Obama Demands Freedom for Iran Protesters
Monday 28 December 2009
Kaneohe, Hawaii - US President Barack Obama on Monday strongly condemned Iran's crackdown on protesters and called on the Islamic regime to immediately free those "unjustly detained."
"The United States joins with the international community in strongly condemning the violent and unjust suppression of innocent Iranian citizens," Obama said in Hawaii where he is on vacation.
"We call for the immediate release of all who have been unjustly detained within Iran," Obama said.

How about freedom for U.S.

Tue, 12/29/2009 - 03:25 β Harold M (not verified)What hypocrisy! What arrogance Obama has to demand of one country that we do not honor ourselves. We have hundreds, perhaps thousands, of innocent people at prisons like Guantanamo and at many blacksites throughout the world who have been disappeared from the world without having any chance of due process. Why doesn't Obama condemn what the police did to protesters at his own Democratic National Convention and at the Republican National Convention in 2008? What about American citizens who have been tortured under the Bush administration and the Obama administration in the name of this phony war on terror for world empire?
Obama should be nominated

Tue, 12/29/2009 - 18:53 β S. Wolf Britain (not verified)I give a hearty second to that rousing cry of HYPOCRISY! In the U.S., we are supposed to live in a country---in fact, the ONLY country really---where, because of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, we are supposed to be able to protest to our hearts' contentment; and, as we only do so non-violently and peacefully, which the way that the vast majority of U.S. protesters do (though the corporate media of course makes it look otherwise) without ANY ARRESTS OR POLICE BRUTALITY WHATSOEVER. But federal and local police have been brutalizing and arresting peaceful and non-violent protesters in the U.S. for decades---actually, for over one-hundred years now---and often beating them within an inch of their lives; and, in many cases, beating them to death and murdering them, and getting away with it most of the time! And now it is constantly getting worse and worse; but Obama has done NOTHING, nor have any other Presidents before him, to stop it; in fact, on the contrary, they have encouraged it. Let's face it, though we have the trappings of "freedom" so-called, we live in a vicious police state where, more and more, we are expected to conform and "shut-up", and not make any waves or, as is happening on a greater and greater scale, we will be dealt with, and it will not be pretty. Unless of course the "waves" one makes are controlled opposition or don't make anyone in "power" feel threatened enough, at least yet. And most "Americans" are programmed to believe, and DO really believe, that we "should not protest", ever, unless the government does something particularly egregious to them; then they will, often too late, speak out against that, or those, government action(s). Just think, if most of us would protest, as we most certainly and/or definitely should be doing considering how bad things have gotten to be, the government would much more likely have to come around to restoring and protecting our Constitutional freedoms without fail, at least for a time; but, because enough of us don't protest, because we are washed-of-brains into believing that we "shouldn't" protest, and/or to be cowardly (and even believe cowardice is supposedly "okay"), things are getting worse and worse on a massive scale, and the U.S. is very quickly turning into a totalitarian, corporate-fascist police state. It long has been a police state, just not totalitarian like it is becoming now, at least on such a wide scale. God help us if MOST of us don't non-violently and peacefully rise up against all of this insanity that the corporate-fascists are now deluging us with.

Obama demands... Wow! I bet
Wed, 12/30/2009 - 10:31 β maria (not verified)Obama demands... Wow! I bet the Iranian mullahs are shaking in their robes right now. Scary and then some. Does this joker in the White House, and those in his administration, really think the world cares about his condemnations, his opinions, his ideas? In the last decade or so the US has become a wanna be 3rd world nation and its leaders almost comical figures. Neither Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and others paid much attention to Bush and he proved his willingness to back up his words with military action. Obama can't seem to make his mind up on anything from more, or less, troops in Afghanistan, when to leave Iraq, what to do with Chavez, or even pick a dog out. Mr. Wishy Washy who is great with words but completely lacking in real actions. Par for the course with liberals who excel in expressing their "feelings" but are total flops at translating them into real things of any lasting value. OK, back to the golf course in Hawaii while Rome burns. ps3 manette
