For over two decades, he’s subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy – give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else. In Washington, they call this the Ownership Society, but what it really means is – you’re on your own. Out of work? Tough luck. No health care? The market will fix it. Born into poverty? Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps – even if you don’t have boots. You’re on your own. Well it’s time for them to own their failure. It’s time for us to change America."

Great Oration

Great Oration requires a degree of intelligence. The ability to communicate is the initial phase to understanding and the process of reasoning. We do need an intelligent individual in the Oval Office. Obama has proven himself in this respect forcefully and gracefully. We desperately need redemption from the past 8 years of Bush & Co. and the past 40 years of neo-con dominated politics. If we can get a more liberal president and congress then we can perhaps realize some of the great social changes that once occurred with LBJ. That was when our federal government responded to the will of the people and gave us medicare, medicaid and the civil rights act. We need such another time desperately.

It was a great speech, the greatest among at least half a dozen great speeches during the Democratic Convention. I saw Hillary's as her best speech ever, and Bill's as another evidence of his ability to put complex ideas and facts in the language of the people. The probability is, however, that the fervent TV commentators will continue to do everything they can to obfuscate and raise inane questions about Obama and his campaign: "Can we really believe what Hillary and Bill said, or were they just saving face and trying to look loyal to the Democratic party?" I have heard that one already. Sigh!
