Reuters is reporting that Senate Leader Steny Hoyer claims that House Democrats are very close to garnering the 218 votes needed to to pass healthcare reform. He said he expects the bill to pass by Saturday night but that it might take until early Sunday morning.
Still unresolved for some Democrats are the issues of abortion funding and the ability for illegal immigrants to access care.
Update: ....and maybe not.
The Associated Press further reports:
"House Democrats acknowledged they don't yet have the votes to pass a sweeping overhaul of the nation's health care system, and signaled they may push back the vote until Sunday or early next week."
