In the third attack in three days near Peshawar, Pakistan, 20 people were killed and 55 wounded in a car bombing this morning, according to The Associated Press.

The bombing occurred in a square in the city of Charsadda, a northwestern town.

Attacks by Taliban militants have intensified in this region since the Pakistani army began an offensive there on October 17, in an attempt to confront a rash of bombings in cities and towns.

Casualty numbers from today's bombing may continue to rise, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent.

"Police are trying to piece together what happened exactly, but there are fears that the casualties might be much higher than reported earlier," the correspondent said.
