The man still has the warm

The man still has the warm sparkle of bright promise. This is good and hopeful, we need that now. And I love that he speaks of dramatic change. But is the change that is really needed addressed? We need to change more than just the set of rules, we need to change the whole game. Exploitation economics is a near future dinosaur. We need a support system that includes a healthy Earth and healthy children. We need to clean up the environment and clean house on the environmental offenders. Sacrifices are needed for change. Our high standards of comfort are unsustainable. More roads equal more pollution. President Obama says "buy American". While that's good, how about 'buy local"? If we don't want a socialist government, than we had better look out for each other instead of "look out" for each other. Our communities should get our first support. Our jobs and careers are there to support ourselves and our communities. What should be our true centers of focus. Expansion economics are another bone in our future dinosaur. National brands contribute greatly to the gulf between the casts. They grow while shedding employees. These people could easily be absorbed within the communities. If the communities manufacture these goods within. This will get our attention as to what the problems are with the land and water. The powers that be can no longer be. They've had they're run, they're job is done. It's time now for some serious folk.

Seems that only comments

Seems that only comments that adulate or question anything but a topic some with hope just goes away. What topic you ask, the one that I wrote in the comment section of this article, having to do with the crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush syndicate and whether or not Obama has the will to do the right thing or simply adjust his sight more toward the ground than to the sky where liberty and justice live. How dare the Washington Times censor my comment that wasn't offensive unless you happen to be part of the oligarchy that benefited from the murders of innocents and our own soldiers for profit, crimes against the constitution and the people of this country and the world. This is not the America I grew up in, perhaps we should rename it Austerica and begin practicing the Goose step. Hiel Quitter.

High standards of comfort

High standards of comfort are NOT unsustainable. There need not be any correlation between comfort and sustainability. If we developed comfort from a sustainable perspective, instead of from greed and capitalism, we wouldn't be where we are now. While it is true we cannot sustain high levels of resource consumption combined with environmental pollution, blanket statements - like "Our high standards of comfort are unsustainable" - not only miss the point, but they perpetuate false ideas that are harmful to actually solving the problem. You certainly won't convert any non-believers that way, and just may turn more off.

As I watch our new president

As I watch our new president talk about all the changes that his administration will make, I can't help but think how can any of this come to pass when the criminals that were in the White House will not be made accountable for their misdeeds. This only sets a precedent for anyone to do criminal acts while under the guise of leadership. It seems to me to be one of the first priorities of this administration to stop this kind of behavior of leaders of the "free" world. It is not only outrageous to let them go without a real trial for the criminal acts and lies that got us into this mess, but it is undemocratic and makes a sham of our constitution.

Citizens of the U.S. need a

Citizens of the U.S. need a sense of community, a sense of patriotism which includes joint sacrifice and working together. President Obama is both being honest and calling for this approach and attitude. Thee is so much to do and none of it really can be put off as it has for too many years. All of us citizens need to assist in any way we can to solve our country's problems. President Obama's critics, especially the wealthy ones, should put their money where their mouth is: invest in something; contribute money to essential non profit organizations attempting to assist the many people impacted by this painful economic downturn(and get a tax deduction at the same time); quit whining about paying some more taxes -- no one is suggesting you give up all your wealth, only a somewhat higher percentage of it similar to what you paid under your hero, President Reagan.

If the GOP fat cats will get

If the GOP fat cats will get off their duffs, open their eyes, and start preserving, protecting and defending, as they swore to do, the country can begin to recover. If their goal is to help Rush bring about the President's failure, they can simply keep doing what they are doing. And then we can move en masse to punish them. And punishment will include throwing them out of their offices, fining them for their willful destruction of the economy, the health care system, education, and the environment. Finally, we can post their pictures on billboard across the country, thanking them for the unemployment and fiscal distress of the country.

maybe we should all stop

maybe we should all stop pretending that "corporations are people" and see what happens with that.

Yes it is time to stop

Yes it is time to stop treating Corporations as people in this country. That is a bizarre practice to be sure and stopping it will make a huge difference, might even contribute greatly to recovering our economy. People run corporations, those people should be held responsible for the actions of the corporations. Not being able to hold them responsible has lead to many of the problem we have today. The CEO's of corporations have so much more free rein when they can hide behind the corporate paper.
