This a chance for a new beginning for food safety in the U.S. That should start with a complete review of the junk foods that are sold that are ruining the health of all who consume them. The empty calories of pop products, chips and high sugar drinks and candies that are the principle cause of diabetes and obesity. Products like aspartame and nutria sweet that are chemicals that can cause brain damage. The thrust of cleaning up the food problems needs to be done through prevention. That means preventing the problems before they happen, not after people have been made sick and their health is compromised. It also means that parents must accept the roles that they have as their children's primary health givers. Also, pharmaceutical drugs should not be used when prevention and common sense should be the first defense against illness. None of this is rocket science, it is just good health sense. It also means that everyone has an obligation to do their part to protect their own health. That is not a costly item, it will actually save money for both government and the population as a whole. Most importantly, good health is a choice that every person must make for themselves.

Well that is great, I just hope you, Mr. President have them look into all the toxic chemicals added to our food by these huge Corporations in the name of Taste and profits that are the main cause of the obesity and sickness in the population. Mainly, there are hidden toxic products like MSG(Mono sodium glutamate) that is so toxic it causes my wife to have seizures when she gets some of it in her food. There are artificial sweeteners that are toxic and cause addictions and are well known as neurotoxins that do permanent brain damage to the people that consume them Like Aspartame, and then there is HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) that is causing obesity and is also addictive and has been recently found to contain Mercury which is also toxic to the brain. I could go on and on about all the things the FDA has been lax on keeping the public safe from all the toxins that are fed to people in the name of profit for corporations. I hope your new appointees will thoroughly look into the mismanagement in the FDA and make those changes to protect the people of America. Americans are bombarded with genetically modified foods daily. We are sold meat and milk that has hormones and antibiotics added to it. Monsanto and other mega-conglomerates have unbelievable clout with the laws through lobbying and bribes to Congress. It is now a fact that a farmer who gets a Monsanto plant in his/her field--even if the seed was brought there by the wind or a bird--can be taken to court and sued to death by Monsanto for "stealing" their g-m plants. This is not logical nor just. Most farmers don't even want Monsanto's tricky seeds or products to begin with. Monarch butterflies fed pollen that was g-m _died_. Cotton from Monsanto killed the beneficial organisms in the earth. What kinds of poisons do these people have to force upon us before the law will actually serve justice and the common man instead of the giant corporations? And now Monsanto wants to "patent" seeds that have been handed down from generation to generation...in order to force farmers to pay each year for new seeds and to be unable to save seeds as they have done for thousands of years. The food industry is corrupted beyond belief. Heaven help us with all the foreign produce that is imported that we are forced to buy at the supermarket now. Buy local foods whenever possible, and reject imported food that won't reveal its history. I checked chips bags and found that nearly all of them contain MSG which is an additive to avoid.

Thank you fempatriot. I agree 100%. But it is lobbyists who make Monsanto,s AMA and the food industries dreams a reality. I wonder where they find such demonic people to even work for them? Monsanto (my saint, or Satan) would plan to even license human birth. Just as they tried with pigs. All of these food offenders should share a cell with the likes of AIG. We empowered president Obama to swat these flies, let's give him a big presidential size swatter. Take back America? From whom, big corporations I would assume?

I think you should title this "better food Standards" or perhaps "more effective food standards" Don't you think that tougher may not be the proper modifier?
