House chairman threatens to hold EPA officials in contempt of Congress over smog documents.
A House committee chairman threatened Friday to hold the head of the EPA and another top Bush administration official in contempt of Congress for not handing over documents about new smog requirements. Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman of California, chairman of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, said he'd hold a vote in his committee June 20 on a contempt resolution, if the officials don't give him what he want.
He made the threat in letters to EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson and Susan Dudley, a top official at the White House Office of Management and Budget.
Waxman and others have complained about evidence that the White House may have intervened with Environmental Protection Agency to get the agency to go with a less-stringent smog rule.
