Matt Taibbi | Goldman Sachs Arms Itself Against Populist Uprising

Matt Taibbi, TrueSlant reports:

Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) — “I just wrote my first reference for a gun permit,” said a friend, who told me of swearing to the good character of a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. banker who applied to the local police for a permit to buy a pistol. The banker had told this friend of mine that senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank.

I’m reading this article on Goldman executives applying en masse for gun permits and I’m trying to decide exactly how funny it is on a scale of 1 to 10. Reader assistance here is definitely appreciated.

On the unfunny side: it’s never good when anyone buys guns, particularly not rich weenies with persecution complexes. Also, it might possibly be true that people have threatened Goldman bankers physically, which would really not be all that funny and would make me personally feel somewhat uncomfortable, although it would probably never be very high on the list of things I have to lose sleep over.

On the funny side, there are several things to consider. There’s the image of Goldman guys walking into Dean and DeLuca’s nervously grabbing at their holstered nines as they buy espresso and soy waffles. There’s the idea that some of these dorks might actually think that they’re going to forestall proletarian rebellion by keeping guns in their Hamptons beach houses. There’s even the impossible-to-resist image of a future accidental shooting of some innocent hot dog vendor on Park Avenue, followed by the inevitable p.r. response from Goldman in which the bank claims that the only thing its employees are guilty of is “being really good at shooting people.”

Matt has touched on

Matt has touched on something. The elites are paranoid, very nervous. Nothing funny about it, if a criminal is cornered and feels he has everything to lose he'll open fire.

Well at least they're

Well at least they're getting the message that they are lower than cesspool sludge in the public's view.

Maybe they're gonna shoot

Maybe they're gonna shoot themselves....

John dos Passos would have

John dos Passos would have had a field day with these jerks ...

tough! these bankers have

tough! these bankers have wreaked havoc on the world for years and their afraid for their safety? what about all the folks who have lost their homes pensions and lives due to these mfs malefeasance? its about time they felt some pressure due to their activities. there certainly isn't going to be and government activity on our behalf! and to the moderators here i doubt you will print this post.

Banksters with guns, don't

Banksters with guns, don't stand a chance against a mob of pissed /ripped off people.

This is something of the

This is something of the Midas touch. The bankers have all the gold, so much of it, that it has become useless to them as it wont stem the crowd by telling them that they can get rich also.

Bankers don't need guns.

Bankers don't need guns. They will always be in control of the masses. Let's move on.

Obama's failure to deal with

Obama's failure to deal with Wall Street arrogance may be bringing us closer to "pitchfork populism". The wall street gang (never stupid) have correctly read the desperation on Main St. We supported Obama because we honestly believed him when he said he was representing us. His was a populist election, not a Democratic victory. How quickly he forgot when he dumped his pre-election economic advisers and brought in the Goldman boys. "Hope" is gone if Obama can't or won't do all he can to correct the system. My friends and I are still willing to travel in mass to Washington if he'd just ask. But it's troubling he hasn't and many are reading that as he lied. So, if somebody pushed to the edge guns down a banker, the blame falls squarely on the White House. What's even sadder is many in this country are giving up on our system of Democracy. If Obama can be bought before the ink on the ballots is dry why should they believe ballots can fix the system. And, let's face it, the media in this country has taught many that when all else fails there's always the bullet.

As American society

As American society deteriorates, all Americans should have the right to carry concealed weapons! The Heller decision should be extended to the states, all of which except Illinois and Wisconsin, allow people to train and qualify for carry concealed permits! Sure, the bankers will want the right to carry firearms, but in an egalitarian society, the masses of pissed-off/ripped-off Americans will demand that right as well! Come the revolution, all of god's children will have guns, whether licensed or not!
