Interview With Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky

by: Maya Schenwar

Maya Schenwar, of Truthout: "Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky has had enough of the war in Iraq, and she's had enough of the military contractors that are making it possible. 'These are the guys who carry guns - I would call them mercenaries - who are engaged in inherently governmental activities,' she told me in a recent interview, noting that while contractors carry out many of the same functions as the military, they are held to much less stringent standards. 'One has to ask, 'Is it the policy of the United States of America that contractors can get away with murder?' And frankly, so far, it seems like the answer is 'yes.'"

This current form of the US

This current form of the US military isn't worth the money I spend on them, I've just fired them all and put thier leaders in jail for crimes to humanity and all of our sons, daughters and brothers and sisters in that army. I'm Talking about the Fed. taxes I've been paying which are criminally used to put Depleted Uranium into shells and armour for tanks etc.. Where is this atrocity in the news? Where it is has been squelched by major media, I guess it's not sexy news to admit your own government is evil in it's greed for oil. Ask yourself why there are oh so many casualties, it's because all the US victims of the US army's DU are hidden in that number.

In the video interview, I

In the video interview, I believe I heard Jan Schakowsky say the Iraq war according to Americans, in the beginning was worth it. I beg to differ. I don't know anyone that believes that this illegal war was what Americans wanted. I think Jan is mixed-up!

War? What war? Ohh.. she is

War? What war? Ohh.. she is talking about the occupation. Why doesn't she just say that? Framed as a war this conflict can, and will, continue indefinitely. Framed, correctly, as an occupation the only option is a successful withdraw.

Excellently said. The whole

Excellently said. The whole terrible adventure in Iraq has been inexplicably made possible by the malfunction of the United States Congress and the passivity of the American public. Both are responsible for the more than four thousand American soldiers killed, the thousands of crippled, and the hundreds of thousands Iraquis dead, plus more hundreds of thousands displaced. The United States has become the major rogue nation in the world.
