appeared to be along the same general line. Also, at least a couple of war-oriented movies (surprisingly not starring John Wayne). And on three channels, McCain was speaking. No sign of Obama (or anything about the environment, global warming, domestic poverty or anything similar) anywhere. I didn't pause long at any of the stops or note the channels--all of which I will do next time. Try it for yourself. I doubt we'll see The Grapes of Wrath aired anywhere this campaign season, but we'll be seeing lots of emotional wartime-glory stuff. Can't have Patriotism without being war-like, you know. Aaaargh!

Let's all nominate for

Let's all nominate for "Worst Person(s) in the world" those who decided to dump Keith Oberman! They have permanent status as such until they bring Oberman back.

I am a 68 crone who is sick

I am a 68 crone who is sick to death of all the gutless reporters pretending to be "fair and balanced." Too often that's just an excuse for not being honest, courageous, or quick-witted enough to ask the right questions. They're trying to dance a minuet with ruthless politicians who don't really give a rat's ass about this country or its lower and middle classes. One could even argue that the dumbing-down of this nation has been largely done with the willing complicity of this "fair and balanced" elite. Olbermann has fire in his belly (or what Henry Miller called "the Holy Ghost in his bowels"). In my experience, it's rare to find males with the ability to see through sham and the willingness and wit to expose it for what it is. Bill Maher has it, also Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert. Sometimes Chris Matthews does too but he uses it in fickle ways so I don't trust where he's coming from (his gushing over Sarah Palin last week was the final straw for me). I discovered Olbermann over a year ago through Truthout's transcripts of his marvelous "rants." I've been a devoted fan ever since. I've had great respect for MSNBC over these many months for giving Olbermann the freedom he uses so well, so exuberantly. I'm not always thrilled with the Worst Person or Oddball features (although I can't help laughing either), but the rest of his Countdown is a joy I look forward to (I do resent the fact that it isn't aired 7 nights a week). I watched MSNBC's coverage of the democrats for 4 nights from 7pm-2am and I thought Olbermann, Matthews, Maddow et al. did a superbly intelligent job. I didn't watch the republicans nearly as much -- can't stand their sanctimonious platitudes, McBush's self-satisfied facial expressions, the malicious glee on too many faces in the audience when a speaker zinged Obama with another blatant lie, and the way that 4 month old Palin infant was passed like a football from Bristol to Cindy McCain to the father, to the youngest daughter, and after that I lost track of where the poor baby was. The only reason I found the RNC bearable at all was the presence of Olbermann and Maddow. The coverage didn't sparkle as much as the previous week in Denver, but that's probably because Olbermann was anchoring long-distance. Regardless, he kept grounding the charade in common sense and sanity. I was grateful to him, grateful to MSNBC. (I'm glad I wasn't watching when the 9/11 film was aired. I would have been furious. The Repugs have no moral right to coopt a national tragedy for their own crass purposes. Olbermann was right -- it shouldn't have been aired.) And now there's this "demotion." Fortunately, Olbermann still has Countdown and will surely bring his unique style to his analysis of the debates (I plan to watch them on C-Span and avoid all the usual pundits). But Olbermann really needs to be there anchoring the election night results. We've lost Tim Russert's wise hand on American politics, we can't lose Olbermann's too. I hope Truthout has a way to get all these comments to MSNBC. The "demotion" decision apparently was made at the corporate level and I suspect many of the actual workers at MSNBC are as upset, or more so, as we are. I'm hoping they can band together and insist that the top brass reconsider their decision and undo it.

i am real pissed off.Keith

i am real pissed off.Keith spoke the truth. I will not watch MSNBC RE INSTATE Keith

Keith and Matthews are

Keith and Matthews are losing their shows, they have been taken off the anchor spot for the debate and election coverage. They will still have their regular shows and will be commenting during the debates and election. It sucks, but its not as bad as some have mistakenly assumed. By the way, please email all cable and msm outlets, every show you can think of, and expose Palin's nutjob church cult for what it is. Here are the links..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K_1Eit0pxM http://www.believershome.com/html/pentecostal__charismatic__thir.html http://www.letusreason.org/Latrain11.htm http://www.talk2action.org/story/2008/9/8/114332/7479 watch these and see if you aren't as alarmed as I am... Seriously

Keeping it all in

Keeping it all in perspective, it bears repeating that Olbermann still has Countdown, unfettered, and NBC has given Rachel Maddow her own show starting tonight. It's true that while these are the very few lights in the wilderness of the MSM, I'll cut NBC some slack for not only supporting Countdown but adding Maddow. (Of course money talks, and MSNBC owes much of its success to Olbermann, so I would say they are unlikely to issue any further sanctions.) But in a perverse way actually the fact that Olbermann will not be covering the election makes it easier for me to not watch their coverage, because I can't stand the rest of their wimpy so-called anchors, a bunch of bloviating blowhards all (except Maddow, and now we can see her also unfettered in her show), including Matthews; Even though Matthews can occasionally rise above his bombast to speak truth to power, it's mixed in with all his other sexist and trivial blather, so no loss for me. Gregory, Brokaw, Williams, all toadies, all corporate shills. And I won't have to see Buchanan or Scarborough or any of the other rightwing bonkjobs MSNBC seems to think they need for balance, I guess. So a larger issue for me is in fact why NBC deigns to give Buchanan a platform, and inmbues him with some sort of gravitas.

This is BS!! MSNBC "The

This is BS!! MSNBC "The worst people in the world!"

BOYCOTT NBC and MSNBC.

BOYCOTT NBC and MSNBC. Don't watch the Tonight Show. Don't watch NBC sports, don't watch Ellen. If enough of us just don't watch, maybe the fascist overlords will get the hint. If you can't tear yourself away from NBsee you later... don't buy the products you that are advertised. AND, instead of just writing here, write to NBC as I have.

Another "crone" speaking

Another "crone" speaking here: this one age 74. Keith Olbermann was the only news person giving any credibility at all to to TV news. I never listen to Fox, NBC or CBS. Now I won't bother to listen to MSNBC either. To prevent us as a nation from continuing down our present road of denial and lies, we have only one chance: Elect Obama! Otherwise all I have left to say to this crumbling empire is what Keith signs off with: "Good night and good luck!"

Let us not forget that not

Let us not forget that not too long ago it was MSNBC's memo that instructed all hosts that they had to have at least two conservatives for every one liberal. It seems that they need Scarborough and at least one other conservative to balance Olberman now. Here we go again!

MSNBC is obviously bowing to

MSNBC is obviously bowing to the cowardly powers that be. Right wing neo-con lies will still be exposed but it's just too bad MSNBC is managed by fruity loops. Keith for President.

Remember when Phil Donohue,

Remember when Phil Donohue, MSNBC,s most popular host prior to the illegal invasion of Iraq was also taken off the air? This is nothing short of the stifling of democracy! It Can't Happen Here? It can and it is!

another voice speaking truth

another voice speaking truth and you cant deal with him so you relegate him to weather reports thank you Keith for your consistent honesty

Let's face it. It's not

Let's face it. It's not called the corporate media for no reason. The truth has been masked by money and corruption. Those journalists who do have the courage to stand up and tell the truth are axed. I fear for America: when our reality is fed by lies, how can re construct any other kind of truth? The bewildered masses eat up the hate and anger of O'Riley, and others at FOX .

Well, I can no longer watch

Well, I can no longer watch CNN because its name should be FOXY CNN! Now I'm disappointed with MSNBC, I refuse to watch any right wings stations. My favorite is Keith Olbernann and if he is not allowed to voice his opinion I might as well throw out my TV! Because now all stations are run by the right wings. Shame on MSNBC! Well, just to keep up with what is going on I will watch PBS from now.

I can accept NBC making a

I can accept NBC making a decision to put a less controversial guy in during the debates and Gregory is easy to view and rarely shows any emotion. Chris is very childish and difficult to watch for too long. However, Keith brings excitement and opinion to any show he is on and I promise that, if he is removed from MSNBC, I will be removed also from all NBC watching. Keith and Jon Stewart are the only men on TV that consistently tell the truth.

so so sad. who is going to

so so sad. who is going to CARE now about the men and women who gave their lives last week after McCain says it "doesn't matter how long we stay in Iraq." Who is going to list their names and cry with the mothers and fathers? Who ARE you people? Does EVERYONE have to bow to the conservative right? I KNOW Fox news does, is, but YOU too? More importantly, WHO are THEY? Wrong, Wrong move.

With this move, MSNBC has

With this move, MSNBC has revealed its true colorsβ€”yes, it's shown itself to be a complete hand-wringing ninny, cowering in the face of the Conservative, blow-hard, Rove-wrangled machine that considers no bullying-tactic too dirty or lie unfair in the advance their Conservative agenda. And all that about wanting more balanced coverageβ€”just subterfuge. It's not as if Olbermann dominated MSNBC's coverag, after all Todd & Brokaw, decidedly Republican, have had plenty of airtime. Having Keith Olbermann all these months has been too good to be true. Olbermann (and Matthews) added much-needed historical intelligence & character to the political debate. Moreover, every time Keith would go all out in a passionate Edward R. Morrow moment, I would jump out of my seat, pump my fist, and yell "Atta boy!" Explain to me why is ok for the FOX newscasters to have a POV (a network agenda), but not Olbermann? Oh, I forgotβ€”the Conservative agenda operates on the double-standard. Well MSNBC fell right into that trap. Olbermann put the fun back in politics. I've been utterly fired up since the beginning of the year, knowing there was at least one voice for truth in the wilderness that is network TV. This move by MSNBC completely insults all of us who are smart enough to relish an educated point of view in our national debate. We need more informed voices, not more conformity. We're smart enough to sort it all out for ourselves. Thanks to Keith for his time in service to an ideal. Yes, I'm going to miss him. And thank God, Jon Stewart doesn't work for NBC.

Dances With Roves Gregory

Dances With Roves Gregory "impartial?" That's just rich. He's so in the tank for McBush and the Shrub himself, he's unwatchable.

Big oil backing Rich white

Big oil backing Rich white folk, barking their orders from their high and comfy Fox News throne.....with Limbaugh, Hannidy, O'Reilly, Savage, G Gordon Liddy, Lars Larson and the endless symphony of blaring one-note big bizz backers that drown the airwaves, whitewash our minds, then pick our pockets.......are in a tiffy.......because the guys on center stage aren't drooling over the Republican heir apparent on a regular basis. Eventually big business will order everyone under them to walk lock-step with the money. Everyone knows this guy supposedly from the 'center' is (to quote the great Helen Thomas, one of the few white house reporters with any guts left) a lap dog of the Bush's. I'll take her word for it! Label me a 'liberal' and tune me out, but something Stinks at MSNBC!

Liberal press, my $##!

Liberal press, my $##! Corporate America controls the press. All the GOP has to do is chant a station name at its convention and the corporate money changers quake in their boots. Olberman is one of the best things to happen to the television news in several years. Bye bye NBC news (of any type)for this viewer!!!!

This is realy scary! I mean

This is realy scary! I mean I'm no Polyanna but I felt like we could always count on at least one network or at least one or two shows where you could hear someone represent something from the other side or dare to say that "the Emperor has no clothes!' The decision to censor coverage by another major news network is downright fascist! The past 8 years have eroded one of the most basic and precious cornerstones of our democracy... freedom of the press! This straight from Webster's...fascism is .." a philosphy of government marked by oppressive, stringent social control and belligerent nationalisn." Ask yourself this, "why is Bill ORiley still on the air! Thank God for the internet!..oh, forgot a few out there don't even know how to send emails and think that it might be endearing to admit that in a national election! PLEASE, PLEASE, if you have to drag your sideline sitting friends to the voting booths DO IT! We can't afford 4 more years of this!

I can't believe that the

I can't believe that the only intelligent newscaster on television is be sent to the back of the bus. I will not purchase another product advertised on this network. As a matter of fact, I will lock-out these channels from my home viewing options. Keith should be constructing the questions to be asked in the upcoming debates. Surely NBC will allow him to anchor the shows.

I had hoped that the

I had hoped that the candidates would get into policies and platforms rather than canned questions from what will now simply be the same old right wing media questions, comments, and coverage we got the past two elections. No one has brought up the obviously forbidden question, "Could McCain have PTSD? How could he not with 5 years as a prisoner?! And it wasn't being treated post Viet Nam. Symptoms include, ahem- volatility, anger, erratic behavior and unpredictability, and loss of memory. Who will have a chance to ask the forbidden questions now? Why is it ok for Fox to say shaming remarks and lies but if someone fights back or tries to get to the truth, they get canned? Wonder who paid Foxy NBC off?

I will continue to watch NBC

I will continue to watch NBC ( Leno only until he is gone ) and long enough to see who the advertisers are so I can make sure to let them know I am boycotting them. We can thank Conan for his comments about "the NBC Left News Media coverage for the conventions." Byeeeee dude. Olberman and Matthews were the few good things NBC had going. Who bought you off, Foxy NBC? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

It was the only show we

It was the only show we watched! Was a Bush behind this change? How about Cheney? Who owns MSNBC? I have a feeling it is a very wealthy Republican ! Shame on changing these two men. I am so worried that voting day will be utter chaos. Are there watchers at all the polls? Will the Republicans once again cheat their country? We need these two men to address this issue. Again-who owns MSNBC?

I feel that NBC and MSNBC

I feel that NBC and MSNBC probably won't miss the patronage of me, my friends, my family & my extended family, as well as my co-workers. However, their sponsors might! It is my intention to notify each and every sponsor of these two stations that I will no longer purchase any of their products. I further will NOT purchase any of these products for my company. NBC and MSNBC need to bring back Keith Oberman and Chris Matthews! Until they do, I will be watching Public Broadcasting.

hearing the various

hearing the various conservative pundits and polis ear bashing americans about the so-called liberal press is a joke everywhere but in america. from an australian perspective, the american media market has all the openess and scrutiny of circa 1950s soviet media. can the end of the republic be far off given the intellectual impoverishment of its population?

I too shall boycott the

I too shall boycott the products advertised and the station itself in response to this action As a WW2 veteran who feels that it was all a waste. All that destruction was in vain . Viet Nam and Iraq, are examples of a species gone "ape". Those who are invested in the future per progeny, can only see darkness and agony ahead. We Americans today are the "good Germans" of the Hitler years. Santayana said it as did Niemoller. We do not "listen" !

Regarding all the comments

Regarding all the comments saying "I will no longer watch NBC, will write to sponsors that I will boycott", etc. You guys just don't get it. They sure don't care about your little protest. It is more important to silence the dissident voices than to sell toothpaste.

I am waiting to see a

I am waiting to see a special commentary from Keith on what he has planned. I have faith that Keith will not let us down and use this crap for the non-dark side advantage. Don't forget that MSNBC is doing this to make money like any other corp, they don't have Keith on TV right now for the good of us citizens.

I watch Keith whenever I

I watch Keith whenever I can, and I'm happy to see that Countdown will continue, followed by Rachel Maddow's new show. What a line-up! I agree with" billy in Cincy" that Keith will have more freedom to express his views as a commentator than he had as the anchor. I do appreciate the passion with which his fans have expressed their outrage at his "demotion". It seems an unfortunate use of that word. His contract with MSNBC continues, and his voice will be heard during the debates and the election programming, but he will be less constrained. As a commentator, he will not be expected to be unbiased.

Yes, it's so great that

Yes, it's so great that MSNBC has continued to let truth stream from its programs...and may that continue...the anchoring for the election doesn't need pettiness...I watch that stuff on C-Span. Olbermann is great, and I will continue to watch his show nightly...Matthews I can do without; he's just too "cute" for my good. Gregory...hopefully, will do his newsman's best...and Rachel's show was clean and lovely tonight, with plenty of substance and no extra silliness...well...except the extra eye make-up! Onward and Upward with Obama! May this country re-start our moral and ethical approach to governance!

I've been thinking about his

I've been thinking about his since yesterday. This is where MSNBC misses Russert. I know this is not an apples to apples comparison, but where CNN has the highly credible and objective independent David Gergen, MSNBC has no one even close to his combination of cred and chops. I like Olbermann a lot, and find Matthews charming and, occasionally, quite incisive, but he's mercurial. And for all the experience Gregory has, he occasionally seems to be behind the latest news and misses or at least will not challenge a lie. I appreciate Pat Robertson's intelligence, experience and command of history, but the old hand's gleeful partisanship undercuts his attributes. Likewise, Joe Scarborough has his lucid moments, but always bubbling under the surface is the person who wishes he was still a Republican in Congress. Mika Brzezinksi is credible, intelligent and principled, but is not particularly well-served as Scarborough's foil, and though very experienced, has not really established her cred to the degree Maddow has. Maddow's consistent command of issues and prep puts her in a position where she can go toe to toe with Robertson, a very informed junkyard dog of a debater, as she did on the first night of her show very effectively. Olbermann is a truth teller and has balls, is smart, is funny, is passionate but can be unwise. And anchors really need to be perceived as wise. It's ironic -- as a sports freak, you'd think Olbermann would know you don't win the game by swinging for the fence every time you go to the plate. I'll be way less likely to watch Gregory, but Keith is at least as much to blame for this as his bosses.

Wow -- I'm sorry but I got

Wow -- I'm sorry but I got so wrapped up in myself I forgot to make the point in the last post. If MSNBC had a consistently centered, credible, experienced, objective person in the mix, it would give Olbermann the cover to do what he does so well, and they wouldn't have to worry so much about the entire network being identified with their most dominant personality. Regardless -- on election night, it's dog-eat-dog for ratings. I'll bet they change their minds before then.

Olbermann proves you CAN

Olbermann proves you CAN fool all the people all the time. He arrived in Los Angeles years ago to do sports and spent off air time searching for his "online personality" Short hair, long hair, mustache, no mustache. He was a joke and didn't last long. I am not so sure his grey hair isn't painted on today. Olbermann has made so many personality and appearance changes in the years I've seen him - I don't think he knows who HE IS anymore. This guy is like a bad penny - and those who don't know the difference between news and opinionated news shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Truth - funny how that word

Truth - funny how that word is used by both sides for opposite ends of the same issue. When I hear people using the word I know what follows is simply opinion. Olberman does not speak "truth" he speaks opinions - its just so happens you like his opinion - that doesn't make it truth. His brand of humor and commentary have their place - but not a a news desk anchor. I find him bitter, angry, humorless, petty and unwilling to allow an honest exchange occur. He much prefers - like O'Reilly - to yell at the viewer. We long ago discarded actual debates in favor of shouting down our opponent to prevent them from expressing any opinion. So for all you who keep saying Olberman speaks the truth - please get a grip. He is simply pandering to you like Rush panders to the right. You make fun of Ditto-heads (deservedly so) but you are becoming the left's version of Ditto-heads. Seek facts - especially facts that contradict your position and examine them carefully. My final word - if you expect a TV personality to give you the "truth" you are probably unqualified to vote - and probably shouldn't be driving.

This is so sad. We watch

This is so sad. We watch you, Keith, religiously and you will be so missed. Your voice and yes, your opinions are so right. Terrific job Keith, and now there will be a hole in our scheduled TV watching. Where will we be able to find you and your voice of reason?

We know they were hotheads

We know they were hotheads but they were OUR hotheads and we loved watching them. Brian is good, he needs to remain the same. Tom is a matronly snooze, (he is my age by the way). Give his show to Andrea, sooner rather than later. Sorry but Gregory is not going to cut it with this watcher, too boring. MSBC, why do you think we watched the shows? To give us a shot of life. MORONS.

Another truth-teller bites

Another truth-teller bites the dust--remember Dan Rather and the jolt he got? We never did get an explanation for where Bush was when he was supposed to be in the Naiona Guard. Keith obermann is a trusted, intelligent, courageous journalist and I will not watch MSNBC any more.

No need to overreact about

No need to overreact about the team.. no one got fired, and David Gregory is a solid performer. Let's see how it all goes... it's still better than "Fixed Noise" and the snore fest that ABC provides... I will have to say this though...CNN is getting better and that's the ball MSNC needs to keep their eye on...except for Wolf Blitzer- who is a complete TOOL

After watching the bozos on

After watching the bozos on FAUX news beat up the DNC and lauding everything during the RNC, I always knew that I would have Keith to give a realistic and open opinion on the political news and events. You have now put tape on the lips of honest discussion. I too, will make it a point to now support any sponsors of your special political events, debates and election coverage. I have always looked to NBC and it's sister stations for the best in news and opinions. You have really disappointed me and dimmed a bright star in news coverage. Your corporation slip is showing.

I will not support the

I will not support the sponsors of MSNBC's election coverage but I will still be behind Olberman and Maddow. I think MSNBC should be commended for having the guts to actually put two objective news shows on their network during the weeknights, but to remove Keith from the election anchor seat just fuels the right with their lies. Keith is the only real news I can depend on these days and his comments during the RNC were all justified. What made them controversial is that they weren't PRAISING THE FASCISTS who are in control of this country and apparently the media.

Everyone should speak out

Everyone should speak out against this. Olbermann , Amy Goodman, and Bill Moyers seem to be isolated voices when in fact they are the only reasonable reporters to answer a hypnotized, propagandized and Right-wing addled citizenry. This is not "sad" as some have suggested. It is outrageous, contributing to the destruction of our precious freedoms including the essential "freedom of the press".

They came first for the

They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time, no one was left to speak up. ~Martin Niemoeller, speaking of the Nazi’s early actions
