White House Gate Crashers Probe May Become Criminal Investigation

Larry Margasak at The Associated Press reports:

The Secret Service may begin a criminal investigation against the Virginia couple who crashed a high-profile White House dinner, an agency spokesman said Friday.

Jim Mackin said the possible turn toward criminal charges is one reason the Secret Service has kept mum about what happened when Michaele and Tareq Salahi arrived at the security checkpoint Tuesday. They were not on the guest list for the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh....

Still unknown is the story that the uninvited guests spun to the security officers that persuaded them to allow the couple through. That likely would play a role in any criminal charges.

Turn the picture around.

Turn the picture around. This gate-crashing incident does not describe a lapse by the Secret Service. This incident may have served to warn Pres. Obama that the Secret Service can give anyone access to him -- particularly a person who means no good -- if he does not "play ball". Restated, the possibility that someone with influence over the President's Secret Service detail deliberately caused a lapse in security to scare the President into actions he would not do, but for the scare. This incident took place very close to the 46th anniversary of JFK's assassination. I see no coincidence in that. I do not expect any more than a slap on the wrist for this man and woman, and no serious inquiry into the decisions that led to their direct access to Pres. Obama.
