Is an imperial presidency destroying what America stands for? Bill Moyers sits down with history and international relations expert and former Army Col. Andrew J. Bacevich, who identifies three major problems facing our democracy - the crises of economy, government and militarism - and calls for a redefinition of the American way of life. "Because of this preoccupation with the presidency," says Bacevich, "the president has become what we have instead of genuine politics, instead of genuine democracy." Respected across the political spectrum, Bacevich has contributed to The Nation, The American Conservative and Foreign Affairs, among others. His latest book is "The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism."

Thank God for Bill Moyers, a worthy representative of our best selves.

Our beloved Nation of

Our beloved Nation of America has declined precipitously in the world's estimation, thanks to the empty-headed policies of the Chickenhawk Coalition under Bush. He is a coward, a bully and totally amoral, for all his much trumpeted 'religion' which is nothing more that self-worship. This cult of personality has done more to damage America than 9/11!! The pilgrims came here for religious freedom; Bush and his evil ilk would crush all religion and rule by fiat if they could. God help us, God deliver us from these WARMONGERS!!

I do have to take major

I do have to take major exception to some of the statements like "our beloved Nation of America". Are you kidding me? Who brought us Vietnam? Who brought us the contras in Nicaragua and death squads in El Salvador, and any number of other atrocities and anti-democratic barbarities? Our America! But beloved? By whom? Those short of perspective and weak of analysis. It sort of reminds me of former U.S. Marine intelligence officer Sc0tt Ritter who I heard in Spokane a few years ago bemoaning what has become of the CIA under this administration. What has become of the CIA under this administration? Oh, yes, our Beloved CIA and our Beloved America. Get a clue. The heart of the beast is a cold, hard, ruthless organ of destruction, blood thirsty and capable of much worse than we have seen of yet. The Clinton years and the Carter years and the Johnson years and the Kennedy years were not the years of a peace loving, justice seeking America. Nor will the years of the ruling class Obama be years of our beloved America. It does not exist.
