Can America help pull the Middle East back from the brink? This time on NOW.
While Israel and Hezbollah trade lethal volleys, the world calls for peace, but who can lead the way? On July 21 at 8:30 p.m., NOW checks in with Former Senator George Mitchell, who brokered ceasefires and peace agreements in the Balkans and Northern Ireland, for his insight into what role America can and should play in the Middle East conflict.
Also, the Chesapeake Bay becomes the latest front in the conflict between industry and environmentalists. In collaboration with Mother Jones magazine, NOW investigates how a small but important fish has pitted these vital interests against each other, and how different states are responding. Whose needs should prevail and whose should be scaled back? This time on NOW.
Note: The NOW website at www.pbs.org/now will provide additional coverage starting Friday morning, July 21. Features will include a timeline of events that sparked the current Middle East conflict and news updates, more information about protecting our oceans, how to make the most sensible seafood choices, and practical ways to effect change in your community and government.
