Sarah Palin: A Gidget for God's Truth

"The Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation," declared John McCain back in September 2007. With his vice-presidential pick of Governor Sarah Palin, he has found a winsome soul mate who is even more of a Christian nationalist, eager to use government to impose her religious views on the rest of us.

Palin's stance on abortion illustrates her approach. As she proudly declares, she sees the Bible as literally true, which leads her to believe that aborting a fetus is murder. That position contradicts our long history of common and statutory law. She then goes on to conclude that government should severely punish anyone who has an abortion or performs one, even in the case of rape or incest. She also opposes stem cell research.

McCain hears God less extremely, but the Republican platform echoes Palin, and if she ever became president, she would feel completely justified in making her religious belief a litmus test for appointees to the Supreme Court.

Her attitude toward gays and lesbians is similar, though observers in both the gay press and corporate media have misrepresented the firmness of her convictions. The confusion stems from a legal suit that some same-sex couples filed in 1999, arguing that Alaska had no right to deny domestic partners of state employees the same health and pension benefits that the state gave to married spouses. The case made its way to Alaska's Supreme Court, which ruled in 2005 that the state could not discriminate against the domestic partners.

In the political firestorm that followed, the Alaska legislature passed a bill forbidding state officials to pay the benefits. Alaska's attorney general then declared the bill unconstitutional, and the newly inaugurated Governor Palin felt legally obliged to veto it. But, she loudly proclaimed her opposition to spousal benefits for domestic partners and signed a separate bill calling for a state referendum, which she said would lay the groundwork for overturning the state Supreme Court ruling.

She also declared her long-time opposition to same-sex marriage, a position she had displayed as early as 1998 when she enthusiastically backed a constitutional amendment to ban the practice in Alaska.

"I believe that honoring the family structure is that important," she told the Anchorage Daily News in 2006. She was "not out to judge anyone and has good friends who are gay." But, she explained, her opposition grew out of her strong religious views.

Palin's religious convictions, and her willingness to use the power of government to force them on others, has won strong backing from far-right groups, such as James Dobson's Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum, and the Council for National Policy, the normally secretive network of right-wing preachers, political operatives, and fat cats who have been a major force in the Republican Party ever since they backed Ronald Reagan for president.

These overlapping groups view homosexual acts as "an abomination" and have led the fight against what Dr. Dobson calls "the radical Homosexual agenda." Focus on the Family will soon bring to Anchorage a conference on "curing homosexuality" through the power of prayer, an event that Palin's hometown church in Wasilla is actively promoting.

In the same vein, Palin has opposed extending hate crime laws to protect gays and lesbians, called for teaching creationism in public schools, and - as mayor of Wasilla - looked into banning books from the public library because they contained inappropriate language.

She described the building of a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in Alaska as "God's will," which she would work to carry out as governor.

She supports the presence of US troops in Iraq as a "task that is from God."

And she has told colleagues that Christ will return within her lifetime, which raises questions about what sort of Armageddon she has in mind.

However absurd one finds all this, Palin's religious convictions should normally remain her own private concern. But her eagerness to use public office to enforce and implement what she believes makes her beliefs a matter of enormous public importance.

If you don't believe me, just listen to the enormous support Palin is receiving from Dr. Dobson, "End Time" author Tim La Haye, and others on the Christian right. Dobson once swore he would never vote for John McCain. He now calls McCain's choice of Palin "outstanding" and is promising his enthusiastic support.

Sarah Palin is their gal, and if she is elected vice president, these warriors of God could find themselves only a heartbeat away from their long-held goal of turning America into an ultra-rightwing Christian nation.

It still remains a mystery

It still remains a mystery to me how McCain chose Palin. The right-wing chorus of praise for her is so perfect that one wonders if they had been preparing for this all along. Who mentioned her to McCain? And was she forcefully recommended by right-wing pressure groups or did he make that choice by himself, looking to pacify them? This is important, because I'd like to know if McCain is a pawn or a cynical gambler. Either way, scary. Obviously he himself doesn't buy all that God stuff, and my gut feeling is that on issues like gay marriage he really doesn't give a sh.t. So if they influenced McCain on this, they can influence him on Supreme Court Justices. Of course the Senate would need to confirm them, but recent history has shown that the democratic senate can be pretty spineless in the face of a ruthless administration. So the overturning of Roe v Wade is not more a stretch of the imagination than the choice of Palin was. What might happen then? Will states have the final word? Also, the energy policy might be fun to watch. The high-tech surveillance of citizens and rigging of elections will also be interesting. If these people get their way, the world will watch as America hurtles off the cliff. I think I will join you in France, Steve.

Of course, everyone who has

Of course, everyone who has their head screwed on right knows that God (Yahweh) a right wing, neo-con republican who's only son Jesus, since He disowned his other son, Satan, will be coming back very soon as an avenger against all those heathens who see things differently from McSame/Palin/LaHay and Dobson and their minions. After the brutal retaliation and vindictive slaughter and torture of all the non-republican believers by the angry and hostile apocaliptic Jesus, he will be found wining and dining with all the corporate believers with McSame on his right side and Palin on his left, who will have taken great pleasure watching Jesus perform his office of violent purging. Everything will sparkle with gold and silver and it will be just a grand old anti-gay time. I just can't wait...please vote for McSame and Palin so we can get to the slaughter!

'"The Constitution

'"The Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation," declared John McCain back in September 2007.' But wasn't the glory of the Constitution that it established the United States as a secular nation? And wasn't the whole basis of the US Constitution the acknowledgement of the failure, in the English Revolution and in New England Puritanism, of Ms Palin's ram-it-down-thy-neighbour's-throat moralism?

This is truly frightening.

This is truly frightening. What happened to our basic tenet of church and state separation. How fast would we go down here. It's time to work harder to get away from McCain's team. Before Palin it would not have been good if he won--now it will be disastrous.

Voters for the McCain/Palin

Voters for the McCain/Palin ticket are not stupid. Self serving, maybe - apathetic, maybe - misinformed, maybe - but not stupid. Their leaders, with the help of big oil, big business, big media, and big religion have convinced a large portion of the American people that maybe they are not so bad. For many Republicans, their lives are hunky dory and they do not want that to change, and are amoral, not immoral toward the plight of the poor. They feel they had to pull themselves up by the bootstraps, so why not everybody else. Even those with easy lives from birth believe they were somehow chosen for an easy life. And no one thinks their life is easy. The war in Iraq may be stupid, but now that we are in it, they want to win it. The really big schism for me is how self-righteous the fundamentalist Christians are. How can a fundamentalist Christian be so callous to their fellow man? SCHIP insurance for children comes to mind. How can it be that they do not seek out truth, empathy, and the willingness to let government help their fellow mankind? How can they let their leaders debase all the values and freedoms America fought so hard to keep? To set up a more fair and just system for the victims of catastrophe, the helpless and the indigent? In my opinion, that is wicked. Not stupid, but selfish wicked.

Building an oil pipeline is

Building an oil pipeline is God's will? Wow! And God told G W to invade Iraq. Who would have thought God would get into the oil business! Seem to remember the Nazi's used God's name to underwrite some of their questionable activities. Is this history repeating itself. God has become a convenience.

OMG is the only thing that

OMG is the only thing that comes to mind, separation of church and state is what this country was based on!

The socialist-religious

The socialist-religious right wing will say and do anything to stay in power this election, so watch out! The secret plots to jimmy the election by stealing votes is the most pernicious of all. In many ways this election actually represents a 'last chance' scenario for either side. Hmmmm.... Maybe she's right, this is the END?

Bring it on! Most of us SGI

Bring it on! Most of us SGI members will go to prison and even die for our Buddhist practise. Maybe that's what it's going to take to get the liberals motivated enough to act up! They can't keep us all down, and if we all act up, they'll crash, and the revolution will be in good shape. All the queers, all the Buddhists, are we going [back] in the closets? How far are we going to let this go? When will we lose that one freedom too many that sends the whole thing over the edge? Because I am queer, I chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, I'm a woman (who never needed an abortion but supports it), and a bunch of other radical things that put me in danger if these people get their way. I don't plan to go down that way. This far! No Further!! I'm with you Ralph Nader!!

This is such a good article!

This is such a good article! Word to the mother (and Father, Son & Holy Ghost)! We love you, Sarah! The Mighty Whitey Righties http://bittenbyazebravideo.wordpress.com/2008/09/02/the-mighty-whitey-righties-the-videos/

SARAH PALIN IS A ZEALOT.

SARAH PALIN IS A ZEALOT. HER RELIGIOUS SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS WILL DO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE IF SHE IS IN A SERIOUS POSITION IN GOVERNMENT.

I find Palin less like

I find Palin less like Gidget, and more like Howard Beale - "the mad prophet of the airwaves".

I too had the Gidget analagy

I too had the Gidget analagy when I watched her giving the speech at the RNC. "Gidget Goes to the White House" was my thought. Her enthusiasm in tandem with her mentality is a very frightening thing. I don't trust her devotion to God any more than I would a passionate Islamist.

Interesting how the far

Interesting how the far right riles against government interference in personal lives and activist judges, except when it is to advance their own religious beliefs, bigotry and agenda. As long as they can feel assured of a place in heaven, they simply do not care about the hell they create on earth.

If this nation is a

If this nation is a Christian nation - why did the founding fathers not restrict the influx of non-Christians or even forbid so. Coming as a legal first generation immigrant to the United States 39 years ago (yes I was baptized once and did not need to be re-born) I am finding this charade in the name of organized religion distasteful. What happened to what is written on the Statute of Liberty - last time I read i, it said "Give me your tired, your pour etc and there was no mention of hold back Jews and or any non-Christians. The United States is a MELTING POT, since when did the squabble over choice of a woman regarding her own body which only she has to live with gain more important than the economic/financial/environmental disasters that are facing the nation? A nation at war killing innocent people (we don't even know the numbers) ordered to be waged by two draft-dodgers who had "better things to do" during Vietnam? And now a new (old) WAR-MONGER and a CHRISTIAN lunatic (yes they come in female form as well) are gaining momentum. Boy am I glad to be an ex-patriot American at this point in my life....................................... in one of the FEW areas of the world where Americans are still welcome and not despised.

Wow I never realized we were

Wow I never realized we were a Christian Nation! How come we've murdered 16 million people since 1945? What kind of Christianity is that? How come we spend so much national treasure preparing to murder people? What kind of Christianity is that? How come our brothers and sisters are living in the streets? What kind of Christianity is that? If Jesus were living today, do you really think he'd be a Republican? Nobody - even Bush, McKane or what's her putz - can believe THAT! If they can then we have to take Bush's inability to read as representative of the party as a whole. This is their kind of Christianity - they simply are intellectually and morally incapable of reading and understanding the ministry of Jesus so THEY MAKE IT UP Calling these "people" Christians insults everyone in the Judao-Christian-Islamic tradition.

And so what? White women

And so what? White women are drawn to Palin in droves. I have never been so disappointed in my gender as now. They are not voting on issues or substance or experience. They are voting because she is a woman. What was all the fighting about women's equality? So many still can't even THINK!

All this plus mother of 5,

All this plus mother of 5, granny-to-be and lifetime member of the NRA... what a gal!!! One problem - she's JUST NOT QUALIFIED to be the VP, a leader in our national government and a representative to the world. She may be an experienced pol, but she and the women who vote for her are not smart enough to see that she's' being USED by the christian right. Simply a POLITICAL PAWN.

The Christians are the only

The Christians are the only religionists dedicated to forcing their beliefs onto others. They must be contained, and forced as necessary to mind their boundaries. I don't care what they envision as their "mission" -- their religious "freedom" ends at the point where everyone else's begins. Religious freedom is every American's civil and political right. But that's only the beginning with Sarah Palin and her ilk. She is also the worst kind of anti-intellectual -- she attributes all her ignorance to God's decisions, thereby relieving herself of the need to understand such issues as evolution, global warming, and the functions of stem cells. God knows better! We had better learn.

As a woman I am very afraid

As a woman I am very afraid that she will help over turn Roe vs Wade, someone should get hold of her and tell her to stop the pro life talk or she will loose the woman vote I am a Republican but can not vote for McCain and I would never vote for Sarah because of her Pro life stance

Undoubtedly John McCoot and

Undoubtedly John McCoot and Sarah Palin will be bad for our country--and undoubtedly they will be sworn in next January. The G.O.P.'s history of "winning" by any means will accomplish this--voters in black districts will be suppressed (again), Diebold voting machines will fudge the results (again), and if necessary the "Right"-leaning Supreme Court will tip the balance (again). It may be time to apply for Irish or Canadian or French citizenship, for the new, enlarged GITMO will not be large enough to hold all of us who disagree with the G.O.P.

I'm an atheist, but even if

I'm an atheist, but even if there were a God, it wouldn't help us if these right-wing/extremist religious zealots get at the levers of power. These folks are nuts and just as crazy as the Islamic extremists.

I don't see any difference

I don't see any difference between Christians voting their views and convictions in America than gays & liberals voting their views. Why would we see it any differently than you see it? You could just as easily say "these warriors of gay rights could find themselves only a heartbeat away from their long-held goal of turning America into an ultra-leftwing ... nation." Let's be "fair and balanced here."

Is America established as a

Is America established as a "Christian nation" by the Constitution? Not in my copy. The Founders, many of whom were Deists,Masons and Unitarians, went to great lengths to avoid the establishment of a state religion in America. Perhaps John McCain should be asked: "What clauses in your copy of the Constitution establish America as a "Christian nation"?

McCain reminds me of Dr.

McCain reminds me of Dr. Evil and Palin reminds me of a Fembot! What a combination. If women vote for this ticket, say goodbye to women's rights.

"Who mentioned her to

"Who mentioned her to McCain?" That'll be Joe LIEberman.

The news that Palin is a

The news that Palin is a right-wing fundamentalist Christian who would finish what George Bush has started is bad enough. The disrespectful title of the article is overkill. Just czu McCain's handlers are up to their usual dirty tricks doesn't mean the rest of us have to be.

The corporate media refuses

The corporate media refuses to ask the question "Is John McCain in the early stages of dementia?" The evidence is scary. Palin is being used as a distraction. If McCain wins this election, Sarah Palin likely WILL become President. This radical will attempt to impose her views on all Americans. Do women really want the GOVERNMENT to decide who they mate with? As a woman, I certainly don't want one of the violent rapists who inhabit our prisons to be in my family's genetic future. Under Republican rule, I will not have that choice.

John McCain has proved that

John McCain has proved that he is still the irresponsible unwilling to learn person who graduated 5th from the bottom of his naval academy class of 800 cadets by gambling the future of this great country by picking an unqualified woman with extreme right wing views which are not shared by the majority of Americans. It's frightening that the press are afraid of questioning McCain because of his Vietnam experience, and Palin because she's a woman! WHAT ABOUT THE ISSUES???

The Nazis believed that God

The Nazis believed that God was on their side from the beginning of World War II to the end. Evidently they were wrong. Right wing religious zealots like Sarah Palin have only slightly more moderate views than the Nazis. So why do they think that God is on their side? Invoking God in political debates is ridiculously arrogant. The God of my understanding resents such arrogant hypocrites. As do I.

We're a nation of puppets

We're a nation of puppets and we recognize a kindred spirit in Palin just as we recognized it in GWB. And a special thanks to all you Naderites for conspiring to hand Washington over to the puppets and their makers once again. Free thinkers? Don't make me laugh! Eight years of Bush and nobody's learned a damned thing.

Dear Anonymous (15:14) Your

Dear Anonymous (15:14) Your comments are so extreme I'm thinking you're just baiting Truthout readers for your amusement. If so, please, be my guest. But if not, let me say this: You're entitled to your beliefs as we all are. However, our country and its constitution were created by thinking people seeking freedom of thought and speech and to pursue happiness. While God-fearing for the most part, the founders were careful to extend these freedoms to all citizens. When reading your post, I was thinking what a good idea it was to separate churches from the state. Protect them all, but favor none. Let's hope it happens again, and soon, before lunatics ruin the best thing about this country we love.

There are plenty of reasons

There are plenty of reasons to oppose Palin without distorting her words. In fact the videotape shows that she urged churchgoers to pray for leaders to do God's will in Iraq, which is different from stating that what they are doing is God's will. She probably believes the latter, but that's not what she said in church. Anyone who prays might pray for our leaders to do God's will, whatever it may be. And anyone who reads The Ten Commandments or the New Testament knows that it isn't God's will that we invade countries that aren't a threat, nor that we slaughter thousands of innocents, as we have done in Iraq.

Give Governor Palin a chance

Give Governor Palin a chance to at least share her opinions in the next two months, then make a decision on her. The Obama worshippers haven't let her up for air with all the junk they invent and say is the truth about her. I think she is refreshing and typical of a real American family with good values. Old time proven values of when I grew up before this age of instant gratification. Let the special interests groups relax and realize nothing happens overnight. So give Palina chance to make us proud to be Americans again.

Better for the world and

Better for the world and it's youth that Palin were a "Condom-Mom."

Sarah Palin would teach our

Sarah Palin would teach our grandchildren in public schools that God created the world in 7 days and that everything around us is a product of some grand, intelligent design. I don't see just how that justifies shooting innocent animals from helicopters. Must be suggested in the Word of the Lord somewhere early in the book of Genesis, I guess. Actually the ugliness that surrounds us these days has all been conceived and created by mankind--and at least physical ugliness is exemplified, apparently, by the small community of Wasilla, Alaska, where Sarah Palin reigned as mayor and learned to denigrate such caring Liberals as Community Organizers. An Alaskan friend informs me that most people up that way refer to Wasilla--a fairly ugly strip mall of one main street--as "the buttcrack of Alaska." I guess this is where God chose to instill executive experience and Republican principles in someone he was grooming to lead the world he created. He appears to be designing away in something of a willy-nilly mood these recent years. The Republican principles certainly caught on well with Sarah the caribou slayer. A Liberal is one who basically believes in the dignity of each and every individual and strives toward achieving that. However, for decades Republicans (driven by paranoid greed where their money is concerned) have worked day and night to make Liberal a dirty word in the public mind. Palin now has began to do the same with Community Organizers, displaying right out of the gate that she can make a major contribution to Republican politics. As for "executive experience," including Palin's relatively short stint as governor of Alaska, consider that George Bush served as governor of the populous state of Texas--and look what we got when the country was duped into electing him president. Any damned fool can make rash "executive" decisions based on ego and fantasy. Character and intelligence are what we need in high office, not still more exemplifications of the Peter Principle such as Sarah Palin . . . or John Wayne wannabes such as John McCain. My way or the highway . . . Bush, McCain and Palin all have that in common. Dictators all.

You don't have to be

You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to solve the mystery. He's 72 and wants to be president before he dies. That leaves him a very narrow window of opportunity. Realizing that he couldn't have his "last wish"without nuts such as Dodson in his corner, McCain went way past cave in because negotiating would have required time that he believes is non-negotiable. If he dies in office, so what. He got his wish and the nation can clean up his mess. So why get upset? Are you going to deny an old man his last desire?

I think a lot of countries

I think a lot of countries will have long immigration waiting lines of American liberal ex-patriots! The neocons will be thrilled. As I watched the convention, I was taking notes. It was carefully scripted, and as we now know, most of the punch/applause lines were either outright lies (omissions) or simple opinions asserted as fact. Huckabee drew a clear line between military service and public benefit with his "parable" about the teacher and the school desks. He equated military servicemen with Jesus in his thinly veiled story. Then he told his lie about the number of voters Palin got in running for mayor being more than the number Biden got running for president of the United States with humor. Guiliani was especially vicious as he dismissed Obama's experience and lack of the mention of 911 during the Democratic convention. When Palin took the stage after much buildup, I was actually prepared to like her, much like I was charmed by Gidget as a young girl in the 50's (or was it the early 60s?). I reminded myself, that no matter how much I might like her personality, I must remember that I totally oppose the positions that she takes on important subjects. However, as she began to deliver her punch lines, most of which have subsequently been found to be false, with that slightly imperceptible sneer, an ugly chill went through me as I wrote "pit bull" in my notes. A few minutes later, she delivered the line about the hockey mom and the pit bull and I could only shake my head and laugh. The following night, I watched the speakers up to McCain, and the nasty, dark, scary tone was the same, with each speaker, and even a movie, devoted to evoking images of 911 and John McCain's war hero status, complaints about the "liberal" media and how "unprepared" Barack Obama and Joe Biden are to run the White House. Then it was John McCain’s time to speak. My first impression was that, unlike any of the previous speakers, McCain didn't have control of his audience. At first I got caught up in how sincere he sounded, what a maverick he was, how he will reach across the aisle...but how could that be? Every speaker leading up to him had a completely contrary message. Has he completely lost control of his party and the convention? Or is he just lying to appeal to the moderates and independents? Which one is it? I've heard subsequently from the news media and the blogs, Liebermann was actually McCain’s first choice for vice president, and that Sarah Palin was forced on him by the right wing of the party. I can't stand Liebermann either, but this shows me that McCain is not his own man, "maverick" or not. As Barack has been saying all along, McCain has voted with George Bush 90% of the time. How did he get the nomination anyway? Why did all the other candidates drop out so early in the primaries. What kind of back room deals were made for him to get the nomination and to get the others to drop out?

Regarding the comment that

Regarding the comment that "white women are drawn to Palin in droves"... according to a 9/9/08 CNN article, polls show that most of Palin's support is coming from *men*. Maybe McCain's pick wasn't so ridiculous after all; perhaps he realized that many other men would be blinded by a pretty face and a nice ass, just as he was, and they'd overlook her lack of qualifications, just as he did. Not saying *all* men are like that, but it only takes a handful, in a few swing states, and the election is his.

I strongly oppose Gov.

I strongly oppose Gov. Palin and almost everything that she stands for. However, I think the "Gidget" headline is sexist and dangerous. This is a completely serious person and anyone who thinks she is a little groupie who can be brushed off is going to be very, very sorry. Hearing her speak at the Republican Convention, I was frankly reminded of scenes in "Triumph des Willen."

GIVE OBAMA A CHANCE TO MAKE

GIVE OBAMA A CHANCE TO MAKE US PROUD AMERICANS AGAIN-TO 16:05 bob

Sarah Palin is dangerous for

Sarah Palin is dangerous for all of the above reasons and for many more. She is not only opposed to abortion, she is also opposed to contraception in any and all forms for anyone (even married couples). She favors the attaching of criminal penalties for those who prescribe, sell, purchase, posess and/or use any type of contraception. She also is opposed to any and all sex education. She will do everything in her power to set women back 2,000 years!

can someone please remind

can someone please remind these values voters that they had six years of a totally right wing executive, legislative and even judicial branch. And in the mean time, Roe V Wade was not overturned, gays are still getting married, and the Al Aqsa mosque was not destroyed to make way for the third temple. So what more do these guys want? How far to the right do we have to go before these guys get their dogmatic wet dream? And what do they hve to say about teh fact that the GOP threw them no bones in the six years they had a full court press in Washington?

Marcus Darnley is right. I

Marcus Darnley is right. I just spent an excruciating weekend watching the Palin church video so many times it made me nauseous (once was enough), and arguing the fine points of grammar, sentence structure, and vocal inflection with friends who were determined to prove me wrong. In the end they did. In this one instance she was literally asking people to pray that the war was "a task from God," not asserting that it was. Like Marcus, I don't have any doubt she believes God sent W out on a holy mission, but she didn't say it in that speech and it would be a mistake to dig our heels in on something that feeds into the perception we'll say anything to take her down. That's the way the Rove and Limbaugh Republicans work, and they are far better at it than we could ever be, even if we decided to stoop to their level. Not that we even need to. Palin's public record of mismanagement, the strong case we can make about the phoniness of her claim to be a reformer, and the overall influence of her religious fundamentalism on her public policy positions give us more than enough evidence of how unfit she is to be Vice President, let alone one McHeartbeat away from the Oval Office. She and McCain are wrong on the issues, and Obama and Biden need us to make that case out on the streets without giving the right wingers ammunition they can use against us.

"However absurd one finds

"However absurd one finds all this, Palin's religious convictions should normally remain her own private concern." If someone is religious, they make the world that much more dangerous for those of us that don't believe in the great cloud being. The religious start wars, kill doctors, and deny rights based on books written by men who lived in caves. Atheists? Not so much. Moderate and liberal religious types just give ammunition to the kooks. I wish people would grow up and accept responsibility for themselves and their fellow human beings.

** Welcome to “The

** Welcome to “The Handmaid's Tale”, America ** McCain is a dupe. Now he’s just along for a ride into the abyss of fundamentalist political ideology, dominionism. Palin comes "wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross." She is exactly the gender traitor dominionists need to create the xian Iran of their dreams, under xian imams, xian thugs, and their corporate overlords. Have you ever read or ever viewed The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood? A one sentence synopsis: “In a dystopicly polluted right-wing religious tyranny, a young woman is put in sexual slavery on account of her now rare fertility.” IMDb.com/title/tt0099731 Atwood depicts a society in which women have been stripped of all rights in a fragment of a failed America, known as Gilead, a country controlled by christian fundamentalist terrorists. Obama PACs should buy The Handmaid's Tale, novel and DVD, by the box load and hand copies to every media person they know. Get TV outlets to broadcast it. If necessary buy time to show The Handmaid’s Tale in critical markets. Palin is a puritanical atavism directly from the pages of Atwood’s dystopia. She comes from an all-to-possible future we must avert.

Last minute after-thought? I

Last minute after-thought? I wonder. The speed of Sarah Pallin's appearance on the scene reminds me of the overnight "drafting" of The Patriot Act.

Yet another reason to

Yet another reason to default McCain. But how many people are willing to think that through?

Electing Palin is the next

Electing Palin is the next step to making USA a proper Christian democracy. After that, all candidates to congress could be vetted for proper Christian belief and conduct by the mullahs (er...I mean conservative evangelical pastors). Then at long last, USA could become good friends with Iran because that is exactly how Iran runs their democracy.
